I found my self in this video at 43:39 and 43:51 as well as 50:15 I was only part of the radar crew. I was on the gun for the first record. Too cool to see this.

I caught my first thermal in 1965 long island N Y following a bird with a mini mambo for 30 min flight and now have telemetry in missouri and still catching them enjoy.

I'm a vintage era flyer 2 Windfrees an Aquila an Sr-7 and a delta flying wing that I designed back in the early 80's.
Still flying them all today!

Bought myself a beautiful Ready to Fly 2.5 Meter RC glider only to find out that I needed more licenses to fly it than a truck driver.
Just fly, no one is coming after you. There is no enforcement in most countries.

Great doc video. I have done a lot of flying, almost every type of RC planes but it is a bucket list dream of mine to slope soar, this was amazing and inspiring to say the least! I am building a plank right now in the hopes of hitting the slope soon and I have some other gliders as well. Are you the Paul that took a Radian and won or came close to winning a thermal duration competition against moldies? If so impressive display. I think you only moved the CG back and changed the horizontal stab incidence by like 3° sorry if it's not you... Enjoyed this doc very much! Happy RC'ing!
That was me - won the first day of the big Polecat ALES contest with my modded Radian against really good pilots. Won the overall with a Euphoria 4m the next year. The Radian has its limits!

Thanks for sharing this Paul. I'm just starting my RC journey late in life. I'm learning to fly with an Ugly Stik. I've discovered that I live near a great slope soaring site Eagle Butte, Washington. One I've accomplished learning the basics I would really like to try slope soaring. I'll be looking into your Dad's. Any recommendations for a good starter plane to get into slope soaring?
Mark N I’m so jealous, the Netherlands are flat as a pancake... If you want a good and easy to fix slope glider, check the mpx easyglider, its cheap, can be fixed with cyano glue and is gentle (and the e-version can also be used on flat land). Enjoy our fun hobby!

Most likely not. Dieter and I now live elsewhere. If some NW pilots were to step up, then maybe. Planes are faster now, and there is more danger.

Rc glider competition is ridiculous as far as the spot landing is concerned. It turns the "sport" into a jart game....... yea......at the end of your beautiful flight we want you to drive the nose of the plane 4 inches into the dirt on the mark for high score......RIDICULOUS.......who the fuck came up with this moronic move. It should be more like gymnastics competition.... must land on the spot but points are taken away for jart landings. Gliders are meant to land like gliders..... not like jarts......I personally would ignore the rule and take the loss. Mike...Whiskey November full size competition glider pilot and RC glider flier.
