I actually dig your calm cool non performative tone. It helps convey your words as well thought out. Your message always has structure and never comes off as an emotional reaction. Whoever would tell you to hire someone else to speak for you are, themselves, without direction.

Also, people complaining about your voice is just bonkers to me. Your cadence and line delivery are probably the main appeal for me, other than the writing of course. Your channel is one of the first I started following, and probably what got me into video essays in the first place.

The visuals you gave of Whitney Houston being catapulted into the atmosphere really put the feeling into words so brilliantly! Didn't consciously realize how much that drum emotionally affected the song until you pointed it out.

You spin quite the yarn for those of us watching this in an old hotel room - and listening too, by the by. Especially with the wailing killdeer right outside the window, out in the darkness. The experience of it all is very atmospheric, care of your deliberately-worded script suited just so for that distinctive voice - in this case, almost eerily calm, like we've been placed inside the game as you slipped out, and you drive the tone (and us) through a hell of a ride. (If you'll pardon the pun, or is it?) It feels like controlled chaos, as your voice soothes as we descend deeper into the fray, with reassurance from your asides only because our guide sounds calm. Bored? Not in the least! Altogether, you've set quite the tone masterfully, and I wouldn't have it any other way - nor with any other voice to guide us, thank _you_ very much! ...I say that with sincerity, which is hard to convey without my voice, but even with it. I'd say "that's our world," but it's not anymore. Not blindly futuristic, not retro, not whatever things used to be. Controlled chaos, as I call it, but I like _1080p_ so I'll have to check out those tracks and drive on. Cheers.

I really appreciate the audio mixing on your videos. A professor might instruct you to make VO nearly as loud as media, but they would be wrong. The ducking out of a full stereo signal into quieter VO draws the audience’s attention down to your words, and contributes to the tone.
I always thought you were just speaking softly. Frankly I find your tone soothing, it makes it easy to keep listening.

I do have to say, whomever made the comments about your voice and narrative style certainly have opinions quite different than mine. I love your narration, it manages to be soothing and calming, but also not put me into a coma. That means I can listen to you for ages while still being attentive without starting to zone out which is an extremely rare gift, in my experience.

and the point about "outdated" games is something I thought about alot, but it's not only graphics, there is like control styles and all that that is considered outdated as if it was just technology
but ppl do talk like this, albeit to lesser extent, about other forms of art as well - I have seen "medieval european art did not invent perspecitve yet", and oh boy, the films, especially the CGI effects but other things too

Just starting the video but I've done maybe the first 4 or so chapters and this game makes me smile. I streamed it for a friend and the "There was a fuckin' werewolf in the bathroom " interlude was just so perfect. I don't have experience with any of the influences on the game, but it's high on my ever growing need to finish list. I know the lead dev behind it is really active on Twitter, and he's a real character.
