The coolest UP 844 video I've ever seen! I work on a railroad, and I've always wanted to run a steam locomotive. Unfortunately, I'm going to lose my job on the railroad, and my last day is Monday. I will blow the air horn on the trolley car to ceremoniously mark my final run. I'm getting a year and a half furlough that I'm told will become a permanent layoff. I've worked for 4 long years, and this what I'll end up with. I never thought the railroad company I work for would do that.
@@1940limited Thank you. My Superintendent of Operations tried to fire me over false allegations of derailing the train I worked on. My Mechanical Department Supervisor rehired me upon knowing that the allegations were false.
I love how Steve works the whistle, too. If I ever get to run a steam locomotive, I want to emulate Steve. I'll remember that technique on the whistle! :)
@BBVCorvettec62005 - Actually I saw him in Portland when 844 came here in September. Looks like he's shed quite a few pounds since this video was taken.
Back when 844 was well cared for by Mr. Lee and the Old Steam Team. Great Stuff!

Steve Lee working his awesome whistle cord magic as always
This man needs to drive the Big Boy 4014!
Steve Lee really knew how to get that whistle loud
Mr. Steve Lee: thank you for everything you did for UP steam.
Steve could sure get her up and movin, the man might have done this once before.
One bad ass train!

g bridgman does challenger 3985 have a whistle string like a whistle cord same as what 844 has
@@rileysanesh9238 Yes, UP 844, UP 3985, and UP 4014 all have the same type of whistle cord, as was the standard for ALCO steam locomotives.
Love the sound!!

Picture quality doesn't matter much. We got the sound and can see Steve pulling out that throttle! Great! :)
Up 844 blows it's original whistle
this vid takes the cake! If you have no subwoofer i weep for you! The quality of the camera doesnt bother me...im all about the sound!!! :) 5 stars!:)
AWESOME!!!! This is my dream!
Up 844 Texas 2006
what a great clip
If only UP let their steam locomotives go this fast now
Up 844 cab ride
I did put this clip on Trainorders some time ago.
First I thougt he would rip the throttle and the whistle off. No wonder 3985 is in such a worn out shape...
Wow Steve lee has gotten way to big lately....They should bring a Big Boy out of retirement and name it after him
Half right lmfao

Steve Lee....what did that whistle cord ever do to you! lol
I like his whistle technique!
@@1940limited I do too!
@@stuartadamsrailfanningvideos I'd run it like Steve if I had the chance, but don't know if I could do as good a job! :)
@@1940limited I would too!
when Steve Lee was making 844 move where was challenger 3985 in the video
3985 was back in Cheyenne. This video was taken near Hearne, Texas and 844 was the only locomotive on the train.
844jim does that mean 3985 is in for repair in Cheyenne like maintenance
@@rileysanesh9238 yes, repair and it may not be done for some time.
I like challenger 3985 better because I never got to ride her in Cheyenne frontier days for a long time
844jim does 3985 have a whistle cord same as what 844 had
Does 3985 have a whistle string like a whistle cord same as what 844 has
yes
just a tinsy bit of wheel slipping at the start.
Riding a dragon!!
I know the boss. :-)
Why is Steve Lee pulling the whistle on 844
Any number of reasons. Warning railfans to get of the track or else a road crossing ahead.
:D
:)
why is Steve giving it so much throttle???
He's gettin' down the line! :-)
I bet because someone told him to highball, and so he did.
He's movin on down the track! They probably told him to go for it, so he did exactly that!
That's just Steve Lee style :))
