Ren is independent .If you ever get a copyright strike on any of Ren's videos, dispute it. Ren has told his distributor to cancel the strike. Then you can monetize it. It's Ren's way of giving back to all the reactors that are promoting his music.

Until we just can't stand the pain anymore. Curing mental health is all ABOUT self knowledge. "Mental health" doesn't affect you, or me, it is US. Just as common as a dental cleaning. It is maintenance of the human soul.

Hi guys, REN fan from Melbourne here. Ren loves it when people react to his videos and doesn’t do copyright strikes; you don’t need to pause any of his videos. I first caught this on another reaction channel on 3 Jan (I just looked it up), and immediately following that viewing, I went to the original video link to sub to Ren and read his story. About a week prior to the launch of "Hi Ren", he posted a video to represent the "before" to the "after" that is this piece of art. After watching the manic Ren, then seeing this again, I appreciated more how this is meant to inform and inspire. The metaphors of the pendulum and the dance during the closing moments are meant to show how folks need to maintain the balance between raw emotion (evil, as many describe it) and logical intellect (good) as he has during his years of dealing with his own issues. As we are human, there is dark and light in all of us. It is our burden to weigh down the pendulum unlike the angels and demons who have it easy. It is also our duty to understand that other people sometimes encounter difficulty with keeping emotions in check with coherent thought, and not to ostracize them .
Only.... MGK is a made "artist". (Ask Eminem) This gentleman oozes art by just breathing.

Great reaction. “Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar since December; it went viral and has garnered more than 4 million views since its debut, but he has been creating great music for more than ten years. Ren’s music videos are often recorded live in a single take (although not necessarily the first take). His release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." Many of his songs resonate with people because he addresses struggles that many others face every day.
Ren plays multiple instruments (acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, piano, drums), has impressive vocals, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. He is considered by many a modern bard. His trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet" is haunting and has an unforeseen conclusion. It needs to be watched in the order given, as this is the flow of the storyline. It is another example of Ren’s genius and a master’s class in storytelling. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation, although it is less of a personal song than it is an indictment of greed and the resulting injustices in this world.

I love how everyone (including myself) hears the oohs at the beginning and think okay that’s different and a little strange, at the end of the track when he does the oohs it’s like okay I get it

Ren is from Wales. When he was 17, he was busking in London and someone from Sony saw him and he was signed to a contract. Then he was misdiagnosed with Schizophrenia and was dropped by Sony. 10 years later we find out he had Lyme Disease, not Schizophrenia. I can't even imagine how taking medication for Schizophrenia would screw up your mind and body. Also, this video was recorded live. Check out his busking videos.
No, the monologue at the end was for you the audience. he puts his guitar down, and breaks down for the (second time) the fourth wall. He wants you to know his situation to bring awareness. I know it was eye opening for me. What he said about the pendulum swing was both sad and hopeful at the same time, if you know what I mean. Sad because it will be with you forever and hopeful because it can get easer.
I came across Ren about 3 weeks ago. I've become obsessed with his music. Every song is a performance. A work of art on its own.

He's very eclectic with so many songs being so different. He does a lot of them like this one, live in one take. Though it may take many to get just right. This was like the 4th take I believe. Need to check out his back story and why his music is reaching thru so many people of different ages. Check out Chalk Outlines Live with Chinchilla. Just the 2 of them and a guitar. Also if you get hit with a block dispute it and his team will make sure it goes thru. He's big on reactors and actually tries to watch as many as he can. I just recently discovered Ren and this song specifically is very relatable for me, dealing with severe anxiety/panic attacks/OCD/compulsive overthinking/analyzing. Listening to him and NF helps me in ways that I am so thankful for. Battling good vs evil is how I best describe my mind. Fear, pain, overthinking, self doubt, self hate...my burdens I carry on a daily basis. It's not something I would never wish on anyone, not even an enemy if I had one. The emptiness and deep fear in the pit of your stomach, tightness of your chest, your heart palpatating into your throat, your heart feeling like it's going to come out of your chest, the scary thoughts that run through your mind that just keeps the anxiety reaching high levels into a panic attack. Your mind tells you the negative wicked things, but you TRY to fight back with positive thoughts. It all subsides...until the next time. It sucks!!!
Definitely not good feelings and I’m sorry you’re battling with them. Ren doing what he does, really makes it relatable, which I think is going to make a big difference in the world.

You mentioned the 'rastafarian' sound to his voice. He has videos with his former band The Big Push that embrace a fully ska/reggae vibe (I shot the Sherriff specifically). They're not the deep psychological dives like this, but are a ton of fun. They also display his guitar chops in a different light.

It's not just about mental illness. It's the constant battle within between good & evil, confidence & doubt, hope & hopelessness, love & hate. It's SO much bigger than just mental illness, it's everyone.

For young healthy people you were able to go deeper into the meaning.
Being diagnosed with Primary Progressive MS at 61, I can also relate to this in a much deeper way. The pendulum for me swings hour to hour with my physical limitations.
I'm sure he goes through the same thing with Lyme.
Both diseases also lead to mental issues dealing with these limitations
I cant imagine having to suffer with Lyme disease at such a young age. Autoimmune problems rob you of so much of your life and with invisible illnesses such as Lyme and MS you can look normal so its hard for to people understand the struggle. He is a huge inspiration.
I have taught myself guitar to help deal with the my physical struggles and I really enjoy it.
Creativity is a great way to deal with these issues and highly recommend it.
Also being a Industrial designer have a been working on products to assist handicap people with their mobility issues which brings a new positive relevance to my life.
Everything happens for a reason and Ren has proven that to us with this beautiful artistic piece.
That's only because "artists" now days put out a 1m 20s "song" and their whole album is the length of 1 led zeppelin song 🤷♂️🤣 so the new gen can't fathom a song can be entertaining if it's longer than 4 minutes, but true art rarely is performed in a 2 min song.
So sorry to hear about your struggles, I’m glad you are finding ways to get through them, same as with him ♥️ As an artist my self (not musically), I strongly believe creativity is key for success in a lot of different aspects. Wow that was really cool.
We all have that discussion. And we will KEEP having the debate for our entire lives. THAT is the human condition. Those two sides are in everyone, and conflict....or cooperate. You can't get RID of that voice as it is part of you. You need to learn to live as a referee between the two, and understand...that is life. Not a "weird" thing that happens to some people. This is a human condition just like he says at the end, not just about mental illness. Everyone struggles with doubt, but with most people it is manageable, then when it is not manageable it becomes an illness. But it is a human condition! Everyone can relate to this in some way to some degree.

I have watched this enough times that I have it pretty much memorized and I go around singing this to myself when I'm walking my dog. I can't get away from his voice in HIS head!
I've heard reactions from musicians, pastors, cinematographers, psychologists and psychiatrists and several other experts in other fields and it's been very educational, but I prefer an undirected candid reaction not limited to a single aspect of the whole. This performance is deep on so many levels. It clearly involves the subject of mental health and wellness and balance, but it speaks to the human condition far beyond that too. Plainly put, it is what it is, profound performance art masterfully constructed to be experienced subjectively. Short version... Everyone sees what they see. It's really fascinating.
