    Cutters used in the video @ goo.gl/Bd5YMd
    This video demonstrates the Clone 4D Duplicator carving a paramotor propeller by copying just one half of a damaged prop.
    The hub of the master and blank are bolted to the work top at exactly the same centres as the router cutter and stylus tip.
    0:07 - 0:13 The prop master and blank are screwed down at both ends, and the hub bolts are removed so the hub can be machined.
    0:15 - 0:40 The hub is machined.
    0:40 - 0:52 Both hubs bolts are re fitted.
    0:52 - 3:30 The top of the first blade is carved.
    3:36 - 4:14 The blank is removed and rotated 180 degrees. The centre line drawn on the blank is lined up with the centre line on the work top and the blank is fixed in place.
    4:15 - 5:45 The second blade is carved.
    5:55 - 6:21 The blank and master are turned over, lined up with the reference lines on the work top, and firmly fixed in place.
    6:22 - 7:33 The back face of the second blade is carved.
    7:34 - 7:49 The blank is rotated 180 degrees.
    7:50 - 9:05 The back face of the first blade is carved. At 8:21 the main router assembly rail lock is applied with every pass, ensuring that all areas have been cut.
    9:06 Carving is complete.

    That’s a great device, I like the "classic" mechanical design, it seems to offer a great range of motion.

    Nice machine, but, this is 2D since you move the head/bit in 2 direction only.

    I am interested in your design... but I have to ask - what's the difference between the Clone 4D and the Clone 3D?

    • @jackdawinnovation
      @jackdawinnovation  Před 6 lety +2

      The 4D has a true vertical plunge action so can be used for other woodworking tasks. It is also counterbalanced using springs rather than weights. This makes it incredibly stable to use. More 4D features can be found at cloneduplicators.uk/clone-4d-design-features/

    The prop you made is for demonstration purposes I presume. There are knots in the wood and that is a real no no for propellers!

    Wouldnt it be easier to just buy a new prop? That's not laminated or balanced...and if you wanted to make more than one you mine as well get a cnc...

    • @jackdawinnovation
      @jackdawinnovation  Před 6 lety +4

      You're correct, an aircraft propeller should never be made from softwood. This one is only going to be used as a display piece.

    Awesome but almost 6000 dollars? Why wouldn't you just buy a CNC machine? Is there something this can do that a CNC can't? (I guess you can't necessarily copy things as easily, but CNC will probably be more precise?) Anyway, not trying to troll, just seems a little high to comparable technologies. Pretty cool idea nonetheless.

    • @jackdawinnovation
      @jackdawinnovation  Před 6 lety +3

      Not everyone wants a CNC machine. With a CNC router very little, if any, woodworking skills are needed to produce the finished article; it’s more important that the operator be skilled in CAD and computer programming than it is to be a skilled woodworker. This process removes the skill of the craftsman from the creation process. Unfortunately, this seems to be an all too familiar scenario of our modern world and is why valuable skills are getting lost.

    @flyinshu123 Před 5 lety

    After all that trouble, why not carve out a real prop. surely the plan wasn't to use a non laminated piece of knotted pine for a propeller.

    • @jackdawinnovation
      @jackdawinnovation  Před 4 lety

      This is just a demo video showing what the 4D can duplicate. The prop was never meant to be actually be used!
