Vintage Minimoa & Slingsby Petrel Formation Flight Over Harris Hill - ISVM 2024
Extremely rare, a 1938 Göppingen Gö 3 Minimoa and a 1939 Slingsby T.13 Petrel fly in formation over Harris Hill, New York, at the 2024 International Vintage Soaring Meet. Willy Hackett flies the Minimoa owned by Jerry Wenger and Graham Saw pilots the 1939 Slingsby T.13 Petrel which is part of the collection of the Western Antique Airplane and Automobile Museum. This Petrel is only one of two flying examples in existence and the Minimoa is the only one still flying in the U.S.

The Göppingen Gö 3 Minimoa is a single-seat sailplane produced in Germany and designed by Martin Schempp and Wolf Hirth. Out of only three built, Slingsby Petrel BGA651, the final aircraft of the series, remains airworthy in 2024. It was restored by its owner, Graham Saw. It flies regularly at Vintage Glider Club meetings and has been displayed at Old Warden on Shuttleworth Collection open days. When I was younger living in Hope British Columbia they had a old glider there that the Germans used to train their pilots in before World War II
WELL DONE! I love the decorated trains, unloading, turning the speeder to face the other direction and underneath shots. I will show this to my Dad who was part of NARCOA and proctored their safety tests for years.

Paul, great video series on the Orion, I’m a longtime modeler but this is my first dip into this side of the pool. You video is helping me with my first model in this class, it is the Orion as luck would have it. Question, you keep referring to “black CA”… is this just black colored CA or is there more to it? Thanks!
Black CA is a thick CA that has powdered rubber added to make the glue more flexible and shock resistant, good for gluing push rods.

Bought myself a beautiful Ready to Fly 2.5 Meter RC glider only to find out that I needed more licenses to fly it than a truck driver.
Just fly, no one is coming after you. There is no enforcement in most countries.
How is the vertical stabilizer/rudder held in?
There is also the tabletop veneer that can be used for control horn base material or rubberband support/wing control areas.

I chased NBER Tyrone Turn yesterday, that was fun. I will have my video on my channel soon. I didnt think the NBER did a fall run this year sadly. They hopefully will return next yr.
What the hell happened to Estes Rockets??? When I was a kid 50 years ago those rockets went WAY higher than they do now. Even with the lesser powered engines. Most of the rockets I had went so high you could barely see them even after the parachute would open. Well another case of everything being better back then but at the time we didn't know it.
Is it ok to fly the Radian as is using a 4S Li-ion pack and a throttle limit?
The ESC is only rated for 3S. The stock hub will not handle the increased rpms- Change the ESC, hub and prop, and Radian will be fine on 4S.
@@pnaton Perhaps I should make myself some 3S LiIon packs. My greatest concern is the motor: if it can handle the 4S current pulses. RPM's are easy to limit with throttle limiting and the ESC label has a rating of 3-4S.

Funny how random videos come across your feed. Fred Slingsby was my great uncle and I have paintings he did of his designs, handed down. A special man and even though I dont go gliding myself, I know he and his designs are deeply respected by those who do. Thanks for this upload. Beautiful, beautiful glider.
The Petrel is one of my all time favorite sailplanes. I never dreamed I would ever have the chance to fly one, since only two exist out of three built: this one (second one built) and one in England (third one built). Then this one was part of a collection of vintage gliders donated to WAAAM, where I am a volunteer pilot. I am so incredibly honored to be entrusted with this priceless jewel. IVSM 2021 was the first time I was able to fly her the way she was designed: away from the traffic pattern, in prolonged soaring flight! I think her handling, she flies better than she looks. She is incredibly quiet inside during flight. Fred did everything right on this design. From the Colonies, I salute you and your family!
