CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Cambridge professors approve Stephen's (Eddie Redmayne) theory about a space/time singularity.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
James Marsh's biopic of the celebrated scientist Stephen Hawking, The Theory of Everything, stars Eddie Redmayne as the famous figure. Enrolled as a graduate student at Cambridge, Hawking establishes himself as one of the leading minds of his generation, and begins to win the heart of Jane (Felicity Jones). After one of his earliest breakthroughs, Hawking is diagnosed with ALS, and he becomes less and less able to control his own body. With the loyal Jane at his side, he continues his work. However, as the years progress, Jane starts to feel more like a nurse than a wife, and Hawking begins to have feelings for a woman who is hired to care for him. The Theory of Everything screened at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival.

Rest in peace, Stephen Hawking
Rezwanul Choudhury One of the greatest legends of his time
Rezwanul Choudhury R.I.P. man even though his mind was controlled by a computer he was still a good man a good father and a good grandfather

@Justin Porter You're wrong!
@Justin Porter Do you think Einstein is a fraud too?
I got chills when he said "one simple elegant equation to explain everything".He's talking about the Grand Unified Theory. :')
Not quite. GUTs currently only attempt to unify the electromagnetic force and weak nuclear force with the strong nuclear force. They typically leave out gravity, so far. Although, the EM and weak forces have been unified.
Source: A Brief History of Time
I got chills too!!
The answer is 42, sir!
David Harrison
Yes, but what's the equation? What's the question?
+Feste the Phile X+9 multiplied by the gravity of all house cats and divide it by every dog's ears. You will receive 42, SIR!
The first time you're ever referred to as 'Doctor' has got to be one of the happiest moments of your life
I’m sure it is, whether it’s medical or a research doctor. My grandfather was born in 1930 and grew up during the depression. He excelled in his academics and went to medical school to become a surgeon. I’m sure for him it was amazing to achieve that with all he went through. My parents both went down the same route, and I hope to one day. Hopefully.
Yes it was! I had my viva about a month ago.
I have a PhD, but never use my title. I have found people respect me for not doing so.
@@malcolmabram2957 Absolutely.
I did not feel very different after obtaining my PhD in mathematics 😅
i can't stop my self from thinking "look, professor Lupin and Newt Scammander!"
LaReineBleue haha same
LaReineBleue I never knew that.
LaReineBleue Harry potter
LaReineBleue Strange because Scamander is actually older than Lupin too when in real-life it's the opposite.
Ikr
He seemed so dejected at the beginning when they were describing the holes in his thesis. And then they said "brilliant" made me smile the way he reacted. Oscar worthy movie lead by Oscar winning performances
I love how Lupin is Hawking's professor. :) Playing another influential teacher to a bright mid. :)
Jess Garcia xD Ikr? He can help him defend himself from a boggart. Needed info haha
Jess Garcia e
Lol
@@Sublime-fo6ug he needs to save me from working in an office
Imagine him with his wand
Just imagine how it feels the first time refers to you as “Doctor.”
That feeling can`t be explained by words !! It`s great when someone says
.... Doctor who?
Gonna be a doctor some day
It’s happened to me before and I don’t even have a Ph. D (yet).
Such an amazing actor.
Sreemoyee Bhattacharya Who? David or Eddie?
Im Awesome He's obviously talking about Enzo Cilenti.
From the Films: Guardians of the Galaxy, Kick Ass 2, Free Fire, The Fourth Kind, The Wicked Within, 24 Hour Party People, Wonderland, Late Night Shopping, The Man with the Iron Heart, High Rise, The Martian etc
And the TV Shows: Game of Thrones, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, The Last Tycoon, Jekyll and Hyde, NCIS, Wolf Hall, House, Prisoners Wives, Spooks, Where the Heart Is, The Virgin Queen, Rome etc
Enzo's range of accent's is excellent but nothing can beat his own Bradfordian Yorkshire accent.
I... Agree... 👍 👍
This film is what got me into Eddie Redmayne's work. Astonishing!! One of the best of our time.
oscar worthy performance
Well yeah. He won an Oscar for it.
he won for it
Ikkr
This scene inspires me to study for my physics A levels whenever I get sick of it
Wut
Hahahahahaha
same lol
we here for same reason then
Same just got over them . It made me love unit 5
This actor absolutely killed it in this role.. unbelievably touching.
1:34 that line shows how amazing humans are.The purpose, the capacity! That line shows the soul, the spirit of an scientist!it's beautiful!!!!!
The acting was so good, I felt bad and forgot that the actor isn’t actually disabled.
What an inspiring scene. Really inspires me to one day stand in-front of a panel of Doctors to read my PhD thesis.
Just don't expect your viva to last 2 minutes 😂
I’m having my Viva next year for my PhD thesis
You a doctor yet?
Remus Lupin again being the best professor
Ir Boz and Newt Scamander again being a student 😍
Never told Harry this
I just realized that Stephen Hawking said he would remain standing at the beginning because he knew if he sat, he might not be able to rise again. Its amazing that he was able to live and function under such circumstances.
I downloaded his whole thesis that he handed in, and I didn't understand squat. It is so advanced, it's insane.
@The Great Casts Properties of an Expanding Universe
I’ve seen this a hundred times and I still bawl my eyes out every time. Beyond moving, is all I can say.
RIP Stephen, Well done doctor!
Well he died as a professor, but your right in that direction.
Professor not doctor
The actor died???!! So young!
@@Zak-ob5ze idiot
@@Zak-ob5ze PhD means Doctor of Philosophy. Doctor doesn’t always just entail a medical professional.
"Well done doctor" has to feel amazing.
and the answer is...42
yep
+Indra Gunawan What do you mean by the answer is 42?
Lego Ang the answer to Life, the universe, and everything.
Daniel Kelly I still don't understand.
***** watch hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy
Here in this day just to say thank you, professor.
“This brought a tear to my eye”
Today, I protected my PhD thesis, so I back to watch this video. This movie is one of my motivations to keep researching. Thanks, Hawking.
Yes I agree, very inspirational
You “defended” not protected
Professor Lupin and Newt Scammeder in the same movie?!! This is perfection!!😍😍😍
Anyone the clip, where Stephen gives the presentation to all professors and one profesdor says " the young man has nailed it"
the little one has done it
He talks about the Hawking radiation in that clip
I'm Harry Pottering so hard right now.
Dwight K. Schrute I can relate
yes
Sure dwain
This movie is about Newt Scamander's work under the mentorship of Professor Lupin, and then how he got married to Jyn Erso, who eventually left him for Daredevil.
I can assure you Harry isn't thinking of you
''One simple elegant plane, to take me to an island'' :,) Beautiful scene
Its cool how these are his actual professors (by name) Roger Penrose (left), Dennis Sciama (his supervisor, middle) and Kip Thorne (Right)
Beautiful writing, and beautiful acting. Can’t ask for much more really...
I've just read chapter 4, and he does prove the theory there. Btw, I didn't understand any of his thesis.
InvaderScuzz and nobody will
Bro! Your theory was proved correct! They found the black hole image! Photo is amazing! As are you bro!!! RIP, you did it Stephen :)
Finding a black hole wouldn't prove the theory that the universe originated from an exploding black hole, or do I miss something. Although it could be that a black hole will turn into a space time singularity to create a new cycle of a periodic expanding and (the opposite of expanding(inpanding?)) the universe
Those aren't connected though?
black holes were already theorised but Hawking predicted that they would emit x-rays, now called 'hawking radiation'
@@Ayoutubeaccount3 he has predicted the death of black holes
Sorry, Cumberbatch. Redmayne did it better.
and Keaton even beyond
Burn lol
I did like The Imitation Game, it was tough one but yes, Eddie deserved more
Sorry farty jelly, Cumberbatch is just as talented and capable as Redmayne. You should watch his Sherlock.
@@vampirethespiderbatgod9740 lol, that show is terrible
I just want to give him a hug 😔
Farwell Professor Steven Hawking.
May your work guide humanity into the next era.
As a person who has a PhD in chemistry, I wish my dissertation defense was this chill and quick lmao. Most science defenses are an hour long presentation open to the public, and then a closed session where your committee drills you or compliments you, and you won’t know which one.
0:50 "Well, at least you run with them"
Great scene of a historical moment in Physics! R.I.P Professor Hawking.
My father went in and was told: ‘there’s always room for improvement, but for now we’ll call you Doctor, Moses.’
What an extraordinary scene. These movies are the best, the ones where you find meaning, hope, and determination to succeed despite physical limitations.
Rest in Peace, Mr Hawking
My God I love this man Stephen hawking and I admire how marvelously Eddie Redmayne portrayed him
This is probably the fastest, easiest PhD defence ever.
@@josephgold208 lol fair.
Disregarding his physical handicapp Stephen Hawking travelled farther than most man before. Well done Mr. Hawkings, very well done indeed! Rest in Peace!
Rest in peace, Remus Lupin
which chapter takes place on epsteins island?
I was so scared he wouldn’t get his doctorate. But he did 😂😂
Harry Potter much? Remus Lupin and Newt Scamander, plus Snape is at 2:29 in the end of the video (not movie).
And Enzo Cilenti (the guy on the right of the screen) is a Bradford City fan. The team who wear the exact same colours as Gryffindor, and is where Monty Python (the inspiration for a lot of J.K. Rowling's ideas) filmed a lot of their stuff in the 60's.
haha ❤❤
:o
I know it's a random bit and I only praise mathematics since I'm not fortunate enough to have studied it (yet, hopefully), but to hear someone describe an equation as "simple, elegant" for some reason brings up a weird emotion in me that I can't put my finger on how to describe. A beautiful happiness is all I can describe it as, and it comes simply from a movie.
"Chapter 1 full of holes"💀
I cry every single time when watching this scene. Very inspirational!
Its my favorite scene also
It kinda brought a tear in my eye when he said "well done doctor".
This scene was just, awesome.
David thewlis looks like Professor Lupin here...i love him..
this is why wanna be a physicist, equations make me emotional
Stephen Hawking was ahead of his time when he discovered the black hole theory and showed it to his professors in this scene
Thank god every day to be able to be me without pain and suffering. This man went through hell every day physically.
The one sits leftmost is roger penrose
He won the Nobel price for physics this year
I give him my hearty Condolences and Prayers 🙏🙏RIP Stephen Hawking
A man of great passion! RIP Prof. Hawking
Man what an amazing actor
Lupin and Newt all again?
This was amazing, I always watched this back then when I was struggling in my major Electromagnetic Theory, We are asked How to solve the coulumb force on the universe, the answer was 15 coulomb, Proving it was so hard, it got differential equation method, integral calculus (integration) and simple trigonometric function that force was define in plane from a single point to another in 3 dimension (vector quantity in polar coordinate and rectangular coordinate express in "j" and "k"). Unfortunately I got Zero in the Exam, and I was feeling so bad, I was so stupid.
I'm so sorry, how are things now?
Two Nobel laureates, Roger Penrose 2020 and Kip Thorne 2017, in the Ph.D. committee
"Thank you" ☺
i like how they gave him Buddy Holly-like glasses
Cool how professor lupin is actually a professor when he's not doing magic 😉
What an extraordinary human being he was
Im so glad this movie came out before Hawking passed away.
What an actor....! 🙌🔥
1:10, my eyes became blurry
the man had everything but his brain taken from him, and in response he focused everything on the only thing he had left and became the most intelligent man to ever grace the human race with his existence.
Such... Brilliant... Theory... Of Everything... You've did Professor Well Done ✔
Hello there Professor Lupin! You really are a great teacher!
"Indeed" love it... so british
He wrote the answers on a chalkboard out of his reach
A bit ironic that he seeks for a single equasion that would explain everything, but lacks mathematical support in his 1st chapter. Nevertheless I like this movie.
see that's what I couldn't figure out were they messing with him there or was it true because if hes missing the mathematical support to prove his theory then his theory doesn't really mean shit I can come up with theories all day if I didn't have to actually prove them
Why comment when you clearly have no idea what you're talking about? *Of couuuurse* his theory is (way) more than him just saying a nice idea he had with no proof. Math can't work without a solid proof of your every statement and Hawking was an excellent mathematician, as well as a physicist. The comment on his first chapter "lacking mathematical support" just means that he could have been more thorough with his statements and that he may have left a few things not rigorously proven. You can't earn a PhD in physics (from Cambridge, mind you) without a solid thesis.
sofisrivera you just burned them xD well said
Ainārs Feldmanis lmao
sofisrivera pretty sure it was a joke
1:33 he sound like Donald Trum
0:35 that guy is a good actor he should have been in a cast of a famous movie
Galaxy God he’s in multiple famous films including Harry Potter and Wonder Woman
It's brilliant, brilliant Harry. Well done.
*Prof Lupin*
This movie's sound track literally takes us into a deep space
"Let me just casually explain everything."
of course, i cried. what a question!
I literally just said the closing words not word for word but almost to a T right before he said it all. Wowwww
The shortest dissertation defense in the history of physics.
RIP Stephen
Newt Scamander meets Professor Remus Lupin
He is a most inspirational man in the world
The amount of spelling errors at 0:15 is staggering
It was very impressive, that Hawkins was still using a type writer with such advanced ALS. Type writers unlike keyboards require much more force to write. Spelling errors were inevitable.
@Pete is never wrong I was under the impression that that was a mistake by the props department, not Hawkins. So relax your sphincter
Brilliant!!
In this scene he was in the early stages of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.
R.I.P. 💔
I still tear up watching this scene, remembering the dream of me sitting on my knees in front of him and him saying, "God is dependent on humans, and so are we, and so do I embrace you with my full love"
He probably refused to sit down because he probably wouldn't be able to get up.

I knew that was Lupin as soon as I heard him-
That equation is i love you but as a friend, thats explains everything.
