  • Got questions about how to memorize the Psalms of the Bible?
Great - then buckle in for this free Magnetic Memory Method training. I recommend you take notes and dive in.
The Psalms of the Bible are very cool to memorize because there's a nice clean number of them. Plus, you can use a special technique that will exercise your brain in a positive way.
    2020 Update:
Recently a student of mine memorized 66 Psalms using a slightly different approach. I interviewed him about it here:

Also, I've recently memorized a large amount of Sanskrit scripture from another tradition. Here's a demonstration video with ample discussion of how to apply these techniques for memorizing scripture:

Hi. I'm memorizing all the psalms and have memorized 35 so far. I have my own way of doing it, though...

Great. Do you have any videos describing your process?

Hi there Ivan. I've just started to memorise the psalms too. I've got four down but 119 is one that I'm attempting I recite it, or rather, pray through it twice each day. I hate to say there's nothing of 119 going in though so I've decided to simply go through it every day for as long as it takes. Any tips?

@@andrewboyddotcom, thanks for your post. Since publishing this video, a student of mine has done 66 by altering the method a little. We recorded a conversation about it. I'm going to update the description to this video with the link to it in a few moments. Please stay tuned and hopefully Ivan will also chime back in here. That would be great.
Any other memory goals you have? :-)

@@AnthonyMetivierMMM Hi Anthony, almost done listening to your vid but got all excited when you were describing your website. Not only have I started memorizing Psalms 119 -- and I too am being very challenged to memorize more than 8 or 10 verses -- but got twice excited because I also homeschool and this would be great for my children.

@@lourdesm.velandia-calderon3486 Thanks for this. If you'd like even more excitement, here's a recent interview with one of my students who memorized a TON of Psalms by adapting my teaching in a particular way:

Hope it helps you out and please do share the knowledge with your children. The compound interest over time will be immense.

I'm not yet familiar with the colour code, will certainly check it out. It did trigger an idea,though....... I have a memory palace that is very dear to me. It holds stations that are burnished in my mind. What if I used it for my Russian vocabulary and use it several times but in different colours e.g. red for verbs, blue for nouns....etc. ? Could it work, or is it not such a smart move ?
I can recommend the Master Class to everyone ! It 's really worth one's investment in every way. And great fun at that! Grtz Patricia

Thanks for this, Patricia. The fullest treatment of this technique is in the Mastermind and poetry parts of the Masterclass. I'm so glad to hear that you recommend the Masterclass too. It's an honor! :)
Color-coding for parts of speech and grammar concepts could work and is something to experiment with once you've mastered the basics. The only issue I can see coming up is that re-using Memory Palaces for like information raises certain challenges.
The way people typically reuse Memory Palaces in language learning is for separate, rather than the same language. So if a blue Memory Palace had German nouns, the green would have French nouns because German and French are sufficiently different to prevent bleedthrough (or "borderblur" as the Canadian poet bp nichol might have called it - I'm not being lazy with his name, by the way. That's often how he presented it in type).
In any case, each person needs to try these things and see what works. But generally it's a good rule of thumb to make sure that the information is sufficiently different.
The exception appears to be poetry, but I am relying on the fact that the MMM has been used properly by the memorizer to get the first layer into long term memory first before replicating the Memory Palace.
Hope this helps and look forward to further thoughts! :)
