That beautiful big calf should rightfully be named Little Joe!
The Cree told me the Blackfoot got their names because their feet were black from walking through the ashes of the grass fires.
I heard the same- from Blackfoot kids I was friends with in school- they were known for running through grass fires
Great idea. Where is Dunbar? Haven't seen him in a long time. He's my favorite.
He's up at the barn getting fat
Last he showed, Dunbar was up by the barn putting some weight back on.
Haha
Dunbar has his own group of ladies he’s chilling out with! He’s fat and happy!
Outsmart those kids by goodies for their bellies. Smart ranchin' Kemosabe. Not enough people realize how good for the land those small burns are.
Who’s a clever bison rancher, eh? Dusty is a clever bison rancher!
Happy Trails to all at to the Ponderosa and the OG!!!
What an awesome wife.
I love how the herd identifies with you so much. They come running whenever they see you.
Here in Kansas we try to burn the old grass off in the flint hills every year to help the new grass grow !
We do here in MN, too
An added benefit of a burn, is that white ash worked into the bison's (or other livestock's) coats by rolling, kills fleas, ticks and lice. Charcol when chewed is good for all sorts of things too. Firing the land kills all kinds of bacteria and parasites and their eggs, and until the ash disperses more, prevents future infestation in the burned areas. We burned yearly and had amazing lush natural grasses, few weeds, and low parasite pressure.
I can't agree enough especially as to lowering the parasite and tick count, both of which tend to get higher the drier wet seasons tend to be, even when not actually in a drought. The fact that drought has been an issue for many of the seasons I have watched this channel could explain why so many cows in the herd seemed to be showing impact of a high parasite load so early this year.
I hope you all ask a prayer for safety , daily. Working around all of those gates, etc.
Awesome, I love watching your videos. Hello Dusty and Marisa
You’re doing a great job ❤ thanks for letting us come along for the ride/…..awesome burn job it will all grow in nicely now…..
I love black berries but NOT in my pasture. The bushes had to go. Looks like you gained at least an acre of pasture (hard to tell on video). You are doing a wonderful job maintaining you land!
Thank you!
Love that we can still learn so much today about Native life experiences and lessons ❤
Loving those calfs, sure getting big. Burns seem scary, but you all did a fantastic job ❤
The bison are so funny the way they congregate around your activity! Have to be part of the action.
I think the bison suffer from FOMO, lol
Looks so good and the Bison are loving the ash.
Ingenius strategy!! Very clever way to get them used to being separated and to come through the gate!
I agree about the wild blackberry and Greenbrier being so painfully thorny!
Hello to all of you. Working on your bison and your gates. You are an amazing family of Bison.❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Dusty, Marissa and Brooke. Great video. Love watching yall working with the bison Takes time to catch calfs. Be careful and safe. God bless and love yall ❤❤
Congrats on 250,000 Subscribers Dusty and Marisa! It was great watching the calves having fun! Their bunny hop and run.
I look forward to these videos. Always makes my day
Love watching your videos. ❤❤❤
The bison seem to love the ash!
Looking forward to working the bison for the spring!!!
Thanks, like the way you take care of your land. ✌🏻👊🏼
Looking forward to those spring native blooms and what birds will come in.
Outstanding idea
Thanks for sharing. Bison love to roll in it. Blessings to CTB 🙏🫶🙏🫶🥰
Hi Dusty and Marissa. Awesome videos you always bring us
It is a good educational video! You are just repeating a natural way of the Bison life!
A lot of native seeds germinate better after a fire.
Yes, fire is important to the prairie ecosystem. Some species need fire to germinate seed.
You guys did a perfect burn. Totally impressed. Loved the water truck being on scene.
I am always noticing your corner of Oklahoma on the weather forecast. Keeping my fingers crossed you get good soaking rain from the next few frontal systems that pass through your area.
Please give us the scoop on the poop strategy for regenerative land enrichment. It seems like you are dropping their feed where you want the bison to fertilize the soil.
Also interested in how well your water table is recovering.
Well done Dusty and Melissa.
The major herd pressure on the creep horizontal is pushing against the welds holding it. If the creep was flipped end for end the pressure would be against the vertical supports.
I love how you make stuff happen slowly, and your babies don't get stressed. That's why your animals trust you beautiful ❤
DUSTY and Marissa, awesome video. Good luck with the yearly, hope it works out really well in the long run. Have a great week and say hi to "Cora " for me. 🐎🐎🐕🐕❤❤❤.
Thank you for sharing ❤
You are so welcome
Seeing the truckloads of hay rolling through Lubbock north on I27 will make you cry knowing all the good folks doing everything they can to help. For the first couple of days of the fire schools kept kids indoors including the high schools. Hubby had pneumonia and letting our little dog out set off his cough. We are used to brown sky’s but those thick grey sky’s and that NE wind was rough. That’s when you know who the hero’s are. The ones who volunteer and run to the fire. I heard part of the fire got into Oklahoma.
God Bless 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 Dusty and Marisa thank for all you do and share with us BisonLovers
'Dunbared' - love it! I miss Dunbar's antics with you when he was younger. Now that he's matured and with a larger herd, are those mischievous ways beneath him?
I'm pretty sure that's a cow hoof. Maybe they butchered a cow and Jackie found the discard pile. Or she dug it up. Interesting for sure.
Your herd has grown so much. I love watching the bison. Good job Marissa and Dusty. ❤❤ God bless you 🙏
Always enjoy watching y'all out with the bison.
You definitely need all of your acreage you can get!!! Thank you for this video. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
You and ur wife are a beautiful couple and a beautiful family including all the bison. I love them their so cute and huge
Blackberries are vicious. Had a yard full in the city so I had to remove them by hand. Quite the job.
Great video Dusty n Marissa!!Love n Blessings
You are 100% right about the burning before it gets started on its own and you have a bigger mess than you can handle. I hope your new way of getting the cafes works out for you. I will be watching to see. Thanks for sharing and have a nice safe day!! God bless you all!!!
Awesome! The bison's are beautiful. Great video.
Hi dusty and marissa you two ate amazing with these big beautiful beasts.i love how they trust you guys so much i love the funny things they do .why dont you have a spring loaded gate to close behind you when you drive thru.
Oh the blackberries! They are so invasive! I keep finding them trying to invade my yard. Can't burn them though!
Great video on pasture work..thanks!
You guys are doing an awesome job out there. It looks so good after you finished the prescribed burn. 👍❤️
Awww 🥹 I love the new puppy ❤ and of course I love all your cool Bison’s…..y’all are my fave channel to watch 💯💯
Your spoiled Bison are like my dogs. They comarunun when treats are visible! [comarunun] is an Okie word.
Hank is a cute little bull i hope he's not going to be jerky
Good day to all.
Like to watch how you do your controlled burns. And what a great idea on separating your calves.
Thank you for the update on how things are going in Oklahoma !
Awesome video! Thank you for sharing! 👌
I love the underdog, Eleanor is my favorite, then Dunbar and Big Joe
Cute little pup.. a new one for the daughter. Now I’ve got to see how these calves will go thru those openings… well some did.. and so cute together playing and with the dog.
Blackberries also make awesome pies and, we know as jam, but I believe that you call it jelly. So if you can get the chance I'd go pick about a couple of gallons of them and ask Marissa to make some jelly and bake you a pie with them Dusty! If you do that, let me know what you think of the two things. I'm a British subject living in County Durham near Durham City in England.
It's a awesome video I like that you explain what you are doing each video,ha! Peaches 🍑 is curious.those gates every time you move them aren't they heavy im gonna watch now ❤
Thank you Dusty for the video interesting
I love how they hand around you and the truck. They definitely majestc animals
What a cool idea. So interesting that they are attracted to fire.
Hoss is imitating you😂
Hey Bullet 🥰Hey Marisa 🌸
352 is a little rascal, already has a personality!☺️🦬
Sing it Dusty😆🎼
It's going to look Beautiful this spring after the burn!🦬💜
Great lesson taught, thanks Dusty! Keep Ranchin!🙏🦬🌸🥰💜
Dusty, to fix that damaged feed trough, go to a truck/tractor tyre repair shop, and ask for a large not useable tube, and cut it so you can mold it into the corner, and the rivet them together. Cheap useable solution.
Yes, BIG JOE wants cubes. Always.
I figured Big Joe, Dumbar, Hoss would go after the hay on the back of the truck. Hello Marissa, you are such a great wife.
You have way too many furry hoofed ranch hands Dusty and Marisa! 😂 They are always happy to stand around and supervise and then demand you feed them at their leisure. Lol.
The bison seem to love the ash , several were rolling in it ! Enjoyed the video ! Your calf gate is working , some came in !
thx for sharing
One of the benefits of prescribed burning is you can control the burning with a little effort and paying attention to what you are trying to accomplish. As a 35 year firefighter veteran I like seeing the use of prescribed burning to help feed herds and also preventing massive wild fire with this technique.
Awesome video Dusty !!
Amazing job you guys
I think i might have said to you before but if you chain up a couple of goats at your blackberrys or places like that they will manage your ground for you
When we went to Yellowstone we saw bison 🦬 prints all around the hot pools. They also left lots of “biscuits “. So yes, they seem to like fires and things that are hot. Such impressive animals. So glad to have seen so many and now enjoy your videos. 🥰🇨🇦
Doing really good ya’ll ❤
Great video 😊
Love your videos and enjoy watching them. May the lord bless and protect you and your family and the animalsand the other animals and separating the calves
@ 1140 Oh my Gosh.. That was funny as heck. " Did you get her" Yep I did.. Dusty, are you a Bison Whisperer?
Watching from Delaware.
I read the ash helps keep bugs off--- true???
Great video
I had a mustang mare that did the same thing. The vet said she was looking for minerals like potash and things. She would go in while it was still smoking and start searching
OMG I was first view. Miracles. Thanks for a wonderful education
Good singing voice Dusty 😉
Love the channel
Hey Dusty and Marisa 😊😊
I ENJOYED WATCHING THE VIDEO DUSTY 😊
Your controlled burns are fantastic. We do that here in Indiana along county roadsides to get rid of weeds. Its hard on fences, but otherwise it's a good way to keep weeds and unwanted foliage down.
I wonder if the bison use ash as an insecticide or fungicide?
Or even the smoke keep bugs away?
I think so
@@CrossTimbersBison they are clever!
Good job. Good to have the calves on the moms just a little longer. Time for the calves to be weaned. Good luck with it all.
There are thornless blackberries.
Back when bison and other species roamed free; the mothers weaned their young
Dusty, you are a smarty pants! You have yourself a little herd of calves. 😅👍
Hi dusty i like your bison 🦬 a lot 🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬
