As a proud Kiwi, (New Zealander), I can say with confidence, New Zealand is so very proud of Dame Kiri Te Kanawa. Yes, she may be a ONZ, CH, DBE and AC recipient... but she will always be our "girl", no matter what age she is! God bless you Kiri!
@@manuelveytia3961 Hi Manuel. So pleased to read your nice reply. Thank you. Not only is she talented, but Kiri has been a wonderful ambassador representing New Zealand for well over 50 years. My parents had the pleasure of meeting Kiri at a meet and greet after a concert in the 1980`s (Sydney Australia), and confirmed what a truly lovely and genuine person she really is. I lovingly recall a beautiful large print of the Kiri portrait painted by Raymond Ching hanging in our family home in honor of her for many years. She`s as beautiful now as she was then. Wishing you good health and music. Tony.

Due to better money, I have lived in Australia for the past twenty years and miss home terribly. (The South Island is truly majestic). Thanks for taking the time to reply. Take care. Tony.

One of the most classy performances of Rule Britannia that you are likely to see at the Proms.... from a real class act in the truest sense of the term
I'm an American but have English roots...and this resonates with me blood, it does. The mother country, the scepter'd isle, stirs me in ways I can't explain. God save the Queen!
The fact that you can see English letters and street signs in the middle of Shanghai proves that the legacy of the British Empire will be a permanent part of global culture.
From the British Isles up to the Canadian Arctic North, then south to the Falklands near Antarctica. From the west of Caribbeans to the far eastern Pacific Islands. There’s no other country other than 🇬🇧, shares a common bond, which her Britannic glory across the globe. Let Britannia forever rule the waves🌊
China ONCE had a great Navy but the Ming emperors essentially decommissioned it. Whose fault was that?? Not Europe’s! Japan, on the other hand, observed and learned very quickly. Remember the Russo-Japanese War when this Asian island nation humiliated Tsarist Russia !
Sorry to correct you but the melody is written by the baroque composer Thomas Arne and comes between the scenes of his opera Thomas and Sally ! Nothing to do with the disgrace that was the British Empire !
Sorry, but Brynn Terfel at the Proms centenary took the cake for me. Brilliantly sung, powerful, but with a joyous sense of cheeky fun in proudly displaying his Welsh patriotism with the ultimate tongue in cheek of singing the third verse in Welsh to peals of laughter from the crowd - made them sing the chorus twice as loud...😉! Rousing, fun and patriotic with a tinge of satire all in the same performance - lightning in a bottle...
There's something loathsome about Britain: the flouting of the hunting ban. That lowlives could enjoy seeing a wild animal being disemboweled by hounds is revolting. 😣🦊
Who doesn't love that sceptred isle, that precious stone set in the silver sea? Britain has given the world so much and been punching above her weight for centuries.

Britain was persuaded by an armed uprising during Easter of 1916 that the people of Ireland will never never be slaves either! ( But fair play to you Dame Kiri - well sung )
The Irish story is complex and certainly has very sad elements that most Britons are ashamed of. On the other hand, Eamon de Valera send condolences to the Nazi regime after Hitler’s suicide! Standards!
And not an EU flag in sight! Good old days! And NZ can be assured that Rule Brittannia refers to NZ and Australia just as much as it does to GB in my opinion.
Why do Britannia have to rule the world? What is their qualifications to rule the world. About 1200 years ago the norwegian vikings ruled Britannia. But they left it all in a mess. I hope that Britannia leave it all.
+Karl Fredrik Nilsen Not the world. The waves. At the time that the piece was written, England was the single most influential naval power in the world. Patriotic songs are what they are. This is a patriotic song for the British in much the same way that "God Bless America" is for Americans like myself.
Because no nation in the world can ever withstand the might of the British navy - EVER. Hell, we sneak up to American aircraft carriers in our submarines and surface within torpedo range just for laughs
