EXCERPT FROM SCENE 1 {The Square}
The people dance and have fun at sunset, among them the poor poet, Gringoire. A charming gypsy, Esmeralda appears in the company of her friends. Gringoire admires and falls in love with her. In the midst of the general fun, Captain Phoebus appears. He asks everyone to leave: it’s late evening, it’s time to stop noisy fun. Charmed by the noble handsome officer, Esmeralda falls in love with him, and Phoebus gives her a scarf as a souvenir.

Didn’t look like the traditional Esmeralda dance at all. It was beautiful but I don’t think you could even call it a variation as it was so unlike the original. 😮
