  • One of the biggest issues for voters on Thursday (Jul 4)’s United Kingdom general election is the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. The continuing impact of Brexit, the COVID-19 pandemic, and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine have caused economic pain and inflation. CNA's Elizabeth Neo explains. Ben Wellings, Associate Professor of Politics and International Relations at Monash University, also tells CNA’s Asia First how the crisis could impact the vote.

    April 18, 2024. The United Kingdom’s 2022-23 cost-of-living crisis triggered the steepest rise in 30 years in the number of UK citizens falling into “absolute poverty” - and worse is yet to come.
    And Boris still pushing the war to continue..

    Why do you interview an australian interviewee when the topic is about UK voting? Shouldn't an British interviewee be more appropriate?

    A toddler stacking up blocks to build a tower needs 10 minutes time. But it takes him 1 second to swipe it down.
    To build a country takes decades. To swipe it down it takes months only.
    The conservatives were 14 years in power and swiped out the UK as we know it. The UK will take 50 years to recover.

      If you have 10 people earning 1 dollar, and 1 person earning a million, the average wealth is $90,910. Good enough for living, right?
      That's the wealth the UK has. The result of 14 years right wing government.

    Russia's economy is now classified as high-income by the World Bank.
    Russia's GDP grew 3.6% in 2023, with trade and financial sectors rebounding.

      Hitler's German economy was also doing well until about 1943. On paper. It was war industry, not real industry that is of benefit for the people.
