The reason the Independence Day explosion was so low budget was that it was just a recording of a real fiery blowout. They set fire to a small model DC and recorded it zoomed in and sideways, so it was a real explosion in miniature but no CGI involved.

It's a classic case of boomer overhype. It's like the Billy Joel song that talks about Marilyn Munro and Kennedy. Boomers love things that talk about stuff they remember, so that song becomes a "classic" even though it's basically just a novelty song. Similarly, Forrest Gump, which is a good movie but not a masterpiece, gets overhyped because Boomers go "hey I remember that stuff!" and then their kids hear about how great it is and blablabla. So now the pendulum swings back were people say it's trash to compensate.

@@jpryan90 I literally watched it yesterday. That's the only reason I feel confident in this assertion. It's the last scene of the movie. That's why morpheus said "soon you won't have to" when Keanu says "you're saying I can dodge bullets" because he stops the bullets
Actually I've just been informed that the final scene of the first one was recreated in matrix reloaded and the only difference is the background because he was wearing the same glasses and trench coat but in the first one it's a dingy hallway and in reloaded it's like a large lobby or something
