    the centre island ferry is one of the shortest ferry lines on the planet, possibly the shortest. maybe build a bridge?

      A bridge from downtown to Centre island would be a similar length to the golden gate bridge.

      Ferry to Billy Bishop is exponentially shorter. Get your facts straight.

      A bridge was proposed and nearly built, at the base of Bathurst St., but that idea was abandoned.
      Theres no practical reason to put a bridge across the eastern gap to Wards island
      A bridge is very unlikely now with the new tunnel.

      I checked on Google and the distance is less than 2km from the current location of the Toronto ferry to the Islands and even less if you build it in the east end. Much better to have built a bridge that fixes the capacity problem of being able to move thousands of people back and forth from the islands than buying ferries that doesn't address that issue at all.

    • @alistairlogie1815
      @alistairlogie1815 Před měsícem

      @@UzumakiNaruto_ the east end of the islands are not home to the main destinations on the island and the bridge would lead to cherry beach, which is hard to access even for people with cars, let alone for people taking transit

      If you're building a bridge in the east, why not build a great bike and pedestrian path that makes it easier for people to access that area and the bridge from downtown and all around? This way people have the option to walk or bike to it if they want to.
      Or the other option is why not take the current ferry location and use it as the new location for the bridge on the cityside? Why can't our leaders have some vision and be ambitious and build a bridge from that location to the islands and to address the ship issue, why not build it TALL so that the majority if not all vessels sailing in the Great Lakes can pass under it?
      With a nearly 2km bridge you can curve it gradually upwards so that the center is high enough for vessels to comfortably pass under. Also being up so high, it would immediately become a huge tourist attraction where you can get amazing views of Toronto's skyline in addition to providing a link between the city and the islands that would properly address moving thousands of people back and forth that a couple of ferries could never do. Make the bridge wide so that one side can be for pedestrians only and the other side for cyclists.
      Also to pay for this new bridge just charge people for crossing it the same as if you're charging them to ride the ferry back and forth. Maybe make it 10 dollars for foreigners and 5 dollars for Canadians so that people who live here can enjoy the islands at a discount.
      I think this would be a much better alternative to buying two ferries that still doesn't address the capacity issue and will require constant maintenance to keep the ships in service especially as they get older compared to much lower maintenance costs to keep a bridge in good shape that will likely take a shorter period of time to recoup the costs and start generating the city some extra revenue.

    claiming the E/ferries only takes 6 Minutes to charge.......does not pass the smell test, build a walking bridge and connect the islands.....Should have been done 45 years ago..

    I have heard recently that three nursing homes are closing in Toronto and the islands are getting ferries. Hhhhmmmm. We need homes for seniors. We'll all be there one day if our health issues are too bad or our families can't provide the type of care some of us may need, we'll need a safe place to live our lives at the end. We have a seriously aging population and that can/does come with bigger issues. I don't want to live on a ferry. Wisdom, wisdom is lacking here.

      @@theastuteangler Hello there. Yes, this is very scary stuff. Three nursing homes closing up in Toronto. Unfortunately, "theastuteangler" I do agree with you all the way. Canada is in serious trouble. I have heard that Canada is now on it's way to a massive, massive depression, on "steroids." This is very scary. And I believe that the sources are correct. Hang on tight. It's starting "gently" now, but will accelerate over the next few years. Canada is going to get bad.

    Just make a walking bridge

  • @joejoe-the-original
    @joejoe-the-original Před měsícem

    Just add a flat fenced surface barge to the existing ferry to handle a much larger capacity, tow it back and forth. Exit and enter through the ferry itself to the barge. Price differentiate the ferry and barge spots. It could triple the capacity of the ferry. and not be used when not needed. Save some taxpayers dollars. The ferries are not paying for themselves. Also add a kayaking option to the park with secure kayak pens (like a coat check) on the island side (or both sides) along a safe route of course.

  • @joejoe-the-original
    @joejoe-the-original Před měsícem

    Just use some old Subway cars and put some pontoons on them lash them together two by two, and tow them at the back of the existing Ferry. Might need to make the windows openable though - like the old old old TTC subway had..
