- Causative verbs are commonly used in everyday conversation and writing. That's why it's important to understand the causative structure when it comes to the verbs HAVE, GET, MAKE, LET, and HELP.
These are verbs we use to indicate that someone or something causes something to happen. In this case, the subject causes the action but does not do the action. And the way the subject causes the action is by paying, asking, convincing, forcing, or permitting someone to do something. Here's an example.
🚨 I try to GET YOU TO JOIN our email community.
I am asking you to do something, thus causing the action, which is joining our email community. And if you'd like to do so, you can click here: subscribe.interactiveenglishv...
At the end of the lesson, be sure to test your knowledge and take the mini-quiz at the end of the lesson.

Thank you so much for this wonderful lesson. Mind if I ask you a question? I've watched movies and I've come across a structure like: make/get/have + object/person "doing" something. Is this an informal form of what was in your video, 'doing' instead of 'do' or 'to do'.
Thank you in advance for a quick reply.

Hi Wes thanks for another amazing lesson! By the way as a Russian myself I just can't not to pay my respect for wearing such a cool T-shirt at home (eventhough Russian River Brewing company itself probably has little to do with Russia :))
Thanks for checking out the lesson. The brewing company is actually named after the river that runs through the area. And I'm not sure about the origin of the river's name. 😊

Does the verb "allow" fall under this catecory, ie causative verbs? Thanks once again.
Yes, 'allow' is also a causative verb. There are others as well. I think the five that I talk about are probably the most commonly used ones. 😃

Will you please do a video on non-causative verbs and the differences in meaning like have, had or having used for ex I had my purse stolen or we are have people coming or we are having friends come over or I had my mom calling me nonstop or I had my mom call me nonstop I think it’ll be very helpful for all the English learners!
¡Gracias!
Hi Manuel. Glad you enjoyed the lesson. Thanks for your donation and support. It really helps make all this possible. 🤗
I would like to request you to make a video on causative verbs and the passive voice. For example, what is the passive voice of the following sentence? "I help him solve his homework every day".

I am not a first English learner, but I don't often use English in my country (Japan). I have to keep up with English. So, I watched your video. I said, "I helped my friends to make dinner." Maybe English classes of Japanese public schools did wrong. oh, well
