  • In this video I'm in Lanciano, an Italian town in the province of Chieti, in Abruzzo. The most important center of the Val di Sangro and a destination for pilgrimages thanks to the Sanctuary of the Eucharistic Miracle, it was the capital of the Frentani, a Roman municipality and later the district capital during the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.
The themes of this video are the parish church dedicated to the Holy Spirit and its bells. The parish church, located in the Santa Rita district in Via Bellisario, was established on 7 November 1982 and dedicated to the Holy Spirit in memory of the first rural agglomeration which was formed in 1600 around a still existing church in Villa Spirito Santo. In 1995 the parish complex was enlarged because over the years the original rural nucleus has spread like wildfire to become the largest urban agglomeration on the outskirts of Lanciano. The old church, now "Hall of culture" could hold about 400 seats.
The church, also known as Santa Rita, houses a statue of the saint together with that of the Madonna della Tenderness. Santa Rita, celebrated on May 22 (transit day), is the protector of human beings in needy states and called the "Saint of the impossible". On May 22, the parish celebrates the ritual of blessing the roses outdoors in memory of the rose garden that blossomed in the middle of winter in Roccaporena (PG) thanks to the intercession of Santa Rita. The roses are carried in procession by girls dressed in the clothes of the time (15th century).
The bell tower of the church, with a triangular plan, hosts a concert of 4 bells cast by the Pontifical Marinelli Foundry of Agnone and electrified with linear motors. In the video we see the descending Plenum performed manually on October 4, 2020 as a reminder of the festive Holy Mass. I thank my friend Matteo Silveri, to whom I dedicate the video, for letting me discover the wonderful bells of his parish.
    About the bells:
    IV - Bb4 waning
III - F4 ascending - Inscriptions: "I am the call and whisper of Saint Rita, sister and companion on your journey of faith" (100 kg)
II - Db4 waning - dedicated to Our Lady of tenderness - Inscriptions: "I am the voice of the mother of God, called to collect the tears, the anxieties, the hopes of every heart in pain" (220 kg)
I - Bb3 - Inscriptions: "I am the undulating echo of the Holy Creator spirit, whose task it is to give birth, to grow and to make it last in the sign of amazement and grace" (380 kg)
