Wowie, it's been a while. As a refreshed and recouperated Meatball, am I ready to delve into one of the hardest monotype hardcore nuzlockes I've EVER faced? Well find out as I attempt to complete a Pokemon Yellow Hardcore Nuzlocke with only BUG TYPES!

Rules of the challenge:
Normal Nuzlocke Ruleset:
1. Fainting = Death
2. Can only catch one Pokémon on each Route (Species Clause)
3. Nickname Pokémon
Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
4. No items in battle (held items okay)
5. No leveling past the next gym leader/E4 (at the START of the battle)
6. Play on "Set" battle mode

Spore stopped working on grass types starting gen 6 or 7. Spore woulda worked on erica.
Also, you could teach scyther swift to ignore abras flashes with sabrina

I think streaming the runs is a great idea, but I liked your old style of editing better. I felt like you were able to have more creative moments with editing when you didn’t have to implement stream clips. Do what works best for you, but just wanted to provide some feedback. Keep up the great work and can’t wait to watch some of your streams!
I second this. I know it’s easier to just clip your stream and upload it here with a voice over; however, if I wanted to watch your stream then I’d watch it there. Your CZcams personality is much more enjoyable than your streaming personality. I don’t have to hear you swearing and covering up every 30 seconds, etc. The vibes were much more mature and professional before.

Bug Pokémon are really lacking until gen 4. Not because of the Pokémon, I love scyther and Pinsir. But there are NO good bugs moves till gen 4.

@@TheGodIvy it's got the same accuracy as fire blast, origin pulse, and precipice blades
@@tesladrew2608 85% and 90% are both just accurate enough to be worth picking up (pre-Gen 6 Fire Blast does have a higher expected BP than Flamethrower, unlike Thunder and Blizzard), but just inaccurate enough to miss at precisely the worst possible time.
The real problem is that Megahorn comes far too late in the run to be worth it, especially with Heracross who has an actual movepool.
The "reason" you were slower than Ninetales is that it was trying to use Quick Attack while asleep. It attacks first when trying to use that, even if it stays asleep.
That makes so much more sense, good eye!
5 minutes in and I can already see a huge difference in your scripting quality. Can tell your getting better at the commentary side of things with experience.

22:20 I think Blaine may have been trying to use Quick Attack and that's why it showed Ninetales going first. I wonder if Blaine was locked into some kind of AI loop there?
Gen I AI is very rudimentary, and Blaine in fact has no AI at all--he uses the same 1d4 for move selection as wild Pokemon.

ironically getting a crit when boosted in this game is actually worse then just doing normal atk after using swords dance lol
I was sitting there wondering why you had focus energy on scyther, then you explained it. Giga brain, almost makes it a shame the crit killed anyway.
With scyzer using one sword dance and hyperbean is a better strategy. If plus six wing attack crits is like missing hyper bean since scyzer has a high crit chace so instead of using Focus energy to prevent It or risking turns with three sword dance you could use substitute
The Game Corner only accepts exchanges in increments of 50 coins in Gen 1, so those TMs are usually avoided.
At this point I am assuming you have killed the Franchiselocke. I do not blame you. Gen 7-9 are extremely difficult to complete with no repeats as you pretty much used up all of your good options and the Gen 7-9 Pokemon are complete trash. LOLZ XD
I'm surprised you have avoided cussing. If I tried to do a hardcore nuzlocke, I'd probably fail hard and cuss up a storm. I have dropped the F-bomb so many time while playing video games that I'm glad my nieces cannot hear me. :p

I think he said in a post somewhere that the franchiselocke isn’t cancelled, he’s just putting it off for a while because he’s dreading doing all four Alola games back to back, and I really can’t blame him because while I love Gen 7, the games hit you with so many tutorials and really drags on in the beginning before they really pick up.

I would love to see the franchiselocke completed one day, i love the idea.
Hot take, the modern Bug type is overlooked. While it's weak to some common types, it makes up for in Sweeping potential and entry hazards. Quiver Dance Volcarona (or if you're like me, Quiver Dance + Compound Eyes + Hurricane Vivillon), and Sticky Web Galvantula are some good examples of this.
You underestimate a lot of these bugs. Clearly you need to spend a little more time on Gen 1 Solo run CZcams. Most of these bugs can handle the league, albeit with some luck, solo and with just the stat experience that a near minimum battle run would provide, and maybe abuse of the badge boost glitch.
Still really fun to watch. I'd love to see this challenge made more hardcore. Maybe going infinite rare candy mode to remove wild encounter grinding and forcing minimum battles, to minimize your stat experience, and setting a boss -2 level cap. Also level cap for the league at the first member's level

Slash, Razor Leaf, and I think Karate Chop and Crabhammer (maybe others) were broken in gen 1, with a high Speed stat, crit chance was almost always

In gen 1 the ai chooses moves after you move, so there is no switching into a baited move, haha
2:50 RBY's display is also weird AF and yellow bar kicks in a little over 50% rather than at 50% like later on, so it's even more deceptive than you think. Y'know, just in case you wanted to rage a bit more.
8:00 Starmie will NEVER use Bubblebeam against a Grass-type, because the "advanced" AI package is set up to avoid NVE moves altogether, even if they would be the highest-damaging option. Also, you're playing Gen 1 with Bugs. Go ham on the Sleep Powder. We won't judge you.
Some of the pokemon spritexls in yellow version are pretty garish looking
I don't think Scyther was Slower than Ninetails rather Ninetails kept trying for Priority move(Quick Attack)

I liked stat experience better than EVs. It made it so every battle benefited you and you couldn't accidentally f-pika up your stats because you didn't grind out 100 encounters before continuing the game.
Ivs are definitely better than DVs though.

I did this last year, it's totally possible, Pinsir is broken as fuck for a bug. You can do it in Crystal too, without using Kanto mons. And FireRed. I'm working on Emerald with only Hoenn bugs, then so on to Gen 5, where I stop caring about Pokemon.
I love that bug types are bad in gen 1. Even the good ones are just kinda workable, not excellent

I hope input isn't unwelcome, but for future videos of streamed content I might suggest cropping out the face cam from the stream footage, or making it a bit smaller so it takes up less screen space. Not because of any strong feelings on your face but because I think the screen real estate for the game is a bit too low in this video.
We've changed how the layout looks for GB/GBC games, though there is one more video with this sort of layout that I have scheduled for next week.

Didn't you skip a late game encounter by picking Helix Fossil though? Kabuto and Kabutops ARE Bug/Rock Pokémon.
Mediocre move, I always used buterfree for brock in yellow...Though admittedly, not as a nuzlocke :D

I don't think Ninetails was faster. I think the sleep was given priority from the quick attack the turn it fell asleep. That Ninetails is slower than Blaine's Rapidash, so it's the only way your Scyther, especially with stat experience, should ever be slower than Ninetails. Your base speed is way above a Ninetails, I'd think even 0 dv should still have you be faster

Since he's playing in release order, that's all four Alola titles--infamous for extremely long unskippable cutscenes--back-to-back-to-back-to-back. These are also the most difficult main-series titles of the 3D era (especially USUM), so that's even more time spent in prep.
