As a Spellbreaker main of many years I can tell you we've been desperate to have a utility boon for ages. The fact that Bladesworn, the Ooga-Booga Hit Things With a Big Sword spec gets alacrity when the spec with a load of meditation-themed skills doesn't is frustrating.

I think Spellbreaker class theme fits enough for it to even have the option to select with boon you want to provide (just like Chrono). Especially that berserker already provides quickness and bladesworn alac.
Yet, it provide nothing of the two :(
I'm not a warrior main but I agree with this sentiment. Spellbreaker should've got Alac instead of Bladesworn. It makes more sense and would probably have better support options.
Exactly, bladesworn should have been the big D dps spec and spb shouldve been the boonspec, it would be so cool to play as a healer too, which is pretty trash on bsw due to being locked in gunsaber half the time and not having weapon swap. I still miss the banner quick spb even with how scuffed it was
I love Spellbreaker. They need a serious rework to their utility skills in general. There is almost no space for their skills in any meta. This video highlights that. No Spellbreaker skills. Room for improvement.
I think it's pretty close to a universal opinion among warrior players and the warrior-curious that it would be better if spellbreaker had Alacrity instead of bladesworn. And that the majority of the spellbreaker utilities could use a rework.
I love Spellbreaker. It's exactly what Muk said: when you land your counters just right, it's a chef's kiss.
It's why my main/story character has been a Spellbreaker since I first tried it out. The full counter even in open world PvE just feels so impactful and satisfying when you time it correctly. Might not be the top DPS but it's relatively simple to play and rewards you for paying attention to the fight, especially against multiple mobs as FC is an AOE.
Wished Spellbreaker got alacrity instead of Bladesworn
So Muk, a few extra tips for Spellbreaker:
1 - Winds of Disenchantment works like no other boon rip in the game and so some groups will use it to skip stability pylon (and only do protection pylon) on Qadim 1 if they don't have high enough DPS to phase before it comes up or if they just want to be safe.
2 - The full melee is an issue sometimes, but assuming you're not on a CM encounter where standing in a danger puddle inflicts a damage debuff, you can absolutely just pop your heal skill and get a few more hits in on the boss. Depending on the encounter, it might last longer than the puddle. Dagger 2 and both Dagger and Hammer F1 are leaps, so they can help you back to the boss quickly, as can Bull's Charge. Hammer 3 also has a bit of range. Not much, but it does.
3 - Unfortunately, aftercast cancelling is a huge part of dealing with spellbreaker. It's a easy to pick up hard to master class, but it is also great fun, as is easily living through moments where your higher bursting but squishier friends did not.
Wow did not expect spellbreaker to be this good and fun to play. I only saw it as a pvp class until now.
Spellbreaker dps is the Black Dynamite response to "Parry this you filthy casual" with "Casually: I parry you".
muk, if you ever play more of this build (i doubt you will, i know your view of warr lol), it's helpful to know that full counter is technically not a block. it's like it's own unique thing. the tooltip says "absorb"
This is my main build, and I find it so fun. Feels simple to learn and yet can be very technical to squeeze that extra bit of dps out with animation cancels on some of the slower hammer skills. Glad you liked it on first impression!
warrior main with 2.7k hours of play here. played berserker for years, played bladesworn for around 2 years till i felt like i was working for high risk and mid rewards on the most recent patches and switched back to spellbreaker. gotta say it, it might be percieved as the newbie entry build for dpsing, but it is flowy and hella fun, but also easy to misshaps the perfect sequence. I do love the rotation version of snowcrows, as in basically you do f1 twice in every weapon with the most amount of usage of the high dmg value skills as possible. like winds>bullscharge daggerf1>weaponswap as the opening, then hammer2-f1-3-4-2 chains of auto attacks - 2-5-2 - f1 - 3 - weapon swap - daggerf1 - 4 -3 - 5 - bullscharge - 2 - auto attack - f1 - weapon swap. You basically entry a weapon rotation with f1 and leave It after you hit f1 a second time, except on Hammer you hit 2 before f1 because then u can use Hammer 2 atleast 3 times before swapping and its the heavy hitter skill u have. you can implement fullcounter as needed and swap bullscharge for break enchantments for more strips in situations like fractals. build only truly sucks in no cc fights and ranged fights, but they are so few you just accept the other dpsers to carry u a lil bit.
Yes this is one of if not the easiest builds to get 90% bench on, not sure how Muk only got 27k after a few hours of learning, the SC rotation is like 8 skills on either weapon set in a very intuitive order (essentially using them off CD).
Still dont get why Spellbreaker isnt one of the boon specs of the warrior class
ANet was just lazy because alac on Bladesworn is a lot easier to implement.
Funny thing... The ranged option is spear. 😂
Do remember that land spear is only available if you have Janthir Wilds, which will come up next month.
Finally we get spears for the sunspear spec!

I really wish Full Counter still did damage in WvW. Now it's basically just a defense measure.

I wish you would have mentioned the number of gap closers SB has. Dagger 2, F1, bulls charge, hammer F1. All of them help you get back to the boss when they move away and keep the dps up.
Not me bragging to the guild about my 700 defiance damage hammer skill... only to find out it's a bugged tooltip 😅
I always like having a range option, which means my spellbreaker carries a rifle along with axe/dagger, but I may give this build a try.
I tend to lean towards classes with a priority based rotation, but Hammer Spellbreaker has suuuch a satisfying perfectly looping rotation. It was my go-to when I was first learning more difficult raids because I could rely completely on muscle memory for the rotation and focus on mechanics.
Seriously, just such a good spec. I love hammer (so stompy), I love dagger/axe (especially the interrupt on dagger, hnnnng so good), and OOHHHH baby do I love Full Counter. And 100% agree it should have been a boon build. I just love the spec so much and don't care about the other warrior ones.

Spellbreaker is my main for the last year or so. I think it's easy to learn and intuitive to use in practice, and I also use the Banner instead of the Winds of Disenchantment. I would add that the build is fundamentally broken on bosses that count as structures, like the Shiverpeaks ice golem or Wyvern Patriarch. In those cases your CC-based effects just don't work; no damage boost, no stab, no extra adrenaline. It totally jacks up the build.
Hey Muk! I’d kill for video(s) from you focusing on Tanking in raids. You’ve touched on it in your “get to the point” series, but I think that tanking is still the role with the largest barrier to entry in raids.

This is an awesome class. first class i actually had really good dps in raids with. I need to play it more again
i wish spellbreaker could give quick or alac. i would LOVE to play it as a healer/tank. also i wish sword and shield were actually usable as a tank/healer.
People often sleep on this build but a warrior build that gets to bonk the ever-living snot out of things with a hammer? Sign me up!
I remember when this build broke thru a few years ago and I took it up and felt like an absolute god in open world. Full Counter lets you get away with all sorts of wild stuff..."OH NO AN AOE - Full Counter"
Even tho I've mostly played power Berserker the past couple of years, I do occasionally dust off the hammer on warrior to go bonk things.

The death of QuickBreaker is felt by me every god dam day.
I absolutely love Spellbreaker but I prefer playing DPS' that can provide one of the major boons (alac/quick). Spellbreaker has everything I love in a kit. Nice damage, self sustain, CC, and buttons that just feel good to press. Everything feels impactful and not *too* spammy or "pool noodle slappy". And due to low CDs(+Alac) you most likely have access to whatever you need when you need it.
When Spellbreaker lost Quickness though my playtime with it evaporated into 0. As did my Warrior's existence. Axe's Burst is just too powerful a skill and I tire of it when playing Power QuickZerker, not really a Condi fan so I don't dabble with it either. It feels like there's no variety. And Bladesworn is just not my cup of tea in a game like GW2. It works in FF14 with Black Mage finding the perfect places to stand for optimal damage. But the movement in GW2 is part of what I enjoy. So AlacSworn almost feels like an antithesis to that feeling.
Still hoping one of them loses their big boon and has it sent to Spellbreaker. I'd prefer Quickness back but if Bladesworn lost Alac that would probably be better. As Bladesworn is still a solid full focused DPS option that people would still play regardless.
Yeah warrior needs a big shakeup. Everything needs attention. Weapons, utilities, traitlines, meta boon access... everything. I would argue that it makes the most sense for spellbreaker to have alacrity and bladesworn to have quickness. Having quickness is like night and day for bladesworn. It's not a law of physics that there has to be a pure dps spec but if you subscribe to that idea then I'd say it should be berserker based on how these specs feel when played as healers.
I'm still holding out for confusion to get reworked and allowed to exist as a real condition, so that we can have a proper bonk stick hybrid build.
Spellbreaker my beloved. Played it religously when I first got to level 80 but it fell out of favor as I learned the boon meta and that Full Counter doesn't prevent agony in fractals.
My pet change for this build is replacing one of the signets with Stomp. The damage almost catches up due to triggering so many traits (I use it at the end of the Hammer auto chain) and as you're not using it immediately off-cooldown it also doubles as emergency CC/Stun Break/Stability/mobility.

I main warrior and this is the only elite spec I actually enjoy playing. Also amazing in open world with dual dagger camp and either staff or rifle as secondary depending on what I need more

I love playing on my spellbreaker. I normally use it in openworld though and I find I'm always yelling at my screen for the mobs to hit me when I have fullcounter up lol
yea the range issue is one of warriors main problems lol, the only viable thing is bow and thats condi only, maybe they'll buff spear to make it more viable :D
spellbreaker really is an easy-to-use very solid and sturdy build.
also, you took defiant stance as your heal which heals you for incoming damage. so you could've just stood in the aoe's of the giants on HT for a couple seconds while fully self-healing
in terms of utility, you can definitely swap at least the signet of might for a banner or more cc or whatever you want (technically swapping signet of fury is less dps loss, but you need to adjust the gear for crit chance)

very fair complaint that this build is full melee, but you can go hit the boss.
A huge other benefit to full counter is that it refreshes your burst. This means your loop can be F1 -> FC -> F1, loop, F1 -> FC -> F1, weapon swap. hammer F1 doesn't do much damage but is good CC. Dagger F1 is one of your best skills and should be hitting for 40k.
One of the big niches spellbreakers have is on Q1, having a spellbreaker in your party means you can skip having to kill the stability pyre and just use SpB's bubble to delete qadim's stab when you need to CC him, saves a bit of time and makes organizing the group easier since you don't have to split your group or bring 2 portals.
Also, two things worth mentioning for SpB: 1, every time you cc an enemy you delete 1 boon off them. 2, the bubble elite skill not only is a lightning field it also removes a boon every second and has the unique effect of reducing incoming boon duration (in pve) to 0% meaning enemies inside it CANNOT gain boons by any source for the duration of the bubble.
Our static uses spb as q1 kite as well so we don't need a deadeye. It takes practice but it can be done.
@@helebarda344 Nothing wrong with doing a few laps around Qadim. It's honestly a relief when I see a decently tanky character doing that role so that slow cc doesn't kill the run.

I run a zerker with axe/axe longbow; so I can go ham in melee, but still hit long range if needed.
Hi, spellbreaker is one of my favorite dps builds. Easy rotaion, lots of stabi and and the opportunity to revive half the team. The rotation mukluk showed in the video is not correct and kinda messi. If the presses the buttons in the correct order he would ez get 30k+ (i think 33k or something would be reasonable) dmg. Its not a fast or complicated rotation. But im happy that he tried it :)
been playing this for years, most fun warr build out there. Shame it doesn't bring anything tho
SpB is my fave warrior spec, and I really wish ANet would give it more love for PvE content. I honestly feel that alac should been given to SpB and not BSwn
Glad to see that most people agrees that spb should've get the alac and not bladesworn, and could've also been a good excuse to overhaul some traits and the meditation skills that no one uses, maybe except the elite, but meh it's not really relevant, not in pve, even less in pvp and it was hard nerfed in wvw
And the healing skill... remove your own boons, who even had that terrible idea?

You missing the point of 10% dps increase from the Bull's Charge that trigger the trait Peak Performance, actually you can replace Mending for heal + also trigger the Peak Performance to prolong the +10%, which might bring you to 40k.
Anet have to force unrelated "Physical" to mending in order to get some buff going for warrior, sad. XD

Its from the aerodrome it refreshes all of your skills :D
+1 what the others said. It is a button for the testing room that resets all your cooldowns so you don't have to wait on them.

I have no idea how warrior has three specs, two of which are themed around hitting things really hard and one is themed around magic, two of which can do utility support, one of which can only do dps, its the magic one.
Like how do you have less support than a spec named berserker which is also now the healer ????
Berserker needs a rework, spamming f1 is just not fun at all. It also needs an alternative condi build.
Warrior needs another condi mainhand weapon. There's potential for a hybrid build with the swords and torch (which has pretty good power scaling), but the bow is just too condi focused to make it work at the moment.

Is spellbreaker staff a thing?
It is in WvW/PvP as boonstrip is generally great versus players. Having the healer grant Quickness/Alacrity is a bit too important in PvE so the only real use case is encounter specific roles.
as a spellbreaker main I have to say this is rly openworld begginer build...In pvp or wvw is dagger unplayeble, hammer is to slow and can get counter by stability easily... Sad that arenanet is shitting on wariior so badly... I was hoping for spear, that will be something new and good, but spear looks like shit from all spears classes ...
