  • Hey all!
    In today’s episode I share the presentation I did at the Reefster Coral Show all about aquascaping with Marco rock! This NSA style rockwork is something I am pioneering in Australia and Im so excited that more people are taking this style on board!
    Hope you enjoy this episode!
    Peace ✌️

    Exactly the technique I used on mine new aquascape. David did a great job in his previous videos on building his scape. Thanks David

    Very porous rock. My concern is that detritus and uneaten food will collect in the holes all over the rock. Thoughts ?

    How long does the rock need to dry/cure before adding into tank/water? Just subbed

    Tool hoarder problems:
    I wonder if I should use the cold steel chisel, or the dewalt construction chisel. We're certainly not using the fancy woodworking chisels.

    Just be careful Reefers as it is well known that Cyanoacrylate becomes brittle and breaks up over time in the saltwater environment (freshwater as well)...this is a great way of quickly putting a scape together but it must then be reinforced with a reef cement or putty to make it permanently durable and safe from collapse

    • @natalbreefing5934
      @natalbreefing5934 Před 3 lety +2

      I was thinking that too. I haven’t re enforced mine... a lot of other people haven’t done theirs either. Maybe in 5-10years from now there will 100 videos on scapes collapsing haha. I hope not.

    • @firsttimereefertv1588
      @firsttimereefertv1588  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks for the heads up! Ive been following quite afew people who have used this method and their scapes have lasted years without deterioration. Time will tell though 😊

    • @MicrobiusBlue
      @MicrobiusBlue Před 3 lety +1

      It will last for a time especially if the rock scape is not too gravity defying and would just naturally sit on each other, if heavy overhangs etc are created that would be the weak spots that will ultimately be of concern...many people think cyanoacrylate it waterproof (i assumed so myself in the past) but it is only water resistant, i read that the strength reduces with time underwater and after about only 500 hours it has already reduced to 80% of it's original strength, there are a a few very specialist cyanoacrylate that have Phthalic Anhydride added to improve water resistance and give longer underwater longevity
      The majority of Reefers these days probably dont run a tank long enough for it to become of concern before upgrading, rescaping etc...it would be more the type of reefer who sets a tank up and is happy with it for a couple of years or longer that would need to be very wary and take additional precautions taking into account cyanoacrylate's limitations
      As you say time will tell....just little bits of history repeating

    • @proteus5100
      @proteus5100 Před 3 lety +1

      Agreed, did you know salt is even commonly used to remove superglue from skin as it quickly reacts and makes it brittle and breaks it down within minutes, so it just can't survive the salt in our tanks
