@ Retro AP : Buskers are aware of legalities & recompense due to them. There's immense legals doing this..ie : money. Third Man Boss knows this & doesn't want the drama / legal / financial quagmire that may result. Other than that, it is a groovy idea.
+FXRPIONEER It's not a Crosley, They actually made those players themselves. There's only a few that exist and the ones that do were given out as promos to other local record stores when Jack White's Lazaretto "Super LP" was released. They gave the players to stores and a copy of the Super LP to give away as prizes for promotion for the album's release.
One of the main reasons crosleys are terrible is because they aren't calibrated properly and put too much weight on the record. It's possible that because TMR made this turntable it's calibrated right.
They are OEM. They can be Crosley, Ion, Traveller, even Philips but they have the exact same arm, platter, motor, anything but the case. They are just as horrible.
What a great concept/shop. Loved the Sun Ray vinyl 45. Can you come in and cut just a 45 for fun? Retro candy/pop would be a cool addition. I think the retro record player is part of the experience (sight, sound, feel). Love that scratchy sound from old recordings.👍
Got to visit when I went cross country in the Airstream...literally feels like the little room from the white stripes song...some serious nostalgia and cool re-treads in there...a must see for music fans ;) Also what you do w/multi Grammy winner and folk song hero cheddar ;) rock on jack n friends.
Very interesting shop. My mother made a Voice-O-Graph recording back in the 1950s, but such a recording booth is not popular now because people have their own recording devices. But I would enjoy doing a recording in a Star Booth, which mixes your voice with a karaoke track.
jeopardy60611 Yes there was a couple of arcades around 42st in NYC in the 60s that had those boots.i used to go there with my grandfather when I was a kid.I always wanted to make a record but he would say, OK next time we come here, lol.
Viva la Detroit! My town too and Cass, my high school too, twenty years prior to Jack. As per novelties, I was surprised not to see the dime streish recording booth. My daughter went there and recorded FELL IN LOVE WITH A GIRL in April 13. Is it working now, 2/14/14? Thanks, love to all
SLEEP & THE FCKN MELVINS!? I am truly fckn blown away. I'm frm Nashville Tennessee and never gave 2shits bout Jack White or 3rd man records, now I'm a fckn hardcore fan to the god dam bone! Man!!! They really stood the fck up with them 2 great SLUDGE, DOOM bands! I got fckn chill pumps. I'll be on the city bus rite b4 lunchtime. I gtta have them RECORDS!!!
With all due respect, this man seems to have confused his Blind Willies. Being from NE Georgia, categorizing Blind Willie McTell as a performer of Mississippi Delta Blues causes pain in my soul. His incredible talent, as well as other musicians who play Piedmont blues, are too often undervalued or even completely unknown to people failing to explore beyond the better known delta blues. Just needed to clear that up
Jay Katz & Miss Death of the Mu Meson Archives in Sydney had 2 or 3 Scopitone machines, which I think they donated but still exist somewhere in Australia, so sorry mate, you don't have the only one in existence.
Jack have you thought of moving south to the State of Louisiana where the blues is raw like your talent?? Lazeratto bought was not a great fan 😯 but not giving up on you.
it's been open for years. when i was there a couple years ago, i was the only customer in the shop for about 10 minutes, then a couple walked in and that was it for a random afternoon without an event. Oh and half of those cool machines were out of order lol Oh and the employees were super nice and helpful.
Mellotron baby...KING CRIMSON! *ps.whats up with the antiquated swastika?Do you hanker for a lil of the old in out in out with the mini moustached man who died with 4teeth in his meth laden head& mad as a hatter?I'll happily pin your eyes back while playing Wagner until you&the ol'Headcoat himself(oh brilliant Billy) think of a new kind of kick?
It's just a shop attached to the recording studio. 1000's of bands would NOT be allowed to record there, as Mr. White only wants authentic bands and none of that electro-auto tune crap. Third Man is also very dedicated to vinyl produced in America. There is more to this than a tourist shop, which it really isn't because vinyl is not cheap.
For the love of all things sacred pleeease!! play these records on a decent player. If you're going to invest in vinyl at least do it justice, gee this annoys me.
Third Man should do a series where they record some buskers performing around Nashville, Detroit, and wherever the bus is at and release it on vinyl.
Amen!

Wish I could just work at that place for the rest of my life. I'd be so content.
Ok I'm coming to Nashville
Count me in
Did you go
I love how he's playing all these on some crappy crosley

looks can be deceiving...

If it can sound good on a crappy record player then that's how you know its recorded well.
What a beautiful shop. I love the White Stripes and Jack is awesome.
Thank you Ben and all the folks at Third mand Record for keeping the music and vinyl alive!

oldschool65 yes retro candy pop! Haha meow! Love it. Vinyl for life!

``Smells like childhood`` delivered perfectly!
2:17 Okay...I think I'm in love.
She looks like if you asked her a question she would scoff at you...
Jack's music has been hit and miss in my humble opinion, but I really really appreciate that he appreciates old blues and folk music.
jason chastain i concur!
super hit or super miss
I like how when I thumbs down your post, it does it in jack white blue. How appropriate!
I really want that Third Man Record slip mat! It looks great.
I was in here just last week. It's so cool and unique.
Got to visit when I went cross country in the Airstream...literally feels like the little room from the white stripes song...some serious nostalgia and cool re-treads in there...a must see for music fans ;) Also what you do w/multi Grammy winner and folk song hero cheddar ;) rock on jack n friends.
You think Jack White wouldn't allow Crosley in his shop.
Its not actually a Crosley, just looks like it
He probably only allows it due to them being Third Man Branded
@@Cubby9196 it even has a magnetic cartridge
That girl!!! i'm in ♥
Who dat?
Thank you Ben and All The nice folks at Thirdman!
i love the melvins!
This the looks and the music reminds me of Bioshock :D Really really cool, I would definitely visit this place
Looks like Stryper did the decorating
1987 called and they want their Stryper reference back. Relevancy score = -10.5.
I need to visit here one day.
Very cool shop with cool stuff and really cool looking girls but err... Vinyl killing Crosleys?
Ouch.
When I was at the one in detroit I got a white stripes keychain and a third man zippo lighter

I want to go back there, I went before they added new stuff, I want to see & get more records!
Next vacation : USA, I really need to go at Third Man Records, visit and buyin some stuff.
wow i want to go

Very good stuff Ben, Thank you !
2:18 WOAH I was NOT prepared for that much pretty coming outta nowhere

Jay Katz & Miss Death of the Mu Meson Archives in Sydney had 2 or 3 Scopitone machines, which I think they donated but still exist somewhere in Australia, so sorry mate, you don't have the only one in existence.
Anyone know the name of the song that starts at the beginning? Thanx
Love The Melvins.
I just realized that Jack kinda looks like Orson Welles with this style of facial hair
ahhh ...vinyl heaven :)
yes! magic vinyl
More like hell, do you see those Crosleys LUL
This is heaven
That is so damn awesome!
Lovely
My holiday destination. ;)
Jack have you thought of moving south to the State of Louisiana where the blues is raw like your talent?? Lazeratto bought was not a great fan 😯 but not giving up on you.
That's awesome
Isn’t that Jeff Daniels?
Look at the thumbnail and thought it was the Puppet Master
Crosley? Seriously??
You should see what my Grandfather played his Charlie Patton and Blind Boy Fuller records on. Seriously.
not a crosley
melvins!
Is that the drummer of devila 666?
Crosley players don't have counter weights on the arms and will destroy your records, as they're set up to dig way heavy.
not a crosley
It's not a Crosley, but even if it was, it's a myth that they damage records. They're just cheap and don't sound good.
@@The_sinner_Jim_Whitney that recordplayer does not damage Records, because it has a magnetic cartridge
Guys: Thirdman Land... just droping the idea over...
Weird seeing Jack with a mustache!
song at very beginning?
I mean the kind of tradtional sounding one.
The Sheik Waltz by the Mississippi Sheiks.
Not reprinting the 2nd disc of Public Nuisance is one of the biggest fuck ups Third Man has ever made.
Melvins 😃😃😃😃😃
It looks great, but I anticipate crowds....lots of crowds...
nah i went down there last summer and for about 5 minutes it was just me then a couple other people came in.
it's been open for years. when i was there a couple years ago, i was the only customer in the shop for about 10 minutes, then a couple walked in and that was it for a random afternoon without an event. Oh and half of those cool machines were out of order lol Oh and the employees were super nice and helpful.
Surprisingly I was the only person In there when I went ..parking is a bitch...
Let it be known that I was there at Third Man Records and made a short video inside. Also, I was at the shop in Detroit. Let that be known!
Johnny depp and jack white are the same person! 😱
SilentDeaf Metal seriously though. Hahaha
Long lost love child.
I would like to submit an application please? I bet they get 100 per day...
You must have red hair...
Is that an assumption or a requirement? lol
give them a good injection of artists. originally people.
hey! a scopitone...a french invention ! ;)
by the way...french invented the music video...fuck you MTV ! XD
Mellotron baby...KING CRIMSON! *ps.whats up with the antiquated swastika?Do you hanker for a lil of the old in out in out with the mini moustached man who died with 4teeth in his meth laden head& mad as a hatter?I'll happily pin your eyes back while playing Wagner until you&the ol'Headcoat himself(oh brilliant Billy) think of a new kind of kick?
until 1,000's of bands make this their preferred recording place -
it just seems like a highly pretentious/expensive tourist trapeze.
Get off your ass and go see it. Your opinion will change.
I mean, you're terribly wrong but whatever
Crappy 80's record player : (
I just can't believe he's playing a record on that shitty player!
uhhh no
For the love of all things sacred pleeease!! play these records on a decent player.

Chaka Khan needs remastered! Nobody like her.
