    Cold air intakes are awesome, and a good cheap performance mod...problem is without protection its just sucking the heat from ur engine and that's counter productive

  • @ToGrimmToWin

    if you don't have a heat shield wall around that cone filter its a hot air intake. its not locking diffs fyi.

    • @JordanJank
      @JordanJank Před 4 lety +1

      Yes it is does have locking diffs. Not in auto, but any of the snow, sand, mud modes -_-

      Brake lock Diffs.

    Sounds great. As long as you didn't void the warranty, it's a good budget upgrade. The stock intake is designed to keep hot air and water from getting in. It's still a Jeep. It's going to get wet. You should consider building that air filter into a snorkel system. Also, it doesn't have locking diffs. It uses a brake based traction control system to change which wheels get power. You can tell because it doesn't do that frog hopping thing around tight corners like trucks do when diffs are locked.
    They made them in the US starting with 2015.

    Feeding Hot air can't be good overall! There's a reason auto manufacturer engineers isolate air intakes the way they do!, I'd like to see a dyno test before & after! I'd like to see because I have a 16 Rene trailhawk.

  • @cflowers69
    @cflowers69 Před 5 lety +9

    Sigh. Do people just not understand the concept of a filter sitting in a hot engine bay? That setup is NOT going to better the performance.

    • @benjaminschutz727
      @benjaminschutz727 Před 4 lety +1

      It would be a lot better if he ran the air filter to the cab, nice cold air conditioned air

  • @skiboatm
    @skiboatm Před 3 lety +3

    The K&N filter is a significantly worse setup than factory... shoulda just gotten a K&N drop in filter and kept the stock airbox that keeps your temps lower and offers you fording protection

  • @ghostrider2664
    @ghostrider2664 Před 3 lety

    Bad idea dude. I made this mistake on a Subaru I used to own. Hot air = word performance. Not to mention the ECM is going to need recalibrating with that mod. I see the comments aren't positive and I completely agree with all of them. Also, oil that filter.....
    I have a feeling that intake box is going back in there before too long....

  • @Catman1798
    @Catman1798 Před 5 lety

    I’m no mechanic but do we have to change out the oil from that rear crank case thing for the 4 x 4 renegades like on Jeep wranglers. I’m assuming they call it crank case?? I think I saw it in your video silver color and it looks nothing like what wranglers have. Or is it called differential case etc? I heard that if you go through high waters you should change the oil in that case. I think I saw a drain hole in your video while you showed the exhaust installation areas. Btw your upgrades seem like a lot of work lol. Can you do it for me instead? Lol. I have a 2015 Jeep renegade trailhawk. I researched upgrades like yours and I heard mostly we shouldn’t do anything like this. I would like to beef up my little guy though. I’m just wondering why that crank case or differential case doesn’t looks like what wrangler have and the renegade is a 4 x 4 so it should have it right? It doesn’t hang low to the ground like on wranglers. You usually can see it when you are on the road. And on my renegade I can’t. Like I said I’m no mechanic or know the terms etc. I’m just reacting to what I heard about high water and we should change the oil etc. in your video I think I spotted that case thing. I havent seen it on my renegade the few times I looked under. I must have missed it. Thanks for the video fellow renegade owner.

    • @daveyoung465
      @daveyoung465 Před 3 lety +1

      Crank case is inside the motor. Are you talking about a transfer case? Rene is more of an AWD setup no 2 speed transfer case like in a wrangler

  • @jamesflores9456
    @jamesflores9456 Před 6 lety +3

    hot air intake... derp
    the radius-es are not 2.5 you can see the inside of the bends where its crimped for lack of a better term

    • @TTATurbochargeThemAll
      @TTATurbochargeThemAll Před 6 lety +1

      James Flores drive your car for 20 plus minutes, open the hood, feel the heat. No getting around it. Might as well make more efficiency from it all.

    • @jamesflores9456
      @jamesflores9456 Před 6 lety +2

      yeah there is getting around it... grabbing air from outside the engine bay... through the inner fender (which is how most cars do it )
      air has a pretty poor thermal efficiency (which is why a/w inter coolers yield cooler air vs an a/a inter cooler) as it travels through the intake (for an old school 350 at peak hp) at 300 fps it wont pick up heat
      think when you pinch a candles flame and lift up... you dont get burned because not enough heat transfers for you to feel it

    • @jamesflores9456
      @jamesflores9456 Před 6 lety

      now hot air is less dense so less air going is less fuel needed for stoichiometry the less fuel you use in theory... unless you compensate for the decrease in power with more throttle

    • @TTATurbochargeThemAll
      @TTATurbochargeThemAll Před 6 lety +2

      James Flores the factory cool air duct is still there, I just added a free flowing air filter. Look at my video of the 2014 f150 on the dyno with my intake and exhaust. Makes way more power at the rear wheels than even f150 ecoboosts. With even more mods than mine. 392 rwhp and 526 rwtq.

    • @leewyrick5233
      @leewyrick5233 Před 6 lety

      @@TTATurbochargeThemAll dyno the jeep.its not pulling air from outsode the engine bay, its pulling hotter less dense air and getting less oxygen to burn, therefore less power.just build a box or heat sheilding

    • @TTATurbochargeThemAll

      Always ask your specific dealer first. Every place is different. The way I set it up, it is real easy to take off the K&N, install the stock filter in the lower box, then install the top filter cover, tighten the clamp, and done.
