@@itsMrNobleAlbarn is being an uptight baby as he often is, so it’s right that someone calls him out on it. His status doesn’t mean he gets to treat others like shit
@antoniovasquez9946 that's not the point though, there's better ways to communicate that than being an uptight cunt about it. I'm saying this as possibly the biggest Albarn fan as well
I remember seeing this on IFC years ago and cracking up when the guy in the back mocks him with "Ewwwwwwe". You can see who it was cause the trombone players immediately turn their heads in his direction. Classic.
It's about the swing. Some performers, especially brass, seem to have problems to invoke the groove. Classical trained musicians tend to be more rigid than those who were raised in jazz/rock.
that's what i was thinking. why would you pay classical trained musicians to play exactly the type of stuff that's not their focus? just pay jazz or rock musicians.
In all fairness, he wasn't wrong, and they are a lot more in the pocket by the end...but MF didn't need to go full Nigel Tufnel 💀 Watch him with Bobby Womack years later and it's amazing how much he's chilled out, but he was also working with a legend then, so he might have just been on his best behavior lol
I mean yeah he's an impatient man and he raised his voice but he didn't insult anyone or attack anyone in specific, and even seemed to cool down very quickly.
ablurida ya honestly, after playing with the same ppl on the same song over and over it gets very frustrating. It’s hard to keep ur cool after hours of work with little process
I'm a drummer and I've seen lead singers lose their rag like this before. If they wrote the song and they dreamt up the vision I found that it's best help see their vision out rather than feel disrespectee by their tantrums. The session musician gets paid to provide and if they aren't providing expect the artist to let you know. If you think you know better than a paying artist then pay for a studio and band yourself I say
This is like something Ricky Gervais wrote as a skit or Peter Kay doing a mock up in ‘that Peter Kay thing’ or Matt Lucus and David walliams in ‘rock profile ‘ I can’t believe this is genuine and he’s wearing a sweatshirt of snoopy ‘Joe cool’ looking like himself while being completely uncool. Love Damon anyway though .
One added point though, listening to the take the artist took acception to I noticed two things about the situation. The artist was kind of right about the band playing more strictly to the metronome and so the wind instrument parts came off as slightly disconnected to the more laid back and loose feel the rhythm section had established against the click themselves. The rhythm section being the drums and bass and their parts were certainly more slinky and fell a slight behind the strict metronome pulse, a feeling that was desired by the artist in question. However, the artist was wrong in his assessment as the the fact that the brass band played more strictly and directly on the metronome pulse had a more affected tube result because the track now had and audible reference and adherence to the original and universal pulse which would allow the bass and drum playing to achieve the desired slinky time affects. If the whole band is behind the beat then the whole band may as well played on the beat. The metronome guide allows musicians and musical parts to play and interplay feels. The drag of a bass part is only a drag in relation bro a straight ahead guitar part. If both drag then the total sum of the parts make up a straight ahead performance irrespective of how they play against a metronome. I listened to this again and I think the literal playing of the brass section on the metronome pulse sounded and felt better against the laid back rhythm section . I disagree with the artists view here but still, if he is paying then you must play it
If he missed it he would be making more projects with the boys. He is not. He never wanted to make The Magic Whip but the sessions sounded good so he went with it. Glad he did. I don't think they will make another record though. It was a good band.
@@cactaceous He's making Gorillaz money which is probably more than what Blur would make those songs get more attention so he probably doesn't see much of the point. Still would be cool if they made more.
@@SpinoRexzillaEN25 The money and the fame are certainly not the issue. Albarn would not have made a second The Good, the Bad and the Queen album, the Rocket Juice and the Moon album or the small stage production projects or any of the Africa Express’ if he was in it only for money and fame. I think he outgrew Graham, Dave and Alex musically and he rather spend his tome with musicians that challenge him.
@@cactaceous I didn't mean that he was ONLY in it for the money or the fame, but just if he wanted to express himself with music he'd use Gorillaz or his own name due to it being easier than getting all 3 others.
I think this is the most sexiest clip I've ever seen really.... " fuck the click just play to the music/ vibe" 😂😂 I fucking loved that! I just totally get where Damon's coming from! You've got to feel the music!
Damon is so right. Click tracks suck! Playing with a click is not something you should rely on unless you want to be a follower. You should learn how to do it but it simply isn't musical. If one plays a ballad to a click and there's a point where you speed up, the click will sound wrong. Been done that a zillion times. You are better off with a good drummer who doesn't need a click. That's how almost all great music has been made!!!
I do see the utility of needing to sync it to film for the rhythm section. But if you don't want the horn to play with the click you should probably just mute it lol
@ToneSherpa yeah, I don't get why they didn't mute the click considering the drums and other instruments were already recorded 😂. The only reason I can think of is that the drums drop out in some sections of the song in parts we didn't hear on the video, and the brass section re-enters with drums at the same time, then hearing a click for that makes sense. Even then you could still mute it once the drums are back in.
