What we ate on Family Reunion Day 3

- On day 3 of our family reunion, we had 갈비 로스구이 (Galbi Ros-Gui). The cost effetive way to enjoy this is to get short rib chunks from costco and cut it yourself. You have to cut and cook in a certain way so it's not tough. My sister is a master at this. You have to cut it not too thin but not too thick. Also must cut against the grain of the meat. Then, sprinkle black pepper as you cut (but not salt). You have to sprinkle salt when you grill only one side for the best texture.
Pre-heat your pan really well. Then, sear one side on med-high heat. Sprinkle sea salt lightly. Do not flip it or touch it unitl golden brown. Then flip and cook for only a few seconds and eat. For dipping sauce, just sesame oil, salt and black pepper. Then, make ssamjang (ssamjang recipe on our website) for lettuce wraps. If you have perilla leaves for the wrap, it's a bonus!

The chef eats beginning, middle, and end. We taste we taste. We taste some more, and it is eligible for serving. We enjoy very little at the end. But while everyone is eating, we are breathing in the fortified sounds of the people thoroughly enjoying the meal we created. We enjoy this moment most of all because it is indeed the most fulfilling portion of the meal. We get full off of your meal sounds, knowing we did well. We stressed so hard before creating this feast, and to hear the enjoyment upon the feast is absolutely the most gratitude and fulfillment we need.
The whole family has learned to eat it all in one bite. 😄

That's how Koreans eat ssam. You have to eat it all in one bite so you can mix all the contents (fresh lettuce, plain rice, flavorful meat, and salty ssamjang). It creates a tasty blend of flavors in your mouth that you can't get if you take multiple bites.
Who needs to go to a restaurant when you have this for dinner.😋😉
