    Now, it is a year later, and also I have my own Tikka T1X with the 20” barrel model. I did some transformations: the recoil pad, cheek riser, the grip angle vertical, and the forend slide on grip plus I reduced the trigger pull weight to 1.5 pounds. Some are saying “cheap Tikka rifle stocks”, but not so, the rifle stock is the same as my Tikka T3 in 300 WSM (15 years old) which is a very accurate rifle; three out-of-state hunts: mule deer, pronghorn (Montana), Texas hog hunting and a painted desert sheep, successful on all three hunts.
    Additionally: I mounted Vortex PST 5-25x, which was purchased a year before the buy.

    Sorry, I forgot to add my proof. Set your favorite action screw setting, then wait for a differing weather day, and use your torque wrench to LOOSEN the screws....you will go....hmmmm? :)

    Looks like your barrel is finally getting broken in. Very few fliers 👍🏽

    I’ve done some testing with rim thickness, no special high dollar gadgets required simply a spent .223/5.56 case and a pair of calipers is all that’s needed .22 round fits very precisely into the brass,

      I use a raven eye gauge with a digital dial indicator, sorting bulk ammo I find ranges in rim thickness from .0350 to .0450, with the most rims measuring .0410 to .0420 - this is probably where 90% of the typical rims measure on .22lr ammo

      Though I do have a rim thickness kit, this case usage is as good.

    I feel the thing about shooting 22lr is taking as many variables from the equation to promote the most accurate groups. Shooting good quality ammo, being aware of enviromentals, proper action screw torque and even sorting rim thickness usually on lesser quality ammo gives a shooter the confidence to shoot his or her best.

      I couldn't agree more. Kind of makes it fun and maybe frustrating at times to try and figure out. I would like to shoot long range someday and I believe some of the principles I learn here will help me down the road.

      @@AimSmallMissSmall_TV It really will help, I have honestly learned more shooting a 22lr 300-400 yards in the last two years vs the 40 previous years combined. Wind seems the biggest enemy when you stretch the yardage out. It tickles me when I pull out my 22 and ring the gong 10 for 10 times that my buddies are shooting centerfire at, if the wind is nice. I encourage you to stretch the legs on your 22, its a lot of fun

    Once you established your torque settings, I wonder if an "EC Tuner" V2 could shrink groups tighter? 🤔

    • @22lr_plinking
      @22lr_plinking Před rokem

      I’m on the fence about the EC tuner, I really want to give one a try but still not convinced it isn’t a gimmick lol. One guy made a comment it does work very well at a set yardage But doesn’t relate as you move out, he says if you say set perfect for 50 it has to be retuned to say 100 if true it would be useless to me ,

    • @AimSmallMissSmall_TV
      @AimSmallMissSmall_TV  Před rokem +1

      Maybe I can get them to send me a tuner for testing. My channel may not be big enough to get them to send me one for testing.

    Hi Brett, hope all is well with you and yours. I think your control should be with the action screws set to factory (44-45” pounds) with the ammunition you have decided the Tikka shoots best. For me I ask myself why have Tikka decided to set the torque at 45” pounds?? Is this some random number or a safety concern or could it be a design requirement?? I’ve watched this video 3 times now and if I’m honest there is pretty much nothing in the grouping, give or take a thou here or there, apart from the very loose setup when I thought the action might fall out of the stock😂 In it’s present form I recon this little Tikka is about at the top of her game, the rest is down to environmental conditions and how you feel on the day! All the very best from deepest Dorset England

      Your going to love this. I have two more video with the Tikka and adjusting the screws. In one of the videos I went to 50 In/Lbs. Maybe because I saw your comment suggesting 45" pounds. After all the testing I believe the rifle like 2.2nm or about 20" lbs. Hopefully I'll have the videos out for Saturday and Sunday.

    What is under your bipod ? Looks like you have a bit of vertical stringing...forearm flex ?

    • @wildnorthadventures
      @wildnorthadventures Před 10 měsíci

      @@AimSmallMissSmall_TVI think forearm flex is the fore end of the stock moving (usually from pushing forward (“loading up”) the bipod) and with that shim it would but a bit of pressure on the barrel thus the vertical stringing.
      I think that’s what he meant lol

    I don't know if different rim thickness will show up much in mostly factory rifles. It's my understanding that different rim thickness shows itself as different be seating depth. Which will affect accuracy if your rifle doesn't like rounds with say a thicker rim or an overlly thin rim.
    CentetX I've shot does not vary much. Ammo like CCI std velocity does vary a lot. The Eley match varies a good bit.
    The RWS Rifle match varies very little. My rifle loves it.
    I don't sort by rim thickness but I do sort by round weight.

    I tested sk pistol match and sk pistol match special. Sorted rim thickness and bullet weight 500 of each kind. Rim thickness didn't really make any difference in group size I felt. Also bullet weight didn't seem to make much difference either. I shot groups of 3 shot for each test. But I didn't do the action tighten the action screws test, so maybe I should of done that before the other tests . I have a cz at one rifle with 16 in barrel.
