- My Dad calls me up and says he has two tickets to see Guns N Roses in Florida. I tell him if I'm gonna fly all the way there from Montana we are going to do some fly fishing, so we link up with guide Paul Ray to hit the Everglades for some absolutely insane tarpon action.

This is one of the best tarpon trips footage I've seen. And conditions were perfect. So awesome you got to share it with your Dad.
Its pretty incredible when it all comes together and the stars align. Once in a lifetime trip no doubt!
Love how enthusiastic your guide is. He gets more of a hoot when you hook a fish than you do!
Lol! His stoke level is high. I was just trying to keep it together so I wouldn't lose the fish 😂
Thanks for the memories.... In my 70's now and grew up down there, fishing Flamingo. My grandfather fished it before the road was paved going down there. Moved to north-central Florida in 2004 and miss my days down there more than anything. Being there is almost spiritual, it peace and tranquility is beyond words. This is the best video I have seen fishing for tarpon and snook there. I could feel it, smell it, the wind in my face, just awesome. Glad you and your Dad got to experience such a special place.
Some of the best footage of tarpon rolling I’ve ever seen. If this video doesn’t get you pumped for tarpon season, then nothing will. Awesome video!
Best tarpon footage I have ever seen, amazing!
Thanks Jeremiah 🤙🏻
Although I have to confess you guys do pretty good just the way you're doing it. Awesome video work I'm a subscriber now can't stop watching your videos
Thanks for the sub! Glad you dig
Dang that vid smacked dude fishing season is done here guess I will just have to watch all your videos to compromise 😂
Thanks bro, please do! 🤙🏻
That was sick! I haven't ever watched more than Tarpon clips, and this definitely has me more intrigued. I definitely know who to guide if the moment arises!
Glad you enjoyed! Tarpon are a species that every angler should experience in their lifetime. Paul is your guy if you want to find the big ones!
Look at the fish under the boat at 14:13.. whoa
Amazing video bro!
🤙 pretty insane to witness that behemoth up close. Those fish could be aliens
Unreal video brother - As a fellow Montanan, sometimes I thirst heavily for some saltwater action! Thanks for posting hoss
Thanks for watching!
@@PhelpsontheFly dude you replying is so fuckin hype - I live in Missoula and I am great friends with Dylan Curley and Connor who you know. We should all go hit lakers soon. We are gonna go hit mission lake next weekend. Stay frosty out there legend and thanks for all your work on this content - this shit is top of the line

Insane shots, awesome b-roll, and all with you dad, best video I’ve seen in a while
Glad you enjoyed it 🤙🏻 super stoked to experience it with my pops
This video deserves way more likes. Nice work brotha!!!
Yo just thought I'd add a comment I know this is an older video. I lived in Miami for over 30 years and I went to the keys to a seminar that Stu Apte was putting on when he was still alive Stu caught some of the biggest tarpon records on fly ever and I'll never forget the one thing he told me is how he turned them to bring them back to the boat. He didn't lift his rod in the air he put his fly rod down in the water to turn the tarpon under because of the way their skeletal structure is
Stu Apte is a legend. Makes total sense
Outrageous.
Dude, that was some insane action you and your dad got.m to enjoy! Super sick trip, thanks for sharing this, definitely on my bucket list now!
Glad you liked it man! Trip of a lifetime for me. Doesn't get much better!
Never cease to amaze me Will! Such a great vid, within I was there with you. Cheers!
Thanks Preston! Thats really the goal, trying to put the viewer in my shoes to experience it with me 🤙🏻
insane footage is right! Awesome video...thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
I fly fish for trout in Montana, Idaho and Wyoming but nothing is quite as thrilling as fly fishing in the salt. Theses fish kick ass🎣
Freshwater is fun, but when youre hooked up to a 100lb fish that goes airborne... just a whole different level!
Such a great video and great fishing with you guys! I hope to see you in Louisiana one day to really have some fun!!
Thanks for an incredible experience Paul, I hope so too! I can only imagine how rad it is down there, might have to make a sequel...
We’re headed to Florida soon. I wish I would be fly fishing for tarpon. Awesome video. We are doing a half day spin fishing charter out of port canaveral.
Good luck down there! Still sounds super rad. Gotta love just getting out there
Badass video!
Really great video. Enjoyed watching from your point of view (you stayed really steady!). What a great way to hang with your dad and have this experience together.
Your dads second fish had one serious coddle padunkle.
I love it! Jammin to a little China Grove reeling in that sea monster! Awesome work brotha. ✊🏽🏆
Thanks dude! Such a fun trip
Awesome!
So sick. Love a father son fishing trip. Can’t wait to get out with my dad soon.
Thanks Bo, nothing beats being on the water with your pops.
Great video
Great job on the video guys, well done!
Thanks man! 🤙🏻
Great Video Will. Where did you stay? ENP is a special place.
got to love when plan after plan comes together! amazing job
INSANE for sure! Thanks!
Nothing like the mosquitoes at the flamingo boat ramp
The "chasing poon" comment got me lol
This is incredible. May have to book a trip with Paul with my dad, as well.
You had a 52min fight with a fish? ??
No way!
You’ve been holding on to this footage since October! Why? Fun seeing you go out with your dad tho
To right! William’s schedule is so busy now I’ve been on pins and needles waiting to see that…What a great job he did filming! I guess you knew that Guns N’ Roses concert was in October huh lol
lol I wanted to get the vid out sooner but had to put some time in to make the edit top notch. Gotta do the footage justice!
This is what i want to see.. Very big tarpon good size more than 10 kilo... Amazing non stop bring your line far away... Nice job..
AWESOME GUYS 💯❤️🐟🐟
Love ur videos!!!
Glad you like them! 🤙🏻
That's awesome bro Godbless you and family
Awesome video well done
Awsome stuff. Def. planing a trip someday, although it's a long ride from Europe. Anyway ...
The only thing which is sad, is the fact that a rock concert with sweaty, stinky and nasty metalheadz squeezing you, is not possible in these days anymore.
Good old times ...
Socially distant rock concerts aren't the same anymore. Sad but at least we can still jam out on our own lol
@@PhelpsontheFly haha yeah 🤘🏼😝
This is absolutely epic.
How were those knuckles feeling? lol.. that sounded painful. Well done and great video!
Awesome video!
That is awesome!
What kind of line are you throwing on that Loomis? You were zinging it!
Thanks man! I’m not sure but I think it was Airflo
This is awesome!
whats that swimming past at the bottom of the vic there at 00:16 ??
Awesome 👏
Is your dad Robert Doback from Step Brothers?!? 😂
I caught one half the size of those fish you guys got and it whooped me
What was the best fly that worked for you ?
That's right, straighten the rod against the fish when it jumps so you remove the entire action from the rod, a bending rod is a LOT smoother to the hookset in the fish than letting it jump entirely on the reel...
Have you ever heard of “bow to the king?” It’s pretty standard in Tarpon fishing.
@@PhelpsontheFly yes it is but i am however not so sure how important it is since letting the fish bend the rod IS softer for the hookhold and the leader and the mainline etc...
@@MrKveite1 I disagree. When the rod bends, you are increasing the pressure on the hook. It is like loading up a spring. By physically bowing to a jumping tarpon, you are relieving the pressure on the hook. I assure you that any experienced tarpon angler would agree that you bow to the king.
@@PhelpsontheFly so you mean no give anywhere is better than a give. oh well and i dont thin experienced tarponfishermen KNOW becaus they have all heard that and done that since they hooked their first tarpon and do as told by defaulth....
@@PhelpsontheFly well another thing for u, u can MAYBE load a 11-12 weight fly rod with 8-9 pound of force when it's bendt but when it's straight u use all the force on the break of the reel wich would normally be a lot more.
What fly tackle do you use for tarpon?
What reel was that on the 11wt?
Tibor
What camera was this shot with?
Canon R5, C70, and GoPro Hero 9
Chasing big poon will wear you out...
