  • If you've ever wondered how I get my String of Hearts to grow long, full and lush, the secret is starting off with a nice full potted plant. In this video, we repot a few smaller String of Hearts together to make one nice, full potted houseplant.
    I wanted to recreate the one I have at home for the shop, unfortunately we couldn't find one that was already full and lush to begin with, so we combined a few of the smaller string of hearts plants together and planted them in one pot to hang in the shop.

    2 years ago I started with 1 cutting with a tiny tuber and 2 leaves. The first few months, it did nothing. After a year, I had one long string which I cut up and propagated. Now, I have a very pretty but still delicate looking, long plant and about 25 cuttings on water. Next year I'll have a lush full plant even though I always give cuttings away to friends!

    I am excited to see how this turns out, I bought a 2 inch pot that had 1 SOH cutting in Feb. It's has quadrupled and grown like crazy over this year, you inspired me to do the first propagations of it. I grew them out and planted 8 in tiny pot for my mom, put some back in with the mother plant and waited. Last month I took a few more cuttings and have been watching them grow, soon I will put them in with the mother plant.

I cut some stings, then water propagated and i got no idea how to pot them back to the mother plant. All i can think of is to repot the whole thing :P... or do i just like make a little hole and somehow fit the roots of the propagated string into there?

    If you tend to overwater your plants use a well mixed soil. That is, pumice, perlite, vermiculite, coal, orchid bark, cacti soil and any organic soil. Once I started doing so, I've never had a root rot issue. This might be helpful for beginners.

    • @CrazyPlantGuy
      @CrazyPlantGuy  Před 3 lety +1

      For sure. Key is just making it more airy to allow water to drain through nicely. I normally would prefer pumice over perlite as they are heavier and stay working the soil, where as perlite over time rises to the surface.

    I bought a big, beautiful 6” string of hearts and tried to give it the right conditions, but the top was very full and I didn’t realize it was in solid peat. I didn’t water it, but it came wet and by the time I figured out what was wrong with it the roots were gone. :( It is currently chopped up in propagation boxes and I think I will have plenty to make new plants, but they’re going to be short! I definitely needed to be more aggressive immediately when I brought it home and taken out of the soil. Everyone says to let your plants “adjust,” but two weeks basically killed my plant. I’m glad you got those out of the growers pots with too much soil why they were OK!
