- Giselle Bethea performs a variation from the ballet La Esmeralda at the YAGP New York Finals in 2013.
Gisele Bethea happens to be the youngest invitee to participate in the competition at the Moscow International Ballet Competition where she won a silver medal. She was a strong contestant against many in the World Ballet competition USA, and received a gold medal in the category of Junior Division at the 2014 USA IBC.
Every aspiring and star ballet dancer follows a path to their dream. Her arches are *gorgeous*. This variation is also not a common one at competitions which makes it all the better! (The judges are probably so tired of watching like 600 Kitri Act 3/Aurora Wedding/Black Swan variations lol)

She does it beautifully, but surely, you are not saying that a 13 year old in competition does it better than principal dancers at Bolshoi e.g. Osipova?
jewelmarkess you do have to admit that the variation was still very mature??? OF COURSE Natalia Osipova did better! Osipova is way more experienced and older than Gisele, so it’s ridiculous to compare the two. And what Scott Fitzgerald said was probably a hyperbole or exaggeration, he/she might not have meant literally Gisele’s is the best variation in the world. There’s always room for improvement. Or could you just please respect his/her opinion? Everyone’s opinion is different.

Giselle is the perfect example of a perfect ballerina! She has an amazing pointe and she is so dedicated to dance! I can watch her dance all day and not be bored. She just has the shimmer and sparkle that makes the whole audience fall silent! She also makes everything look so easy!
"she is so dedicated to dance" - until she got married her Mormon husband. She left ballet, it's not clear if she is coming back.

@T B - you can look at her Instagram, I look at it every now and then. It shows her dancing with a local "Dance and Cheer" company as a guest artist. She seems to still practicing, but not a member of any company. Nobody really knows if she is coming back.

We are so glad you came across this video - and yes, she was indeed only 13 at the time and such a talented young dancer. Gisele ended up going on to dance with ABT and has since retired to start a family and pursue teaching. @Nicole CHENG (08D) - not anymore. She got marred last year. Her contract wasn't renewed. She isn't dancing in any company now, maybe she'll come back.
