      Grinder discs WILL NOT cut through fingers 😂

      Picking up a piece of 4’x10’ sheet metal in my shop poses a WAYYYYY higher risk of major injury than using a grinder (especially when you’re experienced with it..)

    Excellent basic idea, but looks like it needs some "tuning". Looks to me like it wants a bit more support (perhaps a few more "legs" on the rails the rollers move on, and some angle-iron on the carriage?) but aside from that, appears to do the job pretty well. Think I might try something real similar for a project I've been tinkering with for a while without actually getting quite what I was hoping for.

Por poner una nota de critica constructiva, la flexión de los tubos de sección cuadrada ofrecen mas flexión en la mitad del recorrido que en los extremos. Cross slide rails should have been rotated 45 degrees so they wouldn't flex so much under the router weight and you pressing down on it.
    Otherwise great simple design.

    • @rodschmidt8952
      @rodschmidt8952 Před 11 dny

      You mean the long rails? Or the short ones? Of course the long rails have a corner up (which seems like the least stiff configuration, am I not correct?) to keep the rollers from falling off.

    • @wheresmyskin
      @wheresmyskin Před 11 dny

      @@rodschmidt8952 meant the short ones. When watching the video you can notice slight flex in those short rails where router sits. It might come from the weight of the router or from pushing downward with your hands. But then of course this can be considered as "good enough" for hand planing later :)

    Great concept! Router/bit is too small to be practical for all but the smallest pieces. Think 3 HP and a 2" bit for a start. 1/4" shank tools are way too fragile for a tough job like flattening a slab Tube is too light, too flexible. Most woodworking benches don't have steel sides .... maybe rethink the mounting.
    Rollers under the tube is a wonderful idea!
