Welcome to UP-SIDEDOWNDIFFERENT Based on the Dickens classic, this 1910 version tells the story of the miserly Scrooge and the three Christmas ghosts in silent
interesting to think this was made just 67 years after Dickens wrote the original story. The people who made and acted in this were considerably closer to the time of Dickens and Scrooge, than we are to their time. It's likely that some of the older members of the audience who watched this back in 1910 could actually remember the 1840s first-hand.
I have been collecting versions of A Christmas Carol for years and thought by now I had them all. I'm SO excited to find and collect this!! I can't thank you enough!!! 🎉
Please send a petition to Jacqueline Stewart at TCM (Turner Classic Movies) to include this rare classic in the Silent Sunday Night lineup for next Christmas?!
Thank you for sharing this classic gem with us. It's fantastic!! How acting has deteriorated since those wonderful pioneer days of film. This truly is a treasure & a real treat!!!
Charles Ogle plays Cratchit here. Ogle was famous for one of the first portrayals of Frankenstein's Monster on film during the same year as this production.
This 1910 silent is very good. 1930s Seymour Hicks is the first good full version.1938s Reginald Owen version really good for younger people. Alister Sim version is the perfect Scrooge. After that numerous versions are seriously lacking
@@peterthayer6238 come on now. Geoge c scott was terrific and so was patrick stewart. You must enjoy older versions more whixh is fine but these two i mentioned are very good
I took a class in high school back in the 70’s in the art and history of silent film. The actors had to be very expressive in the facial expressions and body language. And then there was the music which was live performances.
Ebenezer Scrooge is 5 of Spades ♠️♠️♠️♠️♠️ and his Birthday 🎂 is February 7 1786 and the Ghost 👻 of the future looks like the SPECTRE from DC and Merry Christmas 🎄🎁⛄🎅🤶🕊️♾️✝️☮️ Blessings and Hugs 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Seems to lack the dialog cards that most silent films had... guess they depended on everyone being familiar with it to the point they didn't need them much.

Amazing that this era of clothes and apoken language were as close to authentic as possible. This has a charm to it..
113 Year old piece of history. Thankfully not lost in the passing of time.
È bellissimo, non sapevo di questa versione così antica e molto preziosa!!! Grazie!

The acting is amazing. With only occasional subtitles, we can easily follow the story. Thank you for finding and sharing this.

. Scott and later versions don't capture Scrooge or the story. Animated versions are what they are. And musical versions don't match up at all.

Actor Charles Ogle is probably best known for portraying the silver screen's first Frankenstein's Monster.

Merry Christmas to you and thank you 😊
They did so much with so little.
That they did
as Norma Desmond said, " We had faces then; we didn't need sound."
@@cherrylee1103 They could do more with expressions and body language than they can do today with dialogue. The ghosts were ghostly without CGI too.
Remarkable!!
Thank you for the film. 😊❤

I never knew about this version. Very interesting to see.
Wow! Thank you!
