    Just bought my GL 1000, and you showed me why oil was coming out of the weep hole behind the pump, at the bottom of the trans cover. The PO put in a new water pump, but did not put the smaller o-ring in around the back of the pump. I'm really glad he missed that, bc I found he also failed to install the oil ferrule passage on the RHS of the engine that supplies oil to the filter, and new aluminum crush washers on the three bolts holding the pump to the case. Fortunately I bought the entire water pump gasket kit that came with all the o-rings, gaskets and washers, so no problemo. Back to the interwebs to find a replacement ferrule, but again, great work on this video!

      ah, you are doing good things for that bike. Best of luck finding a ferrule. It will be great when you are done.

    Make sure with this engine you should be using blue coolant made for aluminum engines and rads that are silicate free other wise is can damage the engine and make the rad leak overtime with the silicates acting like sand paper to all the channels and tearing them away. The clymers manual as well as the honda manual reference this, cheers!

  • @MotorvriendenDePallieters

    Well done, yes water and oil are now the 2 enemies of each other. You have solved this nicely again 👍👌

    BTW, the things you call "tabs" are referred to in the shop manual as "dowel pins" (if they don't have fluid flowing through them) or "collars." Just in case you wanted to know 😀

    Thanks a lot for this video. You made this look very easy. I have next to no mechanical experience on my gl1200 and think I need to replace the water pump. Will follow this video step by step with a buddy when I do it. Thanks again, this looks like it'll be a fun project to get into!

      Best of luck! There are a number of steps, but it's totally feasible. AND totally worth it! At least on mine, it made a HUGE difference, cause the seals were TOAST. For me the flushing of the oil was the most annoying part as I didn't know when it would end...

    thank you very much for this video. I purchased an 83 goldwing aspencade where the previous owner had removed the water pump as you did, but had not replaced it. I had worried if the bike would be worth fixing or to take the parts off it and sell them, scrapping the rest. the engine only has 68,000 miles on it. After watching this video i think i may atl east put in a new pump and put the parts on to see if it will run. Thanks again. The wiring is a mess, but if the engine runs i may put it in a small cabin boat project i am getting ready to start on.

    Just an FYI, the reason for no torque specs on the water pump assembly housing is because the original fasteners were large screw heads not hex head fasteners. Really good video…..

    I have a Honda Goldwing GL1100 Interstate, i have a big problem, when i ride in
    uphill roads, the motor is overhead too much, but i don't what ocurre, the thermostat, the water pump, the oil, etc, could you guide me what happened with my motorcycle....?

    • @Trevor-ju6uw

      Check to make sure your fan is. Oming on..the thermal switch fails causing fan to not run. Easy fix is to bypass switch and run power and a ground to fan on a togglw switch. Or replace thermal switch. Ive road my gl1100 for 10 years on a toggle.

    Hey quick ?? Did this solve your issue ?? I don't believe the head gaskets are bad on my 82, cause it runs and don't smoke to holy hell... I can get all the parts for about $120... But most people I talk to say the water pump is usually the culprit on these goldwings....

    • @HooptieDoodle
      @HooptieDoodle  Před 4 lety +1

      Yeah, the water pump was my problem. Oil looks like oil now, ya-hoo! New water pumps aren't cheap though. I had a good extra one around, but the other oem gaskets and seals I bought were less than $30

      Tried 2 after market pumps. Both leak had apart 4 times. . I think the pump housing was to big ,replace it with oem slide right in no leaks

    i was going to say but never mind, hey do ya think ya could do new clutch without pulling motor?

    • @HooptieDoodle
      @HooptieDoodle  Před 5 lety

      The clutch can be removed with the engine in the bike. You have to remove the rear wheel and exhaust, but it can be done. I am hoping that I don't have to do that any time soon (fingers crossed).
