$200 Kawasaki Dirt Bike - Will It Go?

- Tripped and fell down the rabbit hole of buying more motorcycles. This is a 1992 Kawasaki KDX200 that hasn't been started in 10 years. Jen and I try to get it going.

makes me smile ear to ear seeing an old machine coming back to life. I love Kawasaki to
*Thanks a lot you spoiled it...*
Too*
Yeah smae
im a Honda guy, but i think Kawasaki is my second favorite, they look good and are good bikes, pops taught me Honda or nothin as a kid though. i think i would only ride Honda and Kawasaki
I wish i had someone this enthusiastic in my life that was always as happy about the stuff im happy about
He definitely lies about the price to his wife 😂
Yeah, but technically if the number you leave out is like just a zero off the end, it's still just a zero so technically that's nothing at all that's been omitted. Yes I have a terrible relationship.
I saw it on craigslist stupid
swhitehead15 & to us clearly
Title says $200 he says $100
@@betyoudidntknowyoucanuseem2716 The bike he pulled out of the truck he said was 200
Zane Bengochea you right @2:05
The kind of deals you hear about but never find congrats
Safety squints engaged, and I'm ready for the journey. Let's ride!
Some info on these old KDX's:
The #1 thing to check: The power valves in the top of the cylinder get carboned up and they break. They were made out
of aluminum. They will bounce around in the top end and destroy the motor.
You can clean them up or replace them with custom made steel ones. They are pricey though.
Check the rubber adapter between the motor and the carb. They develop cracks and can suck air/dirt.
Check the air filter box rubber between the carb and the air filter box. They develop cracks and can suck air/dirt.
The blue anodized forks were only used in '93 and '94 and were made by KYB. They were also used by some years of KX bikes.
You can take the rubber piece out of the top of the air box to get more air flow. You will have to rejet the carb though.
Make sure the needle that goes into the top of the carb is not bent at all.
Kawasaki discontinued most of the parts on these bikes so hoard the parts you have. You can find used parts on eBay.
Most guys run 40:1 in these bikes.
Thanks for the video!
Looks like Boyesen make reeds that fit the bike, It would probably be a good alternative to the aluminum reeds you mentioned.
Get boyensen power reeds.
He is talking power valves not reeds
Oops, your right.
Yea, I have those reeds for a 1994 KDX 200. Check the reeds too and make sure that they are not bent/messed up. I was talking about the power valves though.
Wow. Those Kawasaki engines are bulletproof!
I mean ur not gonna shoot it but okay
I stopped and liked the video when he said “these two strokes are known to have a ‘lean’ condition” lmaooo
Ja he's hilarious
Wow, your first ride on it looked like one of the most enjoyable rides ever
Your wife's commentary is pretty epic. Keep up the good work!
OMG she is savage.. where is my popcorn!?
Same
You're crazy, the dialog between these two make the videos. Keep up the good work!
Yea, your wife is pretty sharp, and pretty . Good catch!
She's funny, and so is he
Lmao "what wife could be mad about...?" "I can only think of one"
Yup and that 1 is mine😒
She was ironic
Karen
That's amazing. Love the dialogue between you two it's hilarious. Shows lots of love
Can't wait for the next video. After watching your generator video I'm hooked. Keep up the great work.
Same here!

Yeah, the generator videos got me as well, I have been watching a lot of your projects over the last couple of weeks, love your videos! Keep up the good work! Btw. what's your background? And what do you do when you don't rescue old motorbikes?
Gotta love the old two smokes!
ElementalMaker pp
dirtbikes tend to have alot of smoke when you first start them
two strokes *
Niclas Moritz "two smoke" is exactly what I meant to type
Damn that bike was emitting like a Volkswagen XD
SorensenGaming its from the oil in the cylinders lol. When I was working on my car last time I repaird my valve gaskett cover and replaced my plugs because I had oil pooling and I almost turned my workshop into a haunted house it was so smokey.
@@SpeedSeekerMoto You didnt get the joke ;) but never mind, its german sense of humor at its best :P
Yeah any old transporter😅
I just recently found your channel but its now one of my favorites to watch.. You guys seem like awesome people and you have really interesting content.. Keep up the great work!
This is the best mid life crisis youtube channel!
First reply 😂
So funny
I WILL NOT LIE. I AM SO JEALOUS! WHAT A FIND! It just goes to show its all about finding a deal. Those people must have been crazy to give away a running Kawi for 200! Good for you man!
Just keep your eyes peeled, I recently picked up a '65 Honda S90 for only $100 and I had it running without spending any money.
nemisis714 daaamn.
Well i guess they didn't know whether or not it would run cause they hadn't started it in a while maybe thats why it was cheap
I wish I could get a dirt bike for 200$ lol
You can that doesnt run what are you talking about
Jokey Jesus same
I just got mine kx 125 for 250€ and it runs well! 1999 one
bought a 1983 honda cr125r AND a parts bike for 250 canadian... it sat for 12 years. I got it going in an hour and a half. keep your eyes and ears open 24/7. some guy at work had it for a long time and I heard him say say cr and we chatted for about. picked up the bike the next weekend.
Hairy Sweetapples that second Kawasaki was a steal
i watched this years ago and got rather jealous, didnt end up following the build or the channel, now i stumbled on your channel again and realized id seen your stuff before. really enjoy the content and the humor.
What a bargain!! The kdx200 is a very capable enduro bike, they were very popular over here in the UK👍
Benspeed's Channel I wish there were more in the UK for sale. I remember back in the days there were not so many kdxs and a lot more kmxs I had 3 or 4 of them and Yamaha dts and there were mostly only 125s around not 200s, 220s, 250s ect. Because the kdxs are so rare here in the UK they won't be cheap to buy
I like to watch your vids for the entertainment value but more so, to hear your wife's commentary. She has an outstanding wit and sense of humor about her!!!!
Hands down the best video I've seen a couple made and funny. You guys made my day.
Only seen 5min of your videos and im hooked and subscribed, all of the bikes I have seen in your clips are the bikes I grew up drooling and wishing I could have owned, my first bike was a 85 kawasaki KD 80, that little red beast was a blast to ride as a kid and it never skipped a beat.
Keep up the great work brother love seeing the old bikes being revived.
You are my favorite personalities on youtube
Lol they are great. I just recently found this channel but in the short time I've been watching they've become 2 of my favorites as well
Same
You are very articulate compared to the usual motorbike mechanic. I like it man keep up the good work, enjoyed the vid
agreed
Compared to the usual motorcycle mechanic huh? In my 20s I was a tech at a Honda dealership and now I'm an engineer and of the guys I worked with one is head of the motorcycle sales division at Suzuki and all the others are doing very well. So the average motorcycle in my experience is very intelligent and successful I don't understand what you mean.
The average motorcycle is intelligent? Well, I mean, some new bikes have IMU's, so I guess that can be mistaken for _artifical_ intelligence, but still.
Joking. Yeah my perception of motorcycle mechanics is that they generally seem more intellectually awake than their car counterparts. Not sure why. Maybe I've just met the good ones.
Still watching the old videos over and over again till the new ones get posted. Love these guys. Way underrated
Love that genuine smile of pure hope turning into nothing but joy and awe! Good find, good work, good video xD Keep'm comin!
We didn't get to see your wife in the generator video, I'd say she is by far the best find 😃☺️😀 you have made.
Larry Hawkes yeahhhh
If you keep up these awesome videos. I for see 1 million subs in your future. Great job and btw I was just as excited when you started the bike as you probably were. Lol can't wait for your next video !!!! Your wife is a real keeper btw you guys make a great team !!! ;)
The two of you seem very genuine and have great chemistry and are fun to watch! Great channel. Keep up the great work!
I just love you guys, so real with one another. The best personality on youtube.
I'm seeing a new and improved 3dmachines
Motocat 96 he was like this, but he changed into worse..
3dmachines and dirt bikes don’t mix, he takes apart perfectly good running bikes to make them better then does something wrong and wonders why he’s having issues.
Motocat 96 no not at all
I can't wait to see 3dmachine trailer blow apart going down the highway I'm going to laugh
"sometimes I get so wrapped up and excited in the moment, I forget critical steps"...good thing you are not a heart surgeon etc. lol great vid, you guys are awesome together, keep the same/similar type of format going and you're onto a winner, don't let youtube fame go to your head, stay grounded :)
You are smart. I always learn something when i watch your channel. Thanks.
This is awesome! Keep up the great content and editing!!
200 bucks!? Someone from northern New York would ask 1500 for that thing even though it sat for 10 years.
so true.......so damn ture
Same with here in Canada.
Got that right dude im from northern ny and my buddy sold a junk one that some how ran for 700$ it was a complete disaster on 2 wheels
so in Latvija people sells lifan 150cc good looking dirtbike for 250 bucks
Ingusins 1 But those are complete trash from new
Its a sickness, you know. This buying stuff on craigslist and getting it running. We need a support group or something! Congrats on the find!
The banter is hilarious. The wrenching is awesome. More people need to see this!
You're just an incredibly genuine guy, with the heart of a kid. You are awesome my friend !!
Damn. Your soliloquy at the end brought a tear to my eye. Or it may have been the smoke. Great find tho!

Soliloquy is a funny word

*I think I can speak for everyone here when I say that I'd like to see a pan incorporated somehow into this bike*
I'll keep that in mind.
CR2504life I have a meeting today at home and then go
Nice work guy's! Love the Channel!
I enjoy the videos keep it up, nice to see that you have a supportive wife that supports you and is happy to see you happy doing your hobby, hats for to her. She's a keeper!
You are the coolest CZcamsr. Great videos. I found you last night and I'm binge watching your videos. Your inspiring. Keep up the good vids!
Hey, I'm not even mechanically inclined at all, and I randomly came across your channel and after seeing this video, and your enthusiasm and knowledge, as well as personality, its inspiring. Definitely subbing.
Hold onto your wife, shes a keeper
:D

Agreed! I love her personality.. Same goes for him though
Thats probably why she is his wife and not his gf
I love this guys videos!! So much fun to watch, keep it up bud
Great Video. I look foward to following the progress on this bike!!
Just finished watching the video I can't believe you snagged that for 200 bucks! What a steal!
love the charisma between you two great vid! i subbed
@Shadilay that too... Were you trying to spell check him or say charisma didnt fit?
I'm so happy to see this channel blow up this past month. You've been putting up quality content for years. You earned it, man and I look forward to your future episodes. Also, we all know you quit the shasta project. You don't fool me for a minute.
Cant believe i have gotten addicted to all your videos. Keep it up. Im going backwards im vodeos now.
awesome video!, I was also excited when I saw it turn on for the first time! :). looking forward for the next videos! :)
This video gave me hope for husbands who have wives who don't like how expensive dirt bikes can be. Definitely gonna show this video to my wife lol
Its all about including them in the activity. Its camping for the family to spend quality and bbqing, but its also going out to ride.
I was waiting for the part where she slips the kicker and takes a few peg teeth to the shin. Best way to learn boots and pants.
Aaron Anderson happens to everyone, give her a while and she will experience it
Was waiting for bike to fall on her first .... Glad it didn't.... not the best way to kick start a bike ....
I was worried too. Tennis shoes, shorts, trying to start it like it was a Roger DeCoster special... I have to start my old KTM on the left side with my right leg. Never in shorts & tennis shoes though
Aaron Anderson and it also helps to actually be on the bike
Happened to me when I was younger pop starting my RM125...Went riding then got my stiches
love how you went straight for the hill epic mate
Love ur videos there great from the UK.... Yey 1st comment
another great video glad you chose to do this as a couple she rounds you off and the two of you are great.
Man, that was really fun video! I was glued! Great stuff
I love watching these vids. Picked up a 200 craigslist buy the other week and it was running in no time after gathering some know how from you. Thanks for the info
This channel is a breath of fresh air subscribed and joined the notification squad!
8:25it looks like she farted😂😂😂
YES 😂😂
Hahaha i didnt notice that.. Good one lol
😂😂😂
😂😂👌👌
Made me laugh !
Stumbled onto your videos. Wife and I think they are amazing! Great banter back and forth. You two are just like us. I buy, repair and sell Polaris snowmobiles.
Thanks man for giving me the inspiration to not give up on something only because it looks old, everything can be repaired and refurbished if it's given enough parts and care, you might've just inspired me to go buy a cheap bike and just repair for way cheaper than just buying a new one, thank you and I want that bike now :)
Trevor from GTA?!?!
Nah this guy is wayyyy cooler
That is crazy cheap!
Editing my comment to add..
"That's INCREDIBLE!
I'm so happy for you!"
I long for the day I find a bargain like that!
Well done you, hope everything works out.
That was an excellent video! Your enthusiasm mixed with your intelligence and knowledge made this an enjoyable watch. Will be subscribing (and I hardly ever do that)!
this is one of the greatest videos I've watched in a while. if you didn't smile while watching this who even are you
I wonder why im feeling jealous
Because hes got a sweet dirt bike for cheap, and an awesome chick!
I'm totally jealous too
Bravo....Love the liquid cooled 2 strokes.
So glad i found this channel.. love your videos...
I don't usually like these videos but damn dude you're funny as hell I love the personality
SSSAAAAWWWEEEEEEEET! Congrats on a major score! For the other bike, you have a washing machine (meaning an electric motor) and I know you have some batteries laying around... I'm thinking an E-Bike!
Blakehx don't be gay
Keep up the good work bro. And GOD bless you all . Your wife brings a special touch to your videos
Love your channel. Besides the channel being so technically good it's binge worthy I find the repartee with Camera Girl so entertaining! You have given me the confidence and the knowledge to tackle my old snow blower that hasn't ran in over two years - and winter is coming!
Y'all are amazing, loving the vids. Great find, a kawi and a 2 smoke you can't beat it!
I feel like i need to check Craigslist for a cheap used 2 stroke dirtbike now.... lol
TommyGun921 People in my area want more for a beat to shit dirtbike than a running street legal motorcycle... The lowest dirtbike i seen was 2000 dollars so whoever selling it is definitely throwing alot of sedimental value into the price.
I’ve been searching up in nor cal, haven’t found a thing but Hopefully since the season is ending something nice will come up
shoopnooop same here but thats what happens when they heavily regulate motorcycle
The bad thing is here in texas it would be faster and cheaper just to buy the actual motorcycle and have it inspected and insured and plated and you're good. So as long as the title is clean and it runs good it would be pretty quick to get it done.
California Dual Sport veteran here. I'm assuming you're still in CA? Plating this bike will be pretty difficult. You will need to forge a sticker on the frame that says something like "This motorcycle meets all US emissions regulations for on-highway use". You can find pictures of a genuine one online. That gets you through the DMV inspection. You will also need to get a Brake and Light Inspection at a certified shop, where they check the remaining meat on your brake pads and all the turn signals, brake lights, and high and low beam headlights you have by now installed. This gets REALLY expensive so be sure you ask the DMV for all the fees upfront so you know what you're getting into.
Costs:
Dual sport light kit $200-500
Brake and Light inspection $80-120 (depending on the shop)
DMV retitling fees, registration, plate, etc $200-300
Forging that sticker ???
Back Registration fees ?????
Sometimes you get lucky and get someone who doesn't know what they're doing. I have done this with many bikes ( I flip bikes for a living), and there is always a way if you pay them a lot of money and keep bothering them relentlessly. DO NOT TELL THEM IT'S A TWO STROKE. Good luck!

You guys have a wonderful chemistry, nice to watch you guys videos i do have a 1998 kdx.
Another home run!!..your videos are awesome!!
It's like I tell folks, it's an art collection that you have no appreciation for. Once wife saw the profit of the crap I bring home it is ok. Like that ktm 550. 3 days, a scrub netted 1000$
Get a title, some blinkers and lights, and you can register with the DMV. Easier said than done. Good luck, friend!
T Davis it’s two stroke you can’t make it street legal
Darl Musselman You can make two-strokes street legal. So long as your state will allow you to make a 4 stroke legal, you can typicly make a 2 stroke legal. It's just a pain in the rear to carry around 2 stroke oil with you.
It's enduro. Why would you not be able to get it street legal? I understand all the proof of ownership and stuff like that. But if it's a big enough engine it dont matter if it's a 2 smoker
@@drumkid330 In Sweden we ride two strokes on the road all the time. 50cc which is classified as a moped for many reasons. And then 125s classified as "Lightweight Motorcycle".
I loved this video so much . I’ll be waiting for you next one
You and Jennifer have become my favorite motorhead vids. previously it was Mustie1. I like the interaction between you two, and the levity and sharp witt without the sexual banter...not that I'm a prude or anything. You do amaze viewers with the projects you get involved with...motorcycle transmissions... Now I'm looking for a fixerupper like this KDX200. Much lighter than my V Strom 650. Thank you for all you do~ both of you.
Let's binge watch this series from the start again!
Your wife's commentary :)
Just found your channel!! Awesome stuff, i grew up on a kx80 and worked up to a kx250 always wanted a kdx though. Great content and that wife is worth at least 2x her weight in gold and assorted precious stones!!! Quick witted and smoking hot to boot, it's the glasses!! You guys are like George and Gracie, truly amusing and genuine, i'm now definitely buying a tecate i recently found!!
This is what I love to see, an old dirt bike that only needs a pair of pliers and a makeshift jack stands to fix. Great video
"I can only think of one!" LOL
So, you're not worried about all that smoke? I know its a 2-stroke, and I know you put oil in the cylinder... but man... You could make ribs w/ that smoke.
VroodenTheGreat he may have added a little extra oil to the fuel as it hasn't ran in such a long time....just as a precaution for the first start-up. that's what I would do anyway ;)
I SAW him put oil in the cylinder. I know that would make it smoke, but after several minutes of him riding it, it was still smoking. He didn't mention adding oil to the fuel. Maybe he can clear that up for us. I just hope the head or the rings aren't bad.
VroodenTheGreat even if he has to put a new piston and rings in, that's still a cheap bike. only going to get expensive if he has to replate the cylinder! I would have said that the fuel has a little more oil than usual...but only he knows that👍
VroodenTheGreat Required to fill with oil gas blend for 2cy engines. Even chainsaws lol. In the video you can see the mixture he pours in is pretty dark.
-Slurmdaddy - that's why I said what I said! you can see the oil is darker than its meant to be. again....because the engine hasn't ran in 10years. just a precaution....it's what I would have done also!
Your videos are remarkably well shot. The sound and camera angels are excellent.
I also have a 93 KDX200! It looks great. Spoke skins, re-polished plastics, handguards. I love my kdx
Ah makes me miss me and my wife... Good video man.
lilwarthog where she at?
They are prone to having a leaned position (!) Good one, difficult to recognize the context for a foreigner ^^
This video is class...90's dirt bike..spewing awesome allover the place...that sound reminds me of my teens so much!...sweet
This guy knows his 2 strokes well. And he took good prep to not blow the motor and bring it back to life good video as well!
