It has been months since we started the rebuild on the #wrecked #bmw #x3m but now it is time to tie up the last few faults, do the final fix up with some help from @NicoLeonard, and go for the first drive with the whole crew. But something was bound to go wrong....

One thing I've learnt from watching Chris and Matts videos, never go full send on your first road test, it never ends well.
It’s also known as common sense. Especially if it’s not tracking well, he could have ended up in a hedge.
How are you supposed to know you did the job correclty?
@@peek_bear by it not blowing up
@@superflyguy4488 Thats not how engineering and mechanics works bro. Even big companies fullsend their engines/cars moments after building them, for stress, power etc tests. Why? Because if it drives and handles well at high demanding power, it will surely drive well in lower power. But driving at low power gives little to no indication of what will happen once you start pushing it. AND anoother thing, if it breaks first drive it would have broken soon and it means there are faults you didnt account for( the main purpose of the first drive)
Point is you are checking for possible unfixed faults, not just cruzing around enjoying the ride. What is the point of cruzing thinking you are finished then weeks later it is back to the ramp. It is simply ENGINEERING and MECHANICS.
@@peek_bear Testing must be progressive, or things break as highlighted in this video.
If there weren't CANBUS wires going to the car side passenger seat connector, I'm presuming your car's original seats had just heating, as these seats come with an SM2 module for the driver, but just a linbus heated seat controller for the passenger. The original passenger seat movement controls would have been simply powered from the seat common fuse, with the adjustment switches working as switches directly controlling the motors.
The replacement seats presumably have ventilation, hence both have an SM2 module and the need for canbus wires to the passenger seat. SM2 modules, as you discovered, don't work without a canbus signal - the fail safe is to not move. The controls on seats with SM2 modules talk to the SM2 module using linbus.
There are different canbus circuits from what I learnt when fitting seats to a G21, therefore when doing something similar to you, I piggybacked the driver's seat canbus wires in the driver's footwell near the canbus terminator.
What I find fascinating is that they will try and save money by putting one single wire less into the passenger loom :) I can't believe that the costs of having to specify and develop a different wire loom are lower than actually putting one more wire into the loom :)
Correct, but the only difference here is in the F-Chassis vehicles any electric/heated seats would have individual SM modules requiring coding and CANBUS to function, unfortunately in the new G-Chassis vehicles the SM2 module only requires coding for the drivers-seat as this handles the memory and movement function, the common fuse would be used to power the seats but the seats fitted we're different from the original and newer including ventilation thus requiring CANBUS for full-movement as only adjustment worked not any moving functions.
Seats in the newer vehicles can be a pain including doing this on the G8X platform and confusing as KCAN High and Low are also in the mix now and not all twisted-pairs align with wiring diagrams/colour-schemes.... but they got there in the end.
Nico walks in and immediately pulls up just ONE sleeve to make sure his watch is on show 😂
Was enjoying it until Nico know it all turned up ………Why?
Nico is just appearing in everybody’s video trying to get clout!😂
@@user-vj5nq1fb6ghows he a know it all. He was joking saying he knows f*ck all
Really annoyed me icl hahaha
cant stand him, loud and obnoxious for no reason
Dips really the man💯
What a video... lol. Atleast the seat still works... can't wait for the next video..
Appreciate you dips ❤️ your the best

Chris, I am actually addicted to your videos, I love opening CZcams and seeing your video on the top of the page everytime. Please don't stop making videos
Absolutely love this channel as well. One of my favourites for sure.
Don't appreciate the click-bait thumbnail though. Not cool. 😐
@@NickB-1990what you on about? He drove it and it broke down. How is the thumbnail clickbait you dummy?
@Chris_Slix the crew you've assembled for these videos is second to none. I was hoping you would have had a "Bohemian Rhapsody" moment with the crew on the test drive!!! Keep growing your channel...we're all eagerly awaiting the next video!
Let's go. Here comes another banger. Looking forward to this. About time this simple little job was done. Stringing it out 😂😂😂😂😂😂 only kidding. Been a mechanic for 30 years and I wouldn't have took this job on simple so good on ya
From the beggining of this channel, allthough the hickup, this is huge huge progress, each time more amazed to see your videos 💪
Pleasure working with you Chris and glad to see the Sophisto Grey X3M on the road fingers crossed the electrical faults are resolved as the dreaded black cluster fault is never a good one....
Chris slix makes my birthday more cheerful thankssssssss!!!!!!!!!!
😃
Chris, I had the same problem with my M5 seats. I had to code the seats as a Vehicle Option and do some wiring to make sure the switches had power and I was tapped into the CANBUS correctly. Glad you got it sorted bud.
So close!! Great effort Chris and team! I'm sure you will work it out!
Love what you did with the wheels!! Looks amazing. 👌🏻
Another top video Chris, some familiar faces there pal, good luck!
Oh, I feel for you bro. Having electrical issues with my audi at the moment. Keep up the good work
Chris #SLIX you're going to have to BIG on the next build after this one!!! 😉👊
1:52 same here on
My 2011 3 series. Just one front and one back. Had to replace it even though it wasn’t worn.
All the way from South Africa, keep it going Mr Slix, love your channel
Dang……..Gutted for you Bro all the way from Malta….Cant wait to see it ripp
That really is such a shame that the car broke down after all the work that has been done on it. Here’s hoping that you get it sorted out and out on the road as it should be. Good luck guys.
Once you’ve fixed the flashing dashboard, Wanna do side by side drag race against the Alpina XD3 that you sorted for me couple yrs back 😎. Be good to compare the sisters!
Far and wide this channel gets. Shout out from Saskatchewan Canada
Thanks for taking us along for the ride! This is a great reminder that even the toughest projects can be conquered with some determination
Gutted for you Chris after the huge amount of work put into it. Hopefully its sorted soon. Keep plugging away
OMG what an ending, we need to know more... awesome upload.
Check the battery terminals and then make sure to register the battery to the vehicle. Seems the battery moved around when you floored it in Sport and a terminal might have lost connection.
Ethan's a legend 👌😂 pushing that beast with all you 3 in 😂😂 tank
8:10 the mirror that was replaced with the other was one that had the 360 cam option, my OCD has sent me wild and I can't unsee it! 😂
Chris can't wait to see the back of that car and it's wonky loom..enjoy the power good luck with it
Never rains but it pours lol it's a massive achievement, keep up the great content 👌
Almost there Chris 🎉🎉
This thing looks like new panel gaps are A1 😮
Btw the canbus and linbus wires are all linked and so if the wire was broke before the join point between the seat's then thats explain why one worked and the other didnt. Therefore joining the seats canbus was a pretty good idea, Dips to the rescue again 😀
I was thinking the same thing, theres continuity, power and ground. what else is there? CAN wires. If the CAN fails then it wont move forward or back.
@fl1xmeister699 linbus in mine is a 0.035mm² wire which is VERY easy to trap and break, even in the loom, and I had to do something very similar to this when I was working on a few things and snagged it 😂
@@tomahawkk yeah, they are extremely fragile wires and tiny too. VAG who I work for uses CAN for EVERYTHING, if one of the lines go down it can be a real pain considering they run throughout the vehicle.
Well done on finishing the x3 but fingers are crossed it’s new problems won’t push you over budget mate
The first thing I was going to say is dont boot it! Never ends well on the first drive you and Matt must have learnt this by now mate haha. Great build, really enjoyed this one mate 👍
There is no throwing things around when it goes wrong , it's let's get the mates round and try and work it it out 😀
I cant wait for the next built
Refurbished wheels look mint
Brilliant content 👍👍
Hi ...been watching ur video all the way from sa...big ups..try undoin the data bus from seat u probably overloaded it hence the databus is in limp had alot of issues like that or probably the broken databus wires for passenger seat is touching..wort the try
its crazy how far this build has come
Man what a bummer....hope/sure you will sort it. Look forward to up date. Best of luck. You got this shi
Absolutely loved this series of videos Chris, thanks very much 👍
This video was class. ‘Sport mode’ annnnnnnd it’s broken 🤣🤣🤣
Dips is also an absolute hero he’s so good! 💪🏻💪🏻 keep up the good work!
Dips is a hero !!! I’d follow dips if he done a rebuild channel to lots of knowledge in that man 😎
Hey Chris, we watch your channel religiously from Tasmania, Australia. The content is great, and you do a great job. I have done similar things to over 50 cars from auctions over here, but never made a video. You are an inspiration, and I am always looking. Just picked up a vintage 1975 Honda Civic not sure what to do with it. Anyway, how about trying a Mercedes SLK some day, a convertible would be great. Take care, James Mathew.
I got a similar problem with my F30, check the high pressure fuel pump and the ekpm3 module.
Could the brake sensor be somthing to do with left and right hand drive harnesses?
lol the ending was epic hahaha first last drive !
Lincolnshire is here ,,,, great build 😊
Great effort. Loved this build. One thing, why dont you take your obd with you in the car so you can literally diagnose straight away and potentially not leave yourself stranded? Always keep mine in the car.
Sorry to see it conked out, but on the up side for viewers of the channel we get another video 👍 but seriously I hope you get to the route of the problem, don’t give up, keep it real, your an amazing talent. That’s why I subscribe to your channel ❤
The sensor for the brake pads were like this on my e46 as well. They do this to safe on costs because it is easier to manufacture the same brake pads for all around the car. The sensor it self is nothing more then electrical short being created via the discs
Chris on Bmw's there is only 1 brake wear sensor on the front and 1 on the rear. Usually on opposite sides of each other
Mate 😢 loving the content. Looking forward to next vid.
The best things is to have a good electrician !
Hey Chris! Just watched video where you broke down. Sounded like it had popped a turbo pipe.
Dibs is so chilled he is never stressed 🤞
Haha... i actually was stressed.. im just a calm person and have a lot of patience..lol
Coding a seat. All it should need is a couple of wires to a motor ffs. Crazy.
I've broken down in the exact same place Chris. I think it's just the road mate, gotta be.
Been on board with you for a little while now. Love to see it! Does Ethan have a channel also?
Another banger
🎉 job well done gents
Chris please talk more about the od11 and how use it for the wide screen....
Nico is crazy 😂😂😂
Ethan is a bloody legend mind 👏🏻
South Africa baby🎉
my car doesn't have a brake wear sensor but the pads i buy still come with the loom I run EBC Discs and yellow stuff pads and I always snip the wire off
The brake pad sensor situation lol. All BMWs Iv worked on from 25 years ago have a sensor on the near side front and offside rear 👀
Big Eth is a beast 😂😂🚀
Ethan's the man! He did warn you!?
Dips is such a top guy ❤
He literally tried to warn you. “No no no!!!” 😂
Persistence pays, Chris - You guys will get it fixed :)
Just close the circuit on brake pad sensor?
This could be down to the valvetronic unit had the same issue changed it and was sorted
Big Ethan's had a haircut, looks less like Boris Johnson now hahahaha!
Oh dear but sure you will sort. 👍👍👍👍
What an ending 😂 looks good though 👌
Having to explain what a strut brace does to the watch man just shows how little most people know about cars
keep up with the good work my friend,I'll bet you its just a blown fuse
Dips is like the wire wizard he always works his magic
either a loose ground somewhere or something with that safety switch for the battery was weird it set a code even after replacing it
That ending caught me by surprise..
Really wasn't expecting it.. 😅
From South Africa 🇿🇦 ❤
Hey Chris, from across the pond! I do have a question for you. Will the OBD-Eleven work on my 2018 Ram truck? Thanks so much, and REALLY love what you do! I appreciate it he honesty! God Bless
At least you reached Humble Lane Chris.
Aw man. How are you not in tears mate 😅
The piece of mental going across the engine is called a strut brace!
Well done 🇿🇦
Looks awesome, just needs some fettling 😮
Well done, I bet that's a relief that it's finally done. But, do you ever regret taking on such a big job?
No way, its been the hardest but most rewarding thing i have ever done! Plus it has taught me so much 😅
Man. Like. Dips. 🎉
Chin up bro keep going
That one brake wear sensor works via Bluetooth to the Ecu
Last time I changed the pads on my van they sent two sensors but there’s only 1 on my van also mate
Proper house mechanics no real ramps and crawling underneath well done
Ethan power
Welcome to BMW life.
