  • What's the best kit for retrieving and recovering a man overboard? With Force 7 winds, sheeting rain and a swift-running tide to lend authenticity, Yachting Monthy's Chris Beeson tested a range of pushpit-mounted products to find the answer.

That was really informative. Thank you, and a special thanks goes to the guy in the water!

Now imagine high swell, a boat dancing over a rough sea and a MOB being already exhausted and having no stamina left to help in any way.

For rough weather and non-cooperating MOB, from this video I see the lifting sail as best suited, you guide or pull the MOB to the sail using a boat hook and start lifting. Uncomfortable bc it keeps turning the MOB around but is quite safely keep it at the boat.

Very instructive. I think that most systems cannot be used if the person in the water is cold and stiff. The Pick-Up sail is a good idea perhaps. But in that case its possible to use a sail like a trysail that you have on board'already. My tipp: do not get in the water!

Id rather watch this in a situation where you need direction. You didn't show how to work the rigging so basically you showed us the harder way to pull someone out the water. Are you pretending your in freezing waters?
