It's not difficult to have great industrial power, if you exclusively fight offensively literally everywhere else but home, so your industry doesn't get decimated twice in the same century.
That sounds difficult
It really helps when you don't have the heartlands of any other major power within bombing distance of your heartlands.
and have basicly most if not ALL industrially relevant resources in SOME quantity and capacity within your Nation's borders.
& now its all been outsourced.
Also I think we did well to foster mutual respect (mostly) among the many states that make us up, to avoid conflicts.

Lets be honest if there was a place where you could go and see all the wonders of the ancient world recreated in real life in the correct size would you not want to go there? Like pyramids in their ancient form with the limestone exterior, a colossus of Rhodes, the statue of zeus etc. I mean the great wall obviously wouldn't be possible but the rest you could. Like instead of travelling all around the world just go to this 1 place and see everything. I think the closest thing we have is Vegas.
The issue with that is that archeologist often change their opinions on how things looked. So there had a lot of remodelling to be done.

5:23 That 17 to 1 ratio is only true if you only count American deaths vs Vietcongs and all of their allies' deaths. If you count American, South Vietnamese and all of their allies' deaths vs Vietcongs and all of their allies' deaths, the actual ratio is 1.5 to 1. Not that impressive considering North Vietnam had no air force and got bombed into oblivion.
North Vietnam had a modern air force/air defense system, and was not bombed into oblivion. Yes, Operation Linebacker hit them hard, but most of the bombings were aimed at the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Laos.
Given that North Vietnam lost more men than China did in Korea, I'm not sure where you're getting the 1.5:1 ratio.
@@michaelmccabe3079 From Wikipedia. Go argue with them if you want. You are vastly underestimating how many people died on your side. Once again, it wasn't just the Americans who were there.
The bombardment of Vietnam remains the largest bombardment in human history, more than double the bombs that were dropped during the entire WW2. And while yes, some were dropped in Laos and Cambodia, Vietnam most definitely remained the main target. Of the 7.5 million tons of bombs the Americans used during the Vietnam War, 5 million of them were dropped on Vietnam itself, mostly targeting the industries and city centers of North Vietnamese cities. Thanks to advance warning systems, casualties from these were surprisingly low mind you but still, they were bombed into oblivion.
And 500 migs which remained on the ground for the vast majority of the war because Vietnam had no experienced pilots is no modern air force. They had a great ground-air defense system sure. But still no Air Force.
@@giantWario Wikipedia is not the most reliable source, first off. Second, a 1.5 to 1 casualty rate would mean that the Free world forces suffered roughly 730,000 casualties. The South Vietnamese lost 250,000, the USA lost 50,000. So which other country lost the remaining 430,000 men?
Yes, the bomb tonnage dropped in Vietnam was higher than in WW2. Unlike in WW2, most of it was not dropped on cities, but on the Ho Chi Minh Trail, in a vain attempt to cut the trail without ground troops. Those bombs which were dropped onto North Vietnam were highly restricted (for example, not blowing up dams that would have flooded the Red River) and designed to minimize civilian losses from square 1.
The MiGs which North Vietnam had were used purely for defense because they knew they couldn't beat the Air Force over South Vietnam or Laos. But to say they remained on the ground is pure fantasy. Lots of B-52 bombers were shot down by MiGs, and the US Air Force got into plenty of dogfights over the north.
@@michaelmccabe3079 Wikipedia has been proven to be literally more reliable than any encyclopedia out there first off. If you don't trust them, go argue with their sources then which are always linked. And secondly, you're obviously using the low end of estimated casualties for your side and the high end for the North Vietnamese. Isn't that convenient?
War is too messy of a business for anyone to be certain of the number of casualties. On the lowest end, some people estimate North Vietnam and its allies' deaths at 533 000 and America and its allies death at 429 000. So mind you, even the lowest estimate I could find anywhere still gives South Vietnam at least 300 000 casualties, no idea how you think you can seriously claim they only lost 250 000. The only explanation I can think of is that you're seriously still using the propaganda numbers from the seventies even though, even at that time, the American soldiers themselves said those were obviously fake.
Once again, as I literally told you before, for every bomb dropped on the Ho Chi Min trail in Laos and Cambodia, 2 were dropped on North Vietnam itself. You can find the stats yourself, 5 million tons were dropped on North Vietnam as opposed to 2.5 million on the Ho Chi Min trail. And even with an early advance warning system, over 50 000 north Vietnamese civilians were killed by those bombings. You are so far up your own propaganda to seriously think the US did anything else than support a brutal dictator, kill a bunch of farmers with guns and civilians and then leave.
500 Migs is nothing and yes, most of them were on the ground for most of the war because the vast majority of North Vietnamese pilots literally got killed in their very first dogfight. The North Vietnamese ''air force'' got into 268 individual air battles during the entire war and 197 of their Migs were shot down. You do the math. Flying a jet plane isn't like shooting a gun or an air defense missile for crying out loud, you can't expect people who were barely trained and had probably never flown a jet plane before the war to dogfight US pilots effectively.
we categorically blame vietnam on our politicians. if you ever read about the hurdles the military had to jump through just to do their job because politicians were concerned about accidentally hitting ussr military advisors and other political bs, you'll realize just how hard we have to handicap ourselves to not win.

The western translation of Sun Tzu's art of war needs work and context, because literal translations get you in trouble for that. Gotta learn the Chinese phrases right.
That's why the translated words seem gibberish. The manual fit that time period and environment. It just takes scaling the context better to today, which isn't easy either.
10:55 *Vietnam:* "HAHAHA, We were way underequipped, and we still defeated the US"
they weren’t even underequipped…
@@Silly_Fella2222 Dude they had no airforce or tanks. More bombs were dropped by the US on Vietnam than in WW2 by all countries. Sure they had good infantry equipment but that really shouldn't have been enough to do anything.
Vietnam had to deal with the French before the US and during WW2 it's even more fun with the arrival of Imperial Japan (French still there as a puppet).
Vietnam just got its independence at the latter end of WW2 where Japan's strength was weakened and France still yet to get its crap together. Even so it was at a cost.
Then US came in support of the French soon later.
The "equipment" was just bamboo for traps or whatever left by the French and Japanese and a starving country.
@@giantWario they had modern Migs. 500 of them.. what are you talking about?
@@Silly_Fella2222 Migs are interceptors. Their only purpose is to try and destroy enemy aircraft. They give no ground support and can't bomb enemy positions. And mind you they were rarely flown in the first place because Vietnamese pilots had no experience and always got shot down extremely fast, most Migs stayed on the ground for the whole war.
Not that it would have made any difference if they were flown. I don't think you realize how little 500 aircraft is for a country at war. The US and their allies lost around 12 500 aircrafts during the war.
