THE BEST PLACE TO CHILL IN ATHENS / Cape Sounio Resort - Greece

One of the most sumptuous archaeological sites of Greece is the Temple of Poseidon in Sounio, south-east of Athens. The Grecotel Cape Sounio literally clings to a pine-clad hillside with panoramic views over this ancient monument. Behind the hotel is the Sounio National Park, one of the few remaining green spaces in the Attica province. Below the hotel are two bays which can be reached via tunnels under the road. The buildings are designed as an amphitheatre allowing breathtaking views on the Temple of Poseidon and the sea from most guestrooms and public areas.

I slept under the stars at Sounion in 1970 after cycling from Athens. If this sort of high end facility which provides employment doesn't interfere or impinge on the environment and the sheer beauty of the historical landscape and monument then it is OK. I guess the Greek government will only allow very limited development here. But it's not for me even though I could afford it now.
