Learning to fly Taihoro takes a lot of work. They seem comfortable with their Waka design. Good signs.

Nice see Taihoro flying with great Rehutai foils in low wind....
The Rehutai had also great foils and was over a ton more on to lift up.
❤️ kiwis perfection and love to sports... also kiwis if living or doing some then with enthusiasm and love.... fly Taihoro fly...
What fully name of our lovely boat?

Taiporoporo is her name and she seems to glide in super low wind.

Looks like Taihoro has a technique for dealing with gusts, where she just raises the ride height.
So just popping up higher, or lower, as the wind strength changes.
Instead of heeling over, a higher ride height would allow more wind slippage under the hull, relieving excess pressure.
And it may also increase the righting moment too - altho someone with more maths might like to check that one out...

In high winds it looked like quite a bit of (deliberate) heel going on too?

Looked good foiling in those light winds but once you drop off the foils it takes a while to get back up again.

Last time in Auckland I doubt if any yacht would have gotten on to their foils in yesterdays light wind.

I thought I heard that the mast was one design? Thats not the same as the others.
"Some parts of the boat are supplied - the mast, rigging, foil-cant arms and their hydraulics are all stock components"

Not sure on that but without backstays all down force is controlled with forestay tension

Plenty of interest concerning the foils but not much said about the rudder foil. I. It seems equally important. Do they differ much from other rival boats?

    • @airflownztravel
      @airflownztravel  Před 3 měsíci

The other teams are also holding back on their new rudder foils. The only report I have seen is that the tilt gear seems to be all now above deck.

@@airflownztravel Barcelona has long deep waves even with 8kt, it's a strange spot. Look at Alinghi foil, up and down all the time. I don't think its a bouat issue.
