- Wigston Fire and Rescue Station was built in the 1950’s. The station is typical of its kind with its curving roof, jettied first floor and flat-roofed flanking appliance bays. More than 40 operational and three non-operational personnel are based at Wigston Fire and Rescue Station providing an emergency response service 24/7 to the local area. Typically Wigston Fire and Rescue Station attends a large variety of calls due to its location on the outskirts of the city and its close proximity to the more rural south east of the county. As a station, our crews not only attend emergencies but also carry out a great deal of work in the community, whether it be testing the fire hydrant at the end of your street, giving fire safety advise to your children at school or attending various community events and businesses in the Oadby and Wigston area. Occasionally, when required, our crews are requested to assist other agencies such as the police, ambulance and the RSPCA. Large incidents are not so common however, the crews at Wigston will be mobilised to assist, particularly as the station has a Command Support Vehicle based there. This appliance is used to help manage the larger or more complex incidents where many different resources are in use.

This was great from the whole team. Rarely seen attitude today from our public services. Manager allowed the younger guy to engage. He was up for it and engaged. Reminded me of the late 1980s, early 1990s when I took my son to a fire station at the time.

Just like AY. That's how I remember Firefighters. Good on ye👋👋👋, it's a genuine dangerous job. If I had a fire, I'd want that lad who gave you a tour to turn up. He just gives off confidence, competence and ability. Station was spotless, firefighters were well turned out. Makes you proud.

This is a wonderful interaction! But the fan to blow out the smoke!??? I thought oxygen was one of the things on the fire triangle? But what do i know lol... Happy people, just doing their jobs... Well done men and women of the Fire Service... Bravo.
Your not wrong stating oxygen is one of the elements of fire 🔥 but the turbo fan would only be used when a fire has been extinguished or when they are sure that the fire is enclosed in a compartment to get rid of all those unburnt gases so to allow better survivable conditions or search visibility for firefighters 👌
Smoke - ie fire gases are flammable and explosive. Backdrafts have caused injuries and deaths when windows fail etc. so for many years, tactical ventilation has been an option. If you can vent the dangerous gases, it makes it safer for firefighters and conditions better for casualties. They can be used during the fire or post fire. Just need to know location of fire, inlet and outlet and flow path

Class one fire service switched on 24 hrs 365, even santa visits Wigston and the out lying villages.
The community keeps growing and their workload grows but they never complain.

Yeh our new Scanias look even cleaner but wigston is yet to receive one should be the next batch before we start moving onto on call stations

I'm certain I've been in fire trucks and stations 2 or 3 times as a kid at least, however I don't remember where and when exactly.
I'm pretty sure that Odsal Fire Station was one of them though, and I'm fairly sure that Bradford Bulls players were there too (unless I'm just mixing up my experience, with what Odsal Fire Station has done with open days in later years).

Hey im a fire enthusiast from Leicestershire wigston is crewed by wholetime and on call so FES31p1 is the first out appliance wholetime and FES31p2 is the second out appliance on call and also the Command support unit is on call also we have 2 in the county the other is based at shepshed station that has FES28p2 and FES28c1 which both are on call most of Leicestershire have new pumps just a few wholetime stations without them and after the next batch of wholetime that includes wigston it will be on call stations that get new ones
