    if we shave the polar bears and rub them down with sun screen then they maybe could live in the desert. plus we can hold umbrellas over them so they don't get too hot.

      LagiNaLangAko23 UAE has already invested huge amounts of money into desalination and dubai produces around 98% of their water from this method

    • @hechanova07
      @hechanova07 Před 7 lety +49

      MrFredGamer
      Yeah ok, 98% of their water is produced by this method... so the next logical step is to invest in icebergs? Why not just invest in it more, since it is said in the video that despite their efforts there are still water shortages in the region. The "98% of their water coming from desalination" is just a statistic of the COMPOSITION of their water source, it has nothing to do with the actual volume of water needed by the people of the UAE.
      Example: If a hobo ate left-over short ribs, left by Trump on the street, he'd be eating almost 100% beef, but then he'd still be hungry because the leftovers were almost nothing but bones...

    Just so you know we did have a mention of desalination in the first version of this video! We did the math and even with the multi-million-dollar price tag on the towing of an iceberg, desalination is still *more* expensive. So while desalination is known technology and this is completely crazy, this would still be cheaper. But also crazy.

The water levels rise when the tundra on top of greenland(land) melts and goes into the ocean. Stop throwing out the baseless claims, it actually hurts the scientific community.

      ExorcleGaming/Templates Explanation: the ice already floating in the saltwater is displacing roughly (not exactly) the same volume as it will add when it melts. Thus, when seaice melts it does not have a significant effect on sealevels.
      it DOES however cause a small rise of sea levels, and if all sea ice in the world melts we might have about an inch higher sea levels.

    This is how it would really go down:
    The berg they got would not live up to the hype and actually be kind of small and uninspiring.
    The towing would would fail several times in several ways before they got it going.
    The seas currents and storms wouldn't cooperate nearly dooming the mission a half dozen times.
    The berg would break free at some point and have to be recaptured, at least once.
    One of the tug boats, in the tag-team of tug boats, would fail and be helplessly dragged around by the burg before they got it back under control.
    Finally, the Iceberg would pull into port only to run aground and break into several dangerous chunks of ice.
    The chunks of ice now endangering shipping lanes of several nations, are bombed and disintegrated by the US Navy.
    The United Arab Emirates company files suit against the US for destruction of property.
    Within two years the United Arab Emirates company goes under due to legal fees, cost overruns, and not enough income made from selling ice cubes and snow-cones made from United Arab Emirates iceberg.

    This is actually a rumor. An engineer just came up with this idea that an iceberg might help cool down the UAE which also leads to formation of clouds and rain. The proposed idea was not intended to have "fresh water". Plus, if it were to be done, we would use more than a boat to tow, logically; to decrease towing days, cost, and increase lifespan of the iceberg.

  • @KimberlyRPeacock
    @KimberlyRPeacock Před 6 lety

    It's doable, and from a UEA perspective might be worth every penny, but if they are undertaking such an endeavor they need to synchronize several factors to make it worthwhile. They are essentially engaged in terraforming and building a new ecosystem. The iceberg alone does not do the trick, they need to combine it with planting, with solid dredged from the ocean bottom, and most importantly they need to first build giant desalination plant and irrigation paths to distribute the water all over different spots in the desert, then they will have to start with vegetation that is native to desert and oasis areas, and gradually expand those areas, and over a couple plant generations let them plants feed the soil and ad more water. only then bring in the iceberg makes sense as you will already have created soil and plants which can hold water, will already have distribution of water throughout the land area, what the iceberg will do for you is melt and then condense forming lake areas, forever altering and eliminating the desert. You you could turn the desert green again as at one time it was green in the past. But you do that you will change weather patterns such that maybe you alter the thermohaline conveyor, and now Europe becomes cold and dry.
