I have a 2002 3 door 1.8 Petrol Rav 4 NV with only 67,000, miles on it, it drives like new, I get 40-45 mpg and I love it.
Not sure what happened to Hammonds car, it started as a 3 door then changed into a five door-why? I don`t know, the 3-door doesn`t have much of a boot, but you can fold the seats down if you need to. I bought mine a year ago, one owner from new 61K on it, full-service history, the rear seats still have the original factory plastic on them and have never been sat on. Looks good and fun to drive.
These RAV4 4.2's still hold there value well even in 2018. I have checked prices for them here in Germany and they still sale for 4500EU all the way up to 8000EU. Even out pricing the later 4.3 versions. That full time 4wd in the older RAV's is hard to beat.
Holds alot better than in America my 99 RAV4 as well in tip top condition highest is only $2000-$3000
Obscenely reliable car. It was my first car (reg 1999) and I didn't look after it well really. I just didn't have to. It would never fail to start at -20C even from the remote start. I abused the engine, the gear as I was learning to drive. And it still runs perfectly after 18 years! Sold it in 2015 and upgraded to a RAV4 Sol Auto reg 2010. Will never trade it for any other model.

I love my 99 still have it a nice silver color. Just replaced the seatbelts and regreased it added new tires and performance parts I love it and will continue to

I think the 2 door one is a newer version that he's comparing the old one to. Not all that clear though.
needs more TRAINS - both are from same generation.
They are, but the two versions might have been released at different times. Not sure what the model year history on the Rav4 is like in the UK.

They are a great car very responsive when using the stick shift and steering the wheel and when u take the two back seats out u essentially have a van.
Hope you are able to achive your dream. Im actually gonna own one pretty soon. Its black, has a 4 speed automatic, but comes with the rather weak 2.0 4banger. Im really excited tho expecially since hardly anyone owns the 2nd gen so ill be one of those guy where they see the vehicle n their like whoa thats a rav 4 I wander what year it is. Shes a good looker and they dont make em like they used to.
@Macho khan yikes I couldn't help u with that one. Bcs not very many cars or SUVs in America are offered in Diesel. Since you said petrol I'd assume your talking about the European market so I have no clue. The only diesel car that's modern or old are those Volkswagen Jetta's and Passats or whatever those things are called. Other then that around USA idk
Hammond was funny before Top Gear - in fact, his brand of humor by himself is almost refreshing compared to Clarkson's endless ranting.
