- Unboxing the Canon Speedlite El-5. During purchase it never occurred to me that the charger needed to be purchased separately so it was quite a shock to find none were included. I knew it was a special battery so how was I going to charge the Speedlite. I envisaged that having spent a lot of money I had a flashgun I couldn’t use. Luckily, in the past I purchased an EOS R and its charger was suitable.
Video also features the RODE Wireless go 2 microphones. The original set had developed a fault which I only noticed a week before end of warranty. RODE service was excellent, not only did they replace the entire set but also extended the warranty for another year. Well done RODE
I have order one Speedlite EL-5 plus extra battery plus dual USB charger that I can charge 2 battery same time with my Power Bank!
They should make it clear that the charger isn't included. I do think it's wise of them not to include chargers with the light as it just raises the price for those who may already have one and adding it to the package would simply be a waste to those with one, a bit like the tens of phone chargers we all have lying around the house.
Some don't send the chargers because it's the same as old chargers
With anything you purchase for the first time, a good rule of thumb is to have a quick check of ‘what’s in the box’. Most reputable brands provide this information.
Good advice! Think I was blinded by loyalty to Canon. Over many years i've owned multiple Canon cameras, currently R3, each with Canon specific battery and charger. On this occasion I was aware the flashgun had a Canon specific battery so an assumption was made that a charger would be included.
Fair enough. I agree it would be better if they spelled it out in bigger writing for the consumer.
My shock was that Amazon sent my one with an Australian warranty card. (I’m in the US.)
Returned it the same day.
And then realized, “what was I thinking?” And went to my local dealer and got an EL-100 which is fine for my needs (with a USA warranty card - I checked before I put the money down.)
i think their advertising stated that the charger is the same as the one for the LP-E6NH batteries. might need to fact check me on that though...
It is the same and works fine. To keep the 399.00 price point Canon had to go cheap on construction, materials, and accessories (aka: none) It is, however, a good, fast recycling flash. I have two which I trigger wirelessly and slowly replacing my 600EXII's. Still have occasional wireless dropout issues, but that is a 2.4GhZ spectrum issue. Will be glad to get rid of all my AA batteries.
@@shootloadrepeat have you ever used the godox v860iii or tt685iis? if you have, were they any worse or better than the canon flashes?
The Chances of having a charger for this flash battery is VERY high. If anyone is buying this model of flash, they are most likely using a camera that uses the LP-E6 battery/charger. Since this flash battery just works on those same camera battery chargers. So it makes sense Canon doesnt include it. However.. if it was $20 more for just the charger on top of the price. Id be happy with that haha.
This is video is not unboxing it’s a drama 😂
No flash diffuser cap?? :(
This flash can only be used on certain Canon R type cameras. So any camera that can use this flash, came supplied with a charger that will recharge both your camera battery and your flash battery. Another charger included with the flash would unnecessarily add to the cost.
Not the R8 or the R50 though.
I don't like your idea with the two microphones on the left and right, the sound keeps shifting from right to left depending on how you turn your head. If you buy a Canon flash, it's probably for a Canon camera so you should already have a charger. I think it's ok that only the battery is supplied.
Hi Thanks for the info on audio, will stick to mono in future. My current camera is a Canon R3, its charger won't accept the EL-5 battery. I don't beleieve an adapter plate is available.
when will the charger be unboxed?
Not that I’m defending Canon in not including a charger with the EL 5 but don’t you already have some chargers for your cameras that would actually work with it? Which has to be the newer camera bodies with the smart flash connection.
Although my current camera is R3, i do also possess an R. Thankfully that charger works as the flashgun charger was out of stock at the time of purchase.
Its likely stated in the paperwork he and just about every guy does is throw it out without giving it any thought.
You 1st time buy canon flash?
Cool video. Where did you buy your EL-5?
