Fully agree! I love the fact that Linus and company could really get and have anything in the tech space, but he stands behind a project like this for the same reasons I believe in.
They can only make so many build videos. Good to branch out to open source and maker stuff a handful of times per month.
You can get 95% of the functionality of smartwatch with a $30 fitness tracker that you don't even need to pair with your phone. If you really need to see texts on your wrist you can pair it but block all other permissions. There is a very real reason smartwatches are ignored by the vast majority of society, as well as a very good reason why despite that, these companies haven't ditched them. They send plenty of marketable data back to them without needing to be paired to your phone.

tracking heart rate with a wearable watch is a bad idea unless you want it so tight that blood wont reach your hands. most commercial solutions are often 10 but sometimes 20 beats per minute off!

Try a hybrid watch like a Withings or Casio. AFAIK Withings has pretty good privacy practices thanks to being European and hybrid watches look basically like a normal watch except they have some sensors too

the first title is for people who are already subscribed and the second one is for the algorithm. it's in every video.

Nostalgia: "It's time" was the print on the package of the original pebble (the kickstarter edition). In my opinion, these "cool tech projects" resemble the original pebble the best, with their hardware buttons and focus on long battery life.
