Hint: keep a spray bottle of hot distilled water and after each stir, spray the sides of the pot. It will keep those dried bits from getting into the batter. They came out lovely! HP is such a surprise!
That’s a fabulous suggestion, thanks for sharing!
I've made a lot of hp soap and I always blend it to a very thick, pudding like trace because it does try to separate when it starts to cook. I also agree that hp is more gentle on delicate fragrances because it doesn't have the heat and lye attacking the fragrance molecules. However, none of my hp soaps has been as fluid or beautiful as yours. You really pulled it off well!!!!
Thanks 💕 I've still got learning to do 😉
I can only agree with 'meister(above)! I've never seen any hp batter stay so fluid, and certainly never been able to work it as well or so long as you managed! Looks fab! Congratulations!
Yes, me either, but after so many times, I've started not stirring them at all, and it stays together until the end. Also, BTW, with citrus essential oils, their flashpoints are lower.
Also , I recommend Ellie's Everyday Doap Making. I can't remember where I heard it, but for soap, I only watch these 2 channels. EOs with citrus tend to lose their staying power after the 6 week cure. It might just be with CP. How was this after 6 weeks?
Call me crazy, but I just love the sound of that "glopping"! Your fluid HP is outstanding!
I received this bar today & it smells really good. Super mild, not strong at all. I love the hints in it. Both the orange & lime comes through but isn't over powering. Happy customer over here!
Thanks! I'm so glad you're enjoying the soaps🥰
I’m a hot process soap maker, and I always add my goats milk in slowly after the cook. It adds to fluidity and you don’t have to worry about the milk scorching or anything. I do have that weird separation when I use colloidal oatmeal, it always comes back together through the cook. I also only blend to emulsion.
This comment 📌📌
Do you have to wait until the soap cools any to add the milk? My batter is close to 200f when it’s done
Hi.please can you advise what to use instead of crackpot for HP soap making.. thank you ❤
Keep covered and add warmed milk around 165f@@TheVelvetTallow
I use a thick plastic bowl but you will want your oils at least 200f when you start. Put a towel under the bowl and around the base to keep it insulated. continue to stick blend until you hear the stick blender start to sound different. Its hard to explain. Be ready to take the stick blender out and start whisking down. continue this until you get to the Vaseline stage. Hope this makes sense.@@LolitaAkl
Love this rustic look!!! Beautiful
Absolutely beautiful. Great tutorial.
Thank you so much for sharing this and the recipe!
You're welcome 💕
As always, thank you for sharing!!
My pleasure!
Woe, that’s a gorgeous soap!
I love those colors!
Also, the soaps turned out really nice!
Your videos are really great. I just recently found your channel and have enjoyed watching several of your videos. You have a wonderful approach to soap making and I am now a fan.
Thank you ❤️
They look like little rocks. I love it!
Thank you
It came out so pretty
OMG I love this please keep learning so I can see it all
Love the way the soap turned out. Amazing lather!
Thank you! Cheers!
It’s a very pretty soap, love how the colors came out.
Ellen all your videos are awesome but this one was so good. Thanks so much. I enjoyed it a lot.
Glad you enjoyed it!🥰
That looks so cool. Thank you for sharing this great video.
Thanks 🥰
What a beautiful batch of bars! Just gorgeous! With those colors, I think I would do that cashmere, woodsy, beach or sea side, or a musk scent. So beautiful! Also, I loooove what the hibiscus did! It really looks like a luxury, spa bar. I wonder if maybe it looks different on camera?
I love the hot process that's how I make my soap. Mine turn out rustic as well but I am going to be playing around this weekend to try to get a more fluid soap. Thank you for sharing with us, they turned out beautiful. I actually love the colors it looks like cement/rocks with clay through it. 💕
The colors and swirls still turned out gorgeous. Thanks for sharing the recipe. Can’t wait to try it. 😊
Thanks so much 😊
It turned out lovely💕💕
Thank you for being so thoughtful giving your knowledge and recipes for soaping especially to people who want to start soaping. 💕
You are so welcome!
That’s a beautiful soap! Makes me want to try hot process!
Thanks!
I love the colors - beautiful soap.
Thank you!
Love watching your videos. I usually add the essential oils when my soap is around 100 degrees or below so they don’t burn off. Keep an eye on the flash points. I made that mistake once. 💜
Thanks for sharing!! I'm learning how important that is!
HP is fascinating Ellen. The soap looks like a marble counter top.
I am super happy I have made you another hot process soap in the time I expected, it is beautiful as always ☺️🥰👍🏻
Thanks 💕 it so different from CP
I think the colors go together. Love the trio color.
Beautiful ❤
Thank you for sharing all of your experiences, we all have learned so much from you.
My pleasure!
So true👌
The soap looks lovely.
Thanks 💕
I like the gray/not blue color. Nice soap colors 👌. Thanks for sharing
I love love your hot process soap!!! You are my soap guru!! Love all your videos
Oh thank you!
Also I must add the way you talk and express yourself it’s sooo soothing and relaxing!! Especially now a days the world is in turmoil!! Watching your videos is my therapy and I also make a great soap 🧼 thanks to you!! Keep them videos coming
Just watched this video again and I absolutely love the color of this soap‼️
Thank you so much!
Beautiful ❤️ This is one of the nicest hot process soaps I have seen.
Thanks so much 😊
You did very good!!
Hermoso trabajo Ruth ,gracias

Desde Argentina, Buenos Aires te mando muchos cariños
Thank you for an honest assessment of your soap💕I learned a lot. It is very interesting compared to cold processing, a little intimidating 😬
Oh I’m excited. I have all of these ingredients! I think I may try my hand at hot process soap today 😊 Yours turned out beautifully.
Yay! Thank you!
I LOVE the granite look of this batch ❤
I love HP Soaps. Made a few in the last weeks. Watching your video was so nice, thank you 🥰 What I love about is, that you can add really special and delicate ingredients or oils and they "survive". I made one with special oils from Africa like !Nala and Mongongooil, so that what HP makes special for me.
Love watching & learning from you Ellen! I started making soaps a year ago with hopes of one day being good enough to sell. I recently bought three bars of your soap & just started using the gilded pear. It is amazing & I love it. It smells great, lathers wonderfully yet the most wonderful part for me is the way your soap bar feels in my palms. Know it’s weird, yet your soap feels different than other soap makers I’ve tried. Thank you for so graciously sharing with us all❣️ Ann
Oh, thank you! I'm so glad your enjoying your soap! Have fun soaping!
I absolutely love the color the Hibiscus came out and the little specs in it are so pretty!!! You can use that color in your next color scheme. The swirls are beautiful. Some marble effects there make them so interesting.
Cheers 💕💕👍
Thanks! I do think the color is pretty, I'm just not sure it goes with the scent...🤣
Also keep forgetting to tell u a natural pink that stays pink is rose clay & a little goes a long way so watch it! You have to kinda experiment with it too find the shade you want! It is a beautiful natural clay with amazing slip and skin benefits! Kudos!
Thank you for the tutorial, it was so lovely. By the way….you are really beautiful. You are glowing like a star 💫
You did so great on your hot process soap. I do the High Temp Hot process and it will keep you moving in the process.
Thanks! I really want to try HTHP, I'm still a bit nervous...
As a newbie soap maker, I started out with HP to save a seized soap😩and I loved the process and outcome except my top was a mess. This video was perfect for getting tips on keeping molds warm and how to keep the batter more fluid. Thanks!
So cool to watch. Interesting ! 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love these bars, they don’t look hot process, you did a great job here. Well done 👍💕💕💕
Thank you so much 🤗
I love this. I think you did a smashing job! I love the pewter color. Thank you for sharing your experiences and videos! Beautiful. A job well done! God bless you! 🙏
Thank you so much💕
I actually like a juxtaposition in the look and fragrance. Especially because I am sensitive to a lot of fragrances but I really like a color combination. Citrus fragrances are always a go to for me.
I am obsessed! I love the look of these soaps. I have been doing a deep dive on soap making because it will be my annual new hobby to learn for 2024. I was ready to just jump in my doing melt and pour, but the more I have journeyed into the various processes, hot process seems like the road I want to take. I am so excited to jump in next year. I have been binging your videos and I love them! Fabulous work.
Thanks! Have fun soaping, it's such a great craft❣️
Those are really pretty. I’m excited for you to try hthp, it’s really fun.
I’m so nervous about hthp, but I really want to try it!
@@EllenRuthSoap You’ll be fine, I recommend starting with a two pound batch in case it volcanoes.
HERMOSO¡¡
Turned out nice! I am going to try a hot process soap soon I hope, just kinda weary about it yet lol! I can't put that much coconut oil in mine though, that's pretty drying for my skin, but, I can tweak it lol! Thanks for the recipe Ellen. 🙂
Have fun soaping 💕
I love your videos you explain alot❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much 😀
Those would look amazing in some fun rock shaped molds! The already look like beautiful slabs of stone.😁 I get hung up on colors and scents going together, but I honestly don’t think most people care!
I like the rock mold idea! Yes, I think you're right, at the end of the day I don't think it's a big deal if the colors and scent "match".... Thanks for the encouragement!
Ellen, boy what an undertaking you took doing two HP soaps at the same time!! Great job. I think it’s called “Greige.”. I like it and it would go with my son’s bathroom decor.😊
🥰💕
So pretty Ellen!
you are doing good. you are totally working your hp with hibiscus and goji. great job girlfrined. i think it looks awewome very royal
Thank you so much 😊
i found this one and it makes it seem so easy. i thought of you because i dont know what i am doing hahaha. it might help both of us. czcams.com/video/5TlOE5KkGhs/video.html
Pretty! . . . pink for natural colorants I would try madder root (add to lye) or yellow dock root powder infused in one of your soaping oils :)
Really Beautiful and rustic. I am no expert on HP but many times my oils have separated and come back by using my stick blender the same way you did but you don't have too. I love soap makin' it doesnt always work out as planned, it will test your patience and humble you.❤
🥰
Beautiful soaps an yes I agree a more herbal scent would be perfect. I like watching cp soap making but something about hp is just so enjoyable to watch for me.
Hello, I already practice the cold method and I will start the hot method which interests me a lot for the rustic side of its colors and the interest of protecting its precious oils and essential oils. I will allow myself to reproduce your magnificent goji / hibiscus soap, the colors are so magnificent. This will be my first hot process soap. I'll scent it with patchouli and it'll have your name on it, Ellen. Thank you very much for your experience sharing. Isa from France
🥰 have fun soaping 💕
That’s pretty Ellen!
Thank you!
I love this soap. It looks like stone with rivers of gold. Absolutely accidently gorgeous! I would suggest you keep making it. I know men especially will love them. Maybe put a mild sweet woodsy scent? Again, gorgeous design and so much hard work. Thank u for sharing. I would also venture out to a soft gold mia in the caramel color and add additional color of copper in the swirl (thin line). Well done.
Thank you! Cheers!
I can't smell them, but they definitely had the look. Real nice. 🥰🇬🇧⛄
Guys will live this one, it looks like a granite!
I think you’re right👍
Very rustic! I love it! I have done LOTS of HP .. I do the high heat and can be done in 15 minutes from start to finish .. Just be very watchful if you try the fast method because when it volcanos, it can go over the top .. I also add my milk with the yogurt after the cook so it doesn't scorch .. I have a very heavy weight stainless steel whisk that is my best friend ... brings it together so quick and no risk of burning out your stick blender :)
Thanks for the input! I'm still nervous about HTHP, but am so curious... Next time I will hold the milk until the end, like you suggested.
Great video and I do like the colors! I've had the same experience when I used hibiscus powder which turned a burgundy brown color. Also I've started splitting my liquid in my HP soaps. I mix 60% of the liquid with the SH and add the remaining 40% to the soap as soon as it has finished the cook. The part I like is that the soap cooks even faster due to less fluid and your arm gets a workout because of the thick batter.
That’s really interesting, I’ll have to give that a try...
@@EllenRuthSoap - I got the idea from a Soap and Clay video and tried it with goat milk that I warmed in the microwave before I added to the soap.
The soap looks lovely, Ellen! It's actually not the heat of either process that causes the hibiscus flower powder to change colour from the lovely fuschia it is normally, but the PH of the soap that causes the change. That said, I really like the colour you got from it in this soap!
Thanks! I actually like the finished hibiscus color, but I want to use it in applications where that lovely pink can come thru too...
What a fascinating technique is hot process, it sure is different from cold process but I think I'll stick to cold process and the other hot process technique were you use your hot lye water to melt your hard oils and butters
🥰👍
I love that it looks like a mineral soap beautiful!! What about a more masculine scent 😊
I think they turned out great. When I saw the thumbnail and the awesome swirls I clicked on the video immediately. It doesn't matter if you're making CP or HP, your soaps are always gorgeous! I always love the look of Hot Process. I haven't mastered a pretty top yet either but after I cut them into bars they still always look good and I like the rustic look. I think a lot of the herbal and flower powders morph because of the high pH and not just due to high temps. I've done HTFHP quite a few times and I love it. Depending on the recipe you can get it to a thick trace and it's just a matter of minutes, maybe not even that before it volcanos the first time. You just have to watch and be ready to stir, stir, stir. It does cook a lot faster but then you have to remember to keep the lids on the crock pots because when it cooks that fast you are losing a lot of moisture quickly and it won't stay fluid for very long. I like to save my essential oils for HP too, and also fragrance oils that misbehave too much in CP. It's nice that there is the option so we don't have to miss out on using some fragrance oils that rice horrifically or totally seize the instant you add them.
Thanks! I'm still really intimidated by HTHP, but I'm super curious... I think I'm going to have to give it a try at some point...
@@EllenRuthSoap You should. It really not scary. I was kind of apprehensive the first time I did it but I watched every single one of Valerie Mosher's (Shalebrook Handcrafted Soaps) videos (many of them more than once) and also bought the Ultimate Guide to HTFHP book from Ashley. She has a FB group also. Valerie's videos are awesome and her soaps blow me away.
Hi Ellen! You are my favorite soap maker to watch. I love that you use natural colors too! I am a natural colorants soaper and wanted to give you a suggestion, try an infusion of Hungarian paprika to give you a bright orange to go with the orange essential oil. Another way to use the hibiscus powder is to paint on bath bombs like you would with a mica. Bless you, take care💖
Thank you! Those are brilliant suggestions 💕
@@EllenRuthSoap you're welcome! These are so pretty just like they are too.
I don’t agree when you said the colors don’t go together. They do go beautifully, I love it, super gorgeous!
Oh thank you!
Very earthy look! I love it! What are you cooking for dinner mom? Hot process soap😁. You're wonderful!
🤣 Yum! Thanks!
I love the color of the hibiscus powder! I don’t know if you could get that result with a mica, it’s so organic looking.
Goat's milk hot process often separates, I've always just brought it back together with the stick blender. That also seems to make it gel faster also (stick blending while cooking). Unfortunately no botanical other than cornflowers and calendulas seem to stand up to the lye monster. I think it's a cool looking soap, but I agree, the colors don't match the scent. Thank you for talking about the cure time. Too many think they can cook and sell.
I love the chemistry of soaping, it's complicated and fascinating💕
I had the exact thing happen when I made HP soap with grapefruit juice, it split, but managed to get it to come together with the stick blender, phew! Maybe the sugars or acid in juice/milk? Yours looks great, it's so fluid!
I'm so glad it finally pulled together... I was a bit nervous for a while there...
Another viewer said guys would love it because it looks like a piece of granite. I have to agree. I really like the way the colors turned out. A little tobacco & bourbon FO and it’s a guys soap, maybe even a shave soap. 🪒👍🏻.
Love the scent suggestion! Thanks!
😍❤️👏
Are correct, with hot process you need to come to a heavier trace then you would with cold process
🤣 I'm learning...
I replied to your ❤️ on my own comment that you'll probably never see!! Oops 😬 I found this amazing and so impressive!! Wowness!! Beautiful!
Thank you so much!!💕
I see we have the same middle name too & my mama as well as my first daughter and she wanted to carry on the name with giving Ruth to our grand daughter! Any who , I just wanted to say at times I have used silk fibers from Bramble berry & incorporate into my lye solution but it's always bothered me that anything in my lye solution may mostly be destroyed along with the benefits and amazing properties so I researched & finally found a different form of pure silk in powder form from New Directions Aromatics that you can buy soluble in water or oil to dissolve in to add after the cook!! Still relatively expensive but at least doesn't get destroyed in the lye solution and it makes my soap feel amazing ! I've been doing this for years! Thought you'd like to check into this!!
Ruth is such an old fashioned name, but I love it! Thanks for the silk info💕
LOL these food references are making me hungry :D...gorgeous soaps
😊 thank you
That soap is so beautiful. I just got the triple skinny mold but not sure how much of the batter to make.
They have all the mold capacity & specs on their website
Hi Ellen
I made 100% coconut milk HP soap and it came out beautiful. I added coffee grains and some coffee FO. It was pretty fluid and the finished bars are so smooth. Only my 2nd attempt at hp soap. You gave me the courage to do it. So thank you, Ellen. Love from Pretoria, South Africa 😘💐
That sounds like a great soap! Good job💕
@@EllenRuthSoap thank you
Oh my that sounds so nice, but tell me how did you go about using 100% coconut milk in lye without scorching milk did you use a ice bath
The soaps came out lovely.
This is the first video I've seen where you can add the colors 😅
Thank you.
My question would be can you use a hand cake blender on low to do the mixing instead of all the stirring 😊
❤🎉
Thanks! I haven't tried it with a mixer??? you could give it a try and see👍
Ok when I do I will let you know lol 🤣😅
High temperature HP soap maker here and I always add any milks after the cook I also add sodium lactate along with 8-10% SF
Thanks for the input❣️
Is the 8-10 SF all added at the end after the cook? If not, how do you work that out? @nhonor6322
I do 5% SF in soap calc then heat 3-5% and add after cook@@dragonflydrifter
Wolf Anglemyer: New to the hobby I have made two batches of CP and they have both come out great looking forward to doing a batch of HP, but there is one thing that I am worried about and that is the use of titanium dioxide I have read the reports on its effect on cells is that a concern. I want to make my soaps as natural as possible. I really love your videos I only wish I had a basement studio . I do all of my work in my kitchen. Happy soaping.
I am NO expert but I have seen some put the milk in after the cook, so MAYBE that's why it separated(?)
SO BEAUTIFUL!!! 😍😍😍
Thank you 😋. I do think next time I'll do it differently
I love it, and I never bother matching scents to colour and I find customers don’t care lol
Thanks! That's a good point, I haven't seen any down side to color/scent mismatches...
Hi Ellen - I've really loved watching your videos. I've been trying HP process soap making for a few months now and really love it. I'm hoping to make a vegan bar so wondering if you think the sodium lactate would be sufficient to help with fluidity. Thanks again for your videos! Love you passion! Oh and what type of stamp are you using? Brass or resin or acrylic?
Thanks! The sodium lactate really does help with the fluidity of the batter. My stamp is a hard resin mounted on wood. There's a link in the description box.
I usually add the milk toward the end of my process. Also I heat all my additives.
