I attended the Tulane-Notre Dame game at old Tulane Stadium in October 1969. I was in graduate school at Tulane at the time. Notre Dame football had always been a sentimental favorite in my family, even though none of us had attended the university. I decided to watch the game from the visitor's side because ... well, I figured it might be a once in a lifetime opportunity. I'll soon be 75, and it's turned out that I was right about that. I sat behind Ara Parseghian, down at the field on the second row. Seats were available in the bleachers because not many Notre Dame students had made the trip from South Bend. So it turned out to be a night to remember, and I was glad that Notre Dame won. But of course the outcome of the game wasn't important to me. It was seeing Notre Dame and Ara Parseghian.
I'm a ND grad and attended games my whole life. I was at the USC game as a kid when Dan Devine broke out the green jerseys. I have followed the band through campus to the stadium so many times. Lou Holtz took over my sophomore year and we won the National Championship my senior year. I dated 2 football players, who both went to the NFL (one has a Super Bowl ring!) I have seen Irish Guard guys get sick in the middle of the field and keep on trucking. LOL. The atmosphere was so fun, you can see how the fans get so into it and I love that it was also such a patriotic place. Oh, how I miss those days. I haven't been to a game in a few years. As it says on the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, "GOD COUNTRY NOTRE DAME." Go Irish!
Bring this type of show to the Super Bowl half time and get rid of all the non-talented "stars".... have a "Band Off" contest and the winner gets to entertain during the half time at the SB.
