My air compressor had a leak and kept powering on and off. I pulled the compressor and found this! I was about to order a new check valve but I was able to fix it by tightening the coil spring on the seal side of the compressor.

Hey man thanks for this video, I had the same exact issue . The nut was leaking and almost finger loose, tighten and perfect. My Central Neumatid is also 20 years old 😊

Hey, thanks for showing me that I have the 10 gallon version and I recently turned up the pressure but when mine gets up around 145, 146 it will bleed off to 140 so with your video, I took mine apart, stretched out the spring, and I put a washer in there to increased tension

As ling as you have it apart, make sure the rubber gasket isnt cone shaped. If it is either replace it or sand it down to cylindrical shape. The rubber absorbs water and swells over time so it gets stuck and lets air out.

Two minutes of sanding it “round” and it works as it should. thanks

Dude, where is your unloader tube? There's nothing attached to the pressure switch where it goes, and your unloader port at the check valve has a plug in it. The compressor is supposed to hiss off pressure in the charging tube to make re-starting the compressor easier for the electric motor. That fan isn't doing much good without the ductwork covering the top either. Expect a short life for your compressor.
I suspect someone deliberately loosened that check valve cover to compensate for the tube's absence.
