This episode features fish from 3 families in the order of Tetraodontiformes, pufferfishes (Tetraodontidae), boxfishes (Ostraciidae), and porcupinefishes (Diodontidae).
First we meet the blackspotted puffer, Arothron nigropunctatus, the most common pufferfish in the area, followed by the map puffer, Arothron mappa, at High Rock in the Mergui Archipelago. At Black Rock we encounter the blue-spotted puffer, Arothron caeruleopunctatus, and in Thailand we meet the largest pufferfish, the starry puffer, Arothron stellatus.
Next up is the yellow boxfish, Ostracion cubicus, as we trace its development from cute juvenile to adult. At the Similan Islands we discover the fantastic coloration of the whitespotted boxfish, Ostracion meleagris. And during a night dive at Thailand's Boonsong Wreck we meet the weird horn-nosed boxfish, Ostracion rhinorhynchos.
Finally we take a look at the 3 common porcupinefishes in the Andaman Sea, the spot-fin porcupinefish, Diodon hystrix, the black-blotched porcupinefish, Diodon liturosus, and the long-spine porcupinefish, Diodon holocanthus. We learn how these species, like pufferfish, swell up into a ball when threatened.

The video was shot by Nick Hope with a Sony VX2000 DV camera in a Gates housing. It was edited in Sony Vegas Pro then deinterlaced with QTGMC and upscaled to 720p HD in AviSynth.

It's a deinterlacing script that runs inside AviSynth. If you Google "Vegas CZcams Vimeo" you'll find my tutorial on my bubblevision website. It's quite complicated to set up a workflow but if you're shooting interlaced footage it gives great results. Also important for this current series was grading the footage with colour curves in Sony Vegas Pro and using Spline36Resize, which is a good resizer, for upsizing to 720p.

They say porcupine fish are different than puffers, but the porcupine fish is a species of puffer!

By "puffers" I am referring to the family Tetraodontidae, and by "porcupinefishes" I am referring to the family "Diodontidae". They are different families within the order Tetraodontiformes. They share many similar characteristics and I suppose some might refer to porcupinefishes as "puffers" because of their ability to inflate their bodies with water, like Tetraodontid puffers.
