Thanks for your classy remark. I'm a Razorbacks fan. Vermont has my respect. Catamounts are well-coached. Ryan Davis and Ben Shungu can play. I've lived in San Francisco for almost 20 years, and I was at Chase Center for today's game. Prior to the game people believed Gonzaga's height would give the Hogs problems. Yet, I love that Arkansas didn't let that perceived advantage affect the way the Hogs like to play the game.
I paid close attention to the game's 1st ten minutes. Even though the Hogs weren't making a barrage of shots they appeared poised, focused and locked in, especially on defense. ARK's defense wasn't chasing or lunging, and the D was making the Bulldogs' offense work for everything. And I sensed it could very well be the Hogs day, if they kept up the focus, tenacity and grit

All year long I've said that the Razorbacks are a feisty, physical, relentless, resilient and tough-minded squad that fights their a$$es off for all 40 minutes! And they appear to be playing well TOGETHER!

Why does Every team in the SEC top 4 get talked about in terms of tournament depth except for Arkansas??? Two years in a row that’s happened and yet Arkansas is the only SEC team left in the tournament…both times…
And elite 8 both times. Last year we lost to the team that won it all, and I feel like we were closer than either team they played in the Final Four.
You’ll notice a pattern of hate and indifference directed towards Arkansas athletics in general. They have two of the top 10 recruits coming in next year and no one talks about it. Softball, baseball, soccer, everything.

Thank you. I'm a Hogs fan who was at yesterday's game. Credit to Gonzaga for battling all 40 minutes. I'm glad it was a hard-fought, clean game that was decided by the players on the court.
@@reubenalvear1975 not sure I completely agree with your statement. Refs gave Chet 3 fouls that should not have been fouls. Nembhardt got tripped and no call. Arkansas stepped out of bounds and then dishes for a 3. Again no call. Not saying that’s the reason Gonzaga lost, because Arkansas definitely was the more physical team and deserved to win, but to say the players decided it is not completely accurate. Refs took Chet out of the game. Congrats though.
And Timme walked and hooked on numerous possessions that weren’t called.
The game favored the Zags, and the Hogs still won. It was 8-1 fouls in the first half and 7-1 in the second. Arkansas didn’t reach the bonus in the first half, and didn’t get to the bonus until 2 minutes left.

Yep. That's why the game will be decided on the court. I was at today's game. Hogs were locked in on D from the opening whistle. They were physical, feisty, tenacious and relentless, as they've usually been this season 😉

Yeah Gonzaga definitely had a rough bracket. Memphis was another very physical team that deserves to be seeded higher than 9. Arkansas got hot late in the year and probably could have been a high 3 seed or even a 2. Arkansas is better than Texas Tech all day.
People don’t understand how basketball defense works. Most people thinking zaga would win just think shooting is the only necessary skill to have.
This was a big time upset by Arkansas. They did a great job of getting Holmgren in foul trouble early and often and they have had live hands defensively tonight

These " juggernaut " record wise Gonzaga teams the last two years would easily have 4-7 losses in a power 5 conference.
To be fair. Power 5 doesn’t really matter when it comes to basketball. There are good teams anywhere that can lose at anytime.

Takeaways from this game. Arkansas' defense were too much for Gonzaga. Chet needs a year or two to develop because he did not contribute much in this game (struggled the entire game). Gonzaga really needs to move to a more challenging conference (wish they could move to the PAC-12 but they can't). The WCC is not a strong conference because Gonzaga doesn't frequently get battle tested in the regular season. They always fall apart when good teams from stronger conferences put pressure on them. Arkansas' D throttled Gonzaga and Gonzaga fell apart.

One of the best things about this win is that it made a massive amount of sports journalist, look like ignorant chumps. There are no basketball experts at ESPN or CBS.

@@bradychick6535 Because they aren't playing class C competition in conference anymore. Each game even in the early round is against a solid team that is battle tested. If it weren't for the few good teams they play in non conference play we wouldn't even look at them as being a legit title contender. And the only reason they get these games is because for those elite programs the potential cost of losing isn't nearly as high as it would be in college football.

I looked at this matchup and winced. Arkansas played absolute garbage against NMST I was 100% certain this would be a slaughterhouse. Then I forget that their defense is one of the best in the country. And if so, that’s the main reason why they won the game. Had they made more free throws and made more inside shots this would’ve been a blowout made by Arkansas. Impressive win

The Hogs played feisty, physical and tenacious v NMSU, and they were defensively locked in. Yet, they tossed up too many ill advised shots on offense.
I honestly believed Arkansas could beat Gonzaga if they played a decent game on offense cause I sensed the Hogs defense would once again show up. I marvel at the Razorbacks continual commitment to playing passionate, inspired, relentless and physical D 💥🔥 I am so dang proud of the Hogs!
I picked Arkansas to win in two of my brackets because, just like last year, Gonzaga was overrated this year! The Committee, CBS, and ESPN keep falling in love with Gonzaga and got it wrong again. Once teams get to the Sweet 16, there are no upsets in my opinion. Not surprised at all!!!

Gonzaga needs to do some soup searching or move to the Pac-12 because their weak conference softens them up and the second they play just decent teams like Memphis or Arkansas they have trouble winning or just straight up lose. I’ve seen for many years now and it’s the same thing each year, “great but can’t get it done in March”

Kentucky has won one championship in the past 20 years despite having some insane recruiting classes. They also lost to the 15 seed. Gonzaga would benefit off being in a stronger conference for sure, but I wouldn't say they are choking. Winning march madness is hard. Arizona may lose too now, to a team from a, 'weak conference.'

I’ve grown up watching the hogs since I live in nwa, but I’ve never understood (especially here recently) why the sports broadcasters and pretty much all of the sports networks hate the hogs. Even when we beat a good team people say “well I guess they weren’t as good as we thought they were.” No, we are just better than people like to give us credit for and I’m tired of people not seeing it.

Great defense by Arkansas and terrible decision making by Gonzaga. Gonzaga had all the advantages and couldn’t take it when needed. Typical team with ALL THE HYPE.

I am so dang proud of the Hogs!!!! Such a gritty, tenacious, resilient and relentless team that appears to be playing well together. Prior to the tourney starting I told a colleague that the Razorbacks could make a deep run if they shot about 40-45% and scored about 75 pts/game. Against Vermont the Hogs shot 43% and scored 75 pts. Against Gonzaga ARK shot 40% and hit 74 pts. I'll have to submit a resume to ESPN 😛

Hogs fan here - really gritty performance. Only the third time this season Gonzaga didn’t reach 70 points.
I do wish Notae would try to dial it back just a bit with forcing shots, but he means a TON to the success of this team. Williams was solid as always and Trey Wade needs to get some recognition. Phenomenal game.
Gonzaga continued to battle also. They just never really seemed to get comfortable but a phenomenal team nonetheless. They’re going to continue to be a tough program to face at this stage.

Gonzaga getting these number one seeds every year is a joke. They play in a cupcake conference and would have about 10 losses otherwise.
I’m not saying WCC is a top conference, but it was decent this year. Better than in the past. Not saying Gonzaga would not lose more than 3 games in another conference, but they always have a tough non conference schedule and do pretty good. They had a top 3 recruiting class and can play with anyone in the country. They just lack that toughness and rely on finesse. When they play physical teams they always get beat up. But to say they don’t deserve a number 1 seed is a little much. They never lose to a team outside the top 25 and beat who they are supposed. Made the national championship twice in the last 4 years. So you can make the argument that the WCC is a cupcake conference, but when you have Gonzaga getting to the championship every other year, then you’d have to say the bracket is a cupcake bracket too because they have the best record in the tournament since 2017. They just got out played by Arkansas tonight. Hats off to a great program and I hope Arkansas can keep it going.
Playing only 3 nonconference tough games will not cut it either.

Jd Notae got into a bit of a shooting slump close to th end of the season, but I seriously feel like had he played like he did in the beginning through the middle of the season, they seriously had a chance to win the title
Eric Musselman is THE BEST COACH IN THE COUNTRY PERIOD. Argue that! You simply CAN’T. Arkansas should give him a lifetime contract and Arkansas will be the next super power college team for the next 15-20 years.

I can’t be the only one who saw this coming, Gonzaga could hardly handle 16 seeded Georgia State for 35 minutes of the game, and almost lost to Memphis. Gonzaga proving once again that they are overrated.

Yep. Hogs fan here. I was at the Chase Center for the Arkansas v Gonzaga contest. No disrespect to the Bulldogs. Yet, the Razorbacks were the more physical, aggressive and tenacious team. And the Hogs made more plays down the stretch.

Arkansas realized the refs would let them play physical ball, and they just manhandled Gonzaga.
Hogs fan here. I was at Chase Center for the game. After the game's first 10 minutes I sensed it could be the Hogs' day. Arkansas looked very focused, physical and tenacious in their half court defense. The Razorbacks were very dialed in and making Gonzaga work for every bucket.
Watched every minute. Each team well matched with one another. Gonzaga couldn't hit the shots most needed and it caught them in the end. Ready for the next level the Eight!

Why does anyone even consider this an upset? Gonzaga is nothing more than an above average team in one the the worst conferences in the country. Like what? They don't play anybody all season long......every year. I took Arkansas on the ML at +550. Duke will be the next bad team up out of here.

I hope Anthony black was watching this game and does an intelligent analysis on it. He is between Arkansas and Gonzaga for his commitment. Musselman and staff can develop him much better and he will play against much tougher competition day in and day out and he will be better prepared for the NBA if he goes to Arkansas.
