We played this in High School. I love this arrangement. We scored a one with this song. I particularly like the sole because I challenged our trumpet section leader for it. circ. 1987 Wish I had the video they made of us at the Band Competition.
@Reece Sears Our 11th grade marching band performed this in the national marching contest and got 93.65 points (2nd place). It's all about getting the emotion right and do a lot of articulation training.
I’m playing this in jazz band and I’m the only one with the bass part but I’m playing it on bari sax right now because I’m just learning bass and it’s a lot of stress because I’m the only one who plays at times
i thought that too a few years ago but the band grade levels are not the same as school grades. grade 1 is easy, about equivalent to fifth grade in school, and grade 4 is an advanced late highschool/college level
@@muddymallow80 it more like a ballpark estimate of how many years you've played. (Grade 1= 1st year players, grade 2=2nd year, Grade 3 is 3rd year, and so on
You sure because if you check out the Three Rivers High School marching band they played this and I think they did a fucking fantastic job. But then again I might be bias because I'm apart of the band.

Would definitely need players with a strong jazz background and chops to really make this pop for marching band...
Resonant Totality played this in 8th grade. Wasn’t hard at all

This would make a great Pep tune, or like a post halftime performance :)
such a fun song for marching band !! played mellophone for this piece
First done by Weather Report, then the Manhattan Transfer. This song still strikes a chord decades later.
wait i'm a clarinet i've been wait to play this song FINALLLYYY
Jay Bocook, Will Rapp, & Paul Lavender made an even more interesting arrangement that has Optional Rhythm Section.
Hell yeah, covid show time!
RIP Jaco Pastorius
They didn’t make the bass the melody :(
Were doing this as part of our show for marching band next year
Espetacular birdland
this is the best pep band song ever

We played this at Crossmen DCI Camp this year :)
excelente👏👏👏
In my opinion would most definitely prefer this in jazz
there is a jazz version by the same arranger, however, Hal Leonard has no recordings of the piece.
birdland!!
Can't top the jazz. Still a fun piece
This should definitely be a Grade 3
:)

Playing this in jazz because my teacher apparently doesn't have the jazz arrangement.
Ending is kinda lame tho
This isn’t possible for tenor because of the baritone part
what do u mean
Baritone Treble Clef would work.
tri-toms? seriously?
doesn't fit as a matching band song only good for jazz
No. i think you need to focus on practicing clarinet.

we did this last year and its great for marching band
change up the drumline part and its all good
Just look up the Troy University Sound of the South 2018, and I think we can change your mind on that.
