      i always would like to imagine several fan theories.
      1.) andy was incredibly intelligent hence making VP at a bank at the age of 30 during the era when seniority still meant something. (well this isn't a theory red in teh movie said andy was a young banker)
      2.) andys ability to maintain cool, keep his composure, endure the hardships of prison life, given his age he probably served in WW2 as a army or navy officer given his educational background.
      3.) andy is just 10 steps ahead of everyone else his ability to manipulate individuals without them even knowing it that benefits andys survival in the prison... that's some next level stuff.

    • @notiitans
      @notiitans Před rokem +7

      Was he praising the Warden, or warning the warden? “Keep watch because you dont know when the master of the house is coming”; obviously the warden thinks Andy is saying “stay on your toes because you never know when the Warden will show up.” What Andy really is saying is “Watch out, I am in charge here, and when I want to, I will bring this whole place down.” Warden cannot fathom a prisoner is the one who is actually in charge. But as Andy is innocent and literally everyone else is a criminal, Andy is the actual Master of the house. As the movie progresses Andy set the Warden up to go to jail, and walk out with the Wardens money.

      found this comment while looking at indiana jones music: The "Grail Theme motif" is copied note for note, and is used twice by composer Thomas Newman in the movie The Shawshank Redemption. The first instance is at the end of the scene where Warden Norton supervises the guards tossing Andy's cell. The Warden leaves the cell with Andy's Bible, and the theme plays when the warden hands the Bible back to Andy and says "Salvation is found within."
      The second instance of the theme is when Andy is in the Warden's office, and sees the sign hanging on the wall that says "His judgment cometh and that right soon."

    This scene has such a different meaning on second viewing. Andy is fearful, but not for the reasons the warden thinks. "Almost forgot. Hate to deprive you of this, salvation lies within". And in his blind arrogance, he hands him back his salvation, both figuratively and literally. Such great writing.

  • @oscargermaine9221
    @oscargermaine9221 Před 4 lety +7

    The master of the house line has so many meanings. It could be interpreted as Andy must beware of his tunnelling because he does not know when the warden or his guards might show up. It can also be meant as subtle threat to be warden as Andy knows what he’s doing and to treat him with civility or he’ll expose his secrets after he escapes. The salvation lies within line could mean the rock hammer inside the bible but also the hope that compels andys desire to escape, his reminders of the outside world such as the music and the beer. I like the think that’s what compelled Andy do both of those things

      YES!!! i had this exact thought years ago ... you would obviously put the hammer in the hole because if the hole gets discovered, you're screwed anyway. the hammer in the bible makes for the nice ironic twist of 'salvation lies within' though
      similarly, andy would never wear the warden's shoes to his cell on his last night. it's incredibly risky because if any guard or inmate looked at his shoes for a moment and called him out on it, his entire scheme would likely be foiled after 17 years of effort. instead, he would save up a few bucks over the years, and buy a cheap pair of shoes the morning after escaping. much smarter plan.
