Nicely done. The Blood Angels scheme is oddly monotone (being red, red and more red) but it works well anyway. I suppose that's why they have unusual helmet colors (such as blue on Devastators)
yeah red is a very vibrant colour and easily over powers things. you can change it up with different highlights but definitely throwing in some other colours to break it up really helps
I think that’s why I liked painting the sanguinary guard and death company a lot. I love the Color scheme for blood angels a lot but DC and SG served as a nice little break from the usual bucketloads or red.
Just getting back into painting after a looooong absence. I really like this guide and think I'm going to give it a try.
Awsome. Welcome back to the hobby. Go check out my painting your first miniature. I talk a lot about techniques and the ideas behind painting. It should help you understand what I’m talking about ha
I have seen a lot of painting tutorials and this is my favorite! The style and presentation is detailed yet quick and easy to follow. Thanks!
Thank you for the kind words. They’re very encouraging. My goal is to create the best tutorials I can that are useable and useful for everyone
Perfect, these are the colour I remember them being in the 90's. I'm painting my first model since then currently, but will be starting a BA army to game with 😊
Brilliant, I hope your getting on well with it. I always feel everyone does blood angels too dark as well
@@TableTopReadyCZcams I've just bought my red paints today! Going to go for a golden aquilla too. BA were my first love from the Angels of Death Codex I had as a kid. You've brought me back home 🩸 Thanks again 😇
As always a marvelous tutorial with one of the most magnificient and clear instructions and video edditing. I dont play marines, but thank you :D
thank you for the very kind words, it's always apreciated
Dope! Quick, informative & to the point video … thank you. ✊🏼
Thanks for the nice comment
You are spot on with the brighter red - that's how the 'eavy metal do it too!
It always confused me why people stopped at Mephiston red, maybe it’s the name ha
Fantastic going to try this my self using Ur tutorial. Keep u the good work.
I'll do my best. I hope it helps :D
Cheers man, you helped me get a 500 point Crusade Force get ready in 6 hours with this painting guide. Thanks a ton!
Wow, 6 hours? 😲 that’s impressive, glad I could help
Can I say thank you so much. I could not understand why I didn't like my painting of my BA and using evil sunz scarlet just made them pop! Amazing. Got a subscription from me.
your very welcome, I don't understand why people don't go this bright ha. sometimes the names of the paints can be misleading. Evilsunz is a much closer match to the old blood angels red as well. I'm all for brighter
Awesome work as always 👍🏼🔥
thank you very much :D
Awesome video as always thanks. I did my blood angels with a dark grey base coat that definitely another way of doing them different.
thank you. you can pretty much use any undercoat to be honest, I guess I just went for the one people would expect to be used ha
Been following this for about a year now, just wanted to say thanks for the work mate it’s great!
Thank you :D glad you enjoy my content
The legend is back with another yet amazing tutorial. Thank you for putting this out ! You certainly deserve a million subs at this point with the great content you’ve been putting out 👊🏼
oh shucks, thank you. I really want to try and get more content out consistently now
What a good tutorial!!
Thank you very much 😃
This is great! Thank you now I can increase my blood angel army to defend the imperium. 🩸
For the Emperor
Wow man you do an excellent job with red. New to warhammer and can’t decide between Blood Angels and Black Templars. I believe you just helped a practice run for future models.
wicked, check out my Bloody Rose tutorial, that has a more up to date red armour scheme I would probably use
Great tutorial, this looks really good. The layer of evil sunz scarlet is a great tip - you've got a really nice vibrant red. When I've tried Blood Angels in the past I've always wondered why my red looks quite dark compared to the box art!
I never understood why people just stop at Mephiston red, maybe it’s the name ha glad I could I could show you a different way
As always, excellent. Would like to see some Dark Angels
dark angels are coming sooner than you think :) I have a couple of other videos to do first though
Good stuff Michael!
thank you very much :D gad you like it
Amazing video, I can’t wait for the dark angels video
thank you, I'm looking forward to it as well when I can get to it :D
Hello! awesome videos! I love how you explain the paint process very clear and proffesional ! please Upload one painting Space Marine Imperial Fists!!!! Thanks!
thank you very much. I plan on eventually getting all the major chapters done in videos. Imperial fists are my chapter so expect it sooner than later :)
Would love a short or a video about how you do the shoulders. Specially the flat surface with the shade and the highlight inside the brim! Keep up the good work!
Honestly the best thing I can suggest is to go on the games workshop website and look at all the turn arounds and images of miniatures you want to paint. You can see where all the highlights are painted 😁 otherwise they’re the same highlights as anywhere else on the miniature 👌🏻
@@TableTopReadyCZcams Thanks for the reply. I found you showing your technique for the shoulders in the "How To Paint Imperial Fists Space Marines". Keep up the good work, you are an inspiration.
Loving your tutorial’s I’ve just got back into painting war hammer and I’m finding these videos a great help and inspiration thanks and keep them coming I would love to see death guards
Thank you so much. It always makes me happy knowing I’m able to help people with their own hobby. I’ve actually recently done a death guard tutorial. Go check it out 😁
I dont even have blood angels, yet here i am, watching Michael tutorial on how to paint BA.
You could have blood angels. Now you know how to paint them ha
I'll definitely be keeping a brush separate for highlighting for now on
it does help. we can't expect to to do everything with 1 brush. That brush will quickly stop being very good and not usable for anything
Hey TableTopReady, i'm just getting back into the hobby and want to pick up the Blood Angels, looking forward to using this video along with your assembly, undercoat and transfer videos. I do have a question though, are there any issues when it comes to glueing the sub-assemblies together after painting? I notice the model in the video has paint over it's left arm stump and worry it may not glue properly.
Welcome back to the hobby 😁 if your using super glue then it’s not an issue, but if your using poly cement then I would scrape away some of the paint first for a better bond.
Excellent video, thanks! What do you use to stick the gun/arms to the pin though?
in this tutorial I used super glue to attach to parts to the pins but i do things differently now. I would watch my recent getting your minaitures ready for painting video, i talk about sub assemblies and how to do them :)
What color would you recommend as a highlight for a complete orange armor? specifically Troll Slayer Orange
I would have a look at either lugganath orange or bestor flesh
Thanks for another great tutorial!! I was wondering, once you have painted the different parts, when you assemble them, do you use superglue? I suspect you cannot use plastic cement over painted plastic, is that correct?
you're right, it's better to use super glue to attach any painted parts. Plastic glue will ruin the paint :)
Only have built a guard army. So for space marines would I use the space marine codex for the general units of SM and use the blood angel data sheets for specific blood angel units? I see in the SP datasheet there's intercessor squad so I assume that would be used for any SP chapter but you just gotta paint them in the chapter you're building. Right??
Most space marine units are generic units for all chapters. Some chapters do have their own dedicated units though, but they’re pretty obvious which ones. I would wait for the new edition to come out in a couple of months as things are changing as to how you choose your units. All rules and datesheets will be free on release day I believe
thank you for motivating me!!! any chances for contrast paint tutorials??
I've been interested in doing a contrast tutorial for some time, so don't be surprised if you see one in the future
Do you think that paint work with saim hann eldars? Thanks for your awesome job!
Yes, absolutely 👌🏻
What do you use for your sub assembly like it looks like you're using wood with a paper clip also how do you add them on after you put on all your paint? Wouldn't that mess up the paint if glue gets somewhere it's not suppose to be? I want to try sub assembly but for the holsters and belt pouches, relic, ribbon/medal things etc... sorry im very new and it would help a lot
I have a video on the channel called getting your miniatures ready for painting that shows what I do :)
@TableTopReadyCZcams I just saw it! Thank you so much! Hey so you ever have problems with army painter paint? My first space marine ever was looking good but I used army painter paints for the high lights and the consistency is just really off and I don't like how it looks anymore
Honestly I’m not a fan of army painter. If I were to use an alternative to Citadel, it would be Vallejo. But personally you can’t beat citadel for quality and variety
Bro, nice.
Thank you :)
Any thoughts about word bearers' armor?
I'm probably going to cover word bearers in a future video, so if you can wait, I'm sure it will be worth it :)
Thx very much for the help! Just one question:
Did you paint 2 layers of evil sunz scarlet or just one, so that the Mephisto red can kinda shine thru?
With your help I painted my first 2 ultramarines and necron warrior and now I'm starting my blood angles army^^ glad you did this tutorial as well!
Already ordered all the colors I need, now I'm super hyped to get started :))
Greetings
O it’s always exciting when starting a new project. I’ve just started an firstborn imperial fists army 😁 I made sure to paint a solid colour for the evil sunz. A good base coat usually takes about 3 coats. If you wanted something a bit darker, you could do an equal mix of evil sunz and Mephiston red, I’m pretty sure eavy metal do a mix. Glad my videos have been helping you out 😃. Make sure to practice and try out different schemes in the spare bits until you know that’s how you want to paint them.
@@TableTopReadyCZcams thank you! That was a great suggestion to just do a mix of mephiston red and evil sunz!
Just painted one marine with mephiston, one with evil sunz and one with a mix
The one with the mix I like the most, so I think I will go for that on my army, with highlights like you shown^^
I'm sure your imperial fists will look amazing as all of your stuff!
When you finished your whole army, I myself will probably only got one combat patrol box of my army painted, as im slow as fck xD
But anyway thanks for responding and all that great helpfull content! :)
Cheers!
so i'm relatively new at Warhammer and i just across this video as i want to invest in blood angles. Do you already have a video where you show how to paint the Priamris Librarian (Preferably with the helmet?)
I don’t have a tutorial for a librarian yet but it is in my list to get done, maybe before the end of the year depending 😃
@@TableTopReadyCZcams That's great! I'm honestly just really stoked for this! And hey! Maybe even give a shot with the Baal Predator Tank if you haven't already
Very good im play blood angels and these look very good but next time you might want to use gal vorbak has a base coat and then put the evil sunz scarlet over that
thank you. I'll certainly give that a try next time :) I forget about some of the newer colours sometimes
Can you do tyranids with carapace highlighting??
I do have a tyranid tutorial planned coming very soon
Great Tutorial ! What brush do you use to pinwash with ? :)
I like to use the citadel glaze brush when I doing the recess shade 😁
@@TableTopReadyCZcams I thought it was ! I always think about using my one because the tip always stays really pointy 😅 ill give it a go, thanks !
Would it not be considerably quicker to just spray them AP Pure Red and save a whole stage of painting them red after a red undercoat?
That may be quicker, I’ve not used that spray. I do stick to using citadel products in my tutorials but if people have there own way of painting blood angels then go for it. I just show how I paint them.
Do you think you could paint up a Dreadnought using these colours you’ve used for blood angels?
I'm in the middle of painting the Ballistus Dreadnought from Levaithan. I am painting it as Ultramairnes but if you combine that with this tutorial then you have your guide to painting a blood angels dreadnough :D
Death company next?
I’ve already got my next few videos planned, so probably no any time soon if I do
@@TableTopReadyCZcams No Problem
assault and heavy troops helmets are painted differently. does anybody know how it is with dark angels :)? what colour are their troops helmets painted if they are`?
Dark angels all have the same coloured helmets. their elites are called death wing, and they tend to have white or bone coloured armour, their fast support company is called the raven wing and you'll see them all painted black.
@@TableTopReadyCZcams yeah but if i paint a captain i can just give hin red helmet
Of course you can. You can paint your miniatures how ever you want. No one knows how things looked every day or every battle 🤷🏼♂️ you create your narrative 💪🏻
Could u do a Salamander or Dark Angel next
You’ll like my next tutorial 😉
If you were painting Blood Ravens, would you use similar steps just making the red darker?
All the steps would be the same. Just go darker as you say. See what colours other people are using maybe
Can you give us a hint on your next tutorial?
You don’t need a hint, I’m uploading it right now 😛 you’ll see it very shortly
😊
:D
Newb Question here…. When you start this video the model is already red. Is that just a first layer of red that you did of the same paint color or is it something else?
I spray undercoated the miniature with Mephiston red first and then I painted with evil sunz scarlet
@@TableTopReadyCZcams got it. Does undercoat = primer in this case?
Yes an undercoat does the same job as a primer. 😃
Fuckin badass 👍
Cheers 💪🏻
Not my personal choice of red and the highlights dont really do it for me but non the less a beautiful model.
I'm likely to update this tutorial later this year :D
@@TableTopReadyCZcams im saying this while having committed the unspoken sin of painting 40k. Thinning your paints TOO MUCH!!!
Games workshop are still looking
I'm starting to think your trying to recruit me yourself haha
@@TableTopReadyCZcams HAHA
Ur so good tho so u deserve it
Could you please do Genestealers next because there really is not a good tutorial on youtube
I would love to do some cult tutorials, not sure when though
Have you ever thought about painting orks? comment for algorithm
haha I think you'll like my next video I've got planned
I feel like such an idiot, no wonder my basecoats take forever, your base brush is like 20x bigger lol
Haha you using a small layer? Using the larger brush is actually better as it spreads the pigment out more evenly, less chance of those brush marks 😃
@@TableTopReadyCZcams Thanks for the tips, and also thank you for your getting started series.
I got the paint intercessors kit because of it. Building and painting those with lore on in the background got me hooked into the hobby by the time I was done. You helped me find a really accessible entry point that didn't break the bank.
I’m glad. That’s why I wanted to do this video. 😁 good luck
I've been away from tabletop gaming for twenty years. Painting yellow over red, or anything over black would have been impossible back in the day. GW paints, and maybe most other paints, did not have that kind of saturation.
The current range of citadel products really makes painting so much easier to achieve some amazing looking miniatures. That’s why I think everyone is capable of painting and that’s why I make these tutorials
Is that a Scottish accent?
Haha no, I’m English
