Having played for almost 20 years now, I look at cards in my hand I got out of packs back in the day and I'm like "damn, I still can't believe this lil cardboard is worth an entire new vidyagame at 60 bucks" but then I see these disgusting hands - that hand has an entire average American's yearly wage behind it - I have to question what the paper costs of these decks would be every single time. Stuff for trust fund babies.

Trinisphere is not as strong in Legacy as it is in vintage and is not that easy to cast but it is indeed strong and it is indeed easy to cast in the decks that use it.
I love trinisphere in red prison. Very good.
It would be flavorful if they made The One Ring restricted to just the one copy.

Do you mean like the rules for legendary cards from Legends to Ice Age where every legendary card was restricted to one copy per deck and If two or more Legends or legendary permanents with the same name are in play, all except the one that has been a Legend or legendary permanent with that name the longest are put into their owners’ graveyards. This is called “the Legend rule.” In the event of a tie, each Legend or legendary permanent with the same name is put into its owner’s graveyard. (If two permanents have the same name but only one is a Legend or is legendary, this rule doesn’t apply.)

Yea the one ring will probably have to be restricted in vintage sooner or later. Saw a game the other day from I AMACTUALLYLEVEL1 where opponent played a hollow vine deck and had the dream start (put 17 power into play turn 1) and still did not even stand a chance. Being able to untap the one ring with both voltaic and manmifold key played a big role. Think about it, you cast tap it draw one, untap it tap it draw 2, untap it tap it draw 3, that is already 6 cards, 2 ancestral recalls worth, and all you need is 2 of your 8 keys.
Getting protection from everything for one round can be backbreaking for aggro shops, bazaar, monowhite innitiative etc. In such a fast format opponent being unable to kill you for a whole turn and having to pass back to you is HUGE.
I'm not surprised that one ring is doing crazy things in vintage, or even legacy for that matter. I'm amazed it's not too slow for modern though.

Trinishphere is all over Legacy- lotus petal,chrome mox, baubles, mox opal, spirit guides, and sol lands make it happen turn 1 constantly when playing decks that use it.

I think it would be a flavor win and a balance win if the one ring had text on it that said you can only have one of it in your deck
stupid question: once you generate infinite turns, how do you win? by the opponent conceding? or am i seeing a way to convert the infinite turns into damage or milling or something?
Urzas Saga can make enough huge tokens to close the deal. Even then, Vintage isn't a creature heavy format so a single token would often be enough.

In Vintage, cards are usually restricted to 1 copy.
I think it'll be like Saga where the meta shifts to accommodate, but I could be convinced it'll get restricted because Vintage is too fast for the life-loss to care, and it gives protection for 4 mana if you play extra copies.
The meta can easily adjust. Sultai is extremely good against the Ring. Collector Ouphe and Bowmasters can close a game quickly.
I sincerely hope it gets banned period in vintage and edh as well. Card is beyond busted and is a great example of horrid and unbalanced card design.

Time vault + key for infinite turns, karn, creator + mycosynth lattice in the sideboard to lock your opponent out of playing anything, I imagine you just beat them to death with Urza's Saga constructs from there if they don't concede

I didn't think you could declare attacker if they have protection from you.
You can! Protection prevents targeting and damage, attacking doesn't involve targetting so you are free to attack even though it would usually do nothing
Moreover, if there is an effect saying "damage can't be prevented", you get damaged!

Since 1996, I have known that I should not play Type 1/Vintage, and for good reasons which were all on display here.

@@cousinpatsey2471 I thought the LOTR set was like completely separate from the regular game, I didn't think cards from it were legal in any normal formats like Standard or Modern. They certainly aren't legal in those formats on Arena
@@coledavidson5630 they're not standard legal, they're like another Modern Horizons set. Any format modern and older is legal for them.
The set is on arena because, well, it sells.

Weird....it's almost like there's a way to play a turn 1 Grim Monolith or something. Do you really think Legacy players would do something like that? Just dump a mana rock into play so they can Trinisphere on turn 1 and follow it up with Wasteland on turn 2 into Crucible of Worlds on turn 3? 🤔🤔

Tearing up every format?? You must be playing different formats than I because orcish bow master is the new hotness in vintage and legacy but I’m not really seeing the one ring
The Legendary rule has always been half-baked. If the in-game justification for Legendary status is that these cards depict singularly unique permanents, why are you allowed to put up to four of them in your deck? If it's Legendary, it should automatically be Restricted as well.
That's a nice way to make basically every legendary card essentially unplayable without tutors. You should at least be happy that the Legend rule was changed some time ago to let both players have the same Legend in play *and* that if you play a duplicate of your own that you get to keep one instead of losing both of them.
@@ForeverLaxx - A fair point, but personally, I'd rather pack four Legends and four Tutors than four copies of four Legends.

@@ForeverLaxx - Try searching Gatherer in Modern and Commander formats. Hint: they aren't always named "Tutor".
@@FallenStarFeatures Commander doesn't count. Everything is already singleton so your complaint about Legendary cards is moot. Second, there are no good Tutors in Modern except for Urza's Saga, Expedition Map, Chord of Calling, Eladamri's Call, and Stoneforge Mystic. None of these are typically grabbing Legendary targets outside of specific niche cases, and in those cases, there's generally only a single copy of said Legend in the first place because you never want to draw it.
Beyond that you have "dig" cards like Traverse the Ulvenwald which isn't really a tutor and isn't generally used to hopefully get a Legend anyway.
I don't know what kind of "gotcha" you thought you had, but perhaps you can try again with some kind of non-niche example.
I'll give it two weeks, maximum before it's banned. If it's not, it's just further proof of how far removed the company is from its consumers.

your logic just doesn't make sense homie. game 1 you say you don't want to force back to protect The One Ring and then die to an Atraxa because you wasted your force... then.... don't force back. Nobody is saying you have to force back. It's better to play the Ring to get a force out of your opponent's hand, if they choose to force, and you let their force resolve, because the ring isnt that important to you. cmonnnn

Couple critiques if you want this to be your job - no black screen segments where you are just talking & the final game was NOT interesting. Might have been nice to get the win but it actually added no content. If you are doing a league and want to show the outcome, sure. Just don't build it up as something dramatic. No sub or follow from me today.

THe one ring card is utterly broken and was one of the best examples of horrid card design and should be banned in vintage and EDH to. Doubt it will anytime soon since its new but I hope they do instead of trying to up the power level to match or surpass it as we go on. I do not want mtg to become yugioh. Wizards has shown a disdain for good card design abit so far but this card just wow.
